Dusklight for PlayStation 5 v0.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@griches griches released this 11 Oct 20:27

PlayStation button symbols on the game's prompts. Built from upstream Dusklight revision 34a144a493, as v0.1.1 was.

Added

  • DualSense symbols on the button prompts. Cross for A, Circle for B, Square for X, Triangle for Y and R1 for Z, on the file select and in play. The A button is blue instead of GameCube green; Circle stays red.
  • The symbols are from Kenney's Input Prompts (CC0).

Limits

  • The symbols follow the default button mapping. Remap the buttons and they no longer match.
  • L, R, Start, the D-pad and the stick pictures are unchanged, and button pictures inside dialogue text are still the GameCube's.
  • Square and Triangle are white on the game's grey shapes.
  • Turning texture replacements off in the settings turns the symbols off (the A button stays blue). A texture replacement of your own for the same texture wins.
  • The symbols are named for the GameCube USA disc's textures; other discs have not been tried.

Install or update

  1. Unpack Dusklight-PS5-v0.2.0.zip. It holds one folder, PPSA99305.
  2. Copy that folder to the console as /data/homebrew/PPSA99305/, over the old one if you have an earlier version. Your disc image, saves and settings in that folder are left alone.
  3. New install only: copy your own GameCube disc image (.iso or .ciso) into the same folder.
  4. Start "Dusklight" from the home screen.

No game data is in this download. The README has the details.

Not verified

The symbols were seen on one console in play (the HUD); the blue A button was also seen on the file select with an earlier drawing of the symbols. The released build differs from the one looked at only in its version number. Pause and collection screens, sound, the full controller mapping and long sessions remain unconfirmed.

Dusklight for PlayStation 5 v0.1.1

@griches griches released this 11 Oct 06:50

A small release that tidies the menus. Built from upstream Dusklight revision 34a144a493, as v0.1.0 was.

Changed

  • No more "Failed to check for updates" on the menu. This build has no network code, so it no longer tries.
  • The Mods menu says "Online mod updates are unavailable" instead of waiting for ever on "Waiting for mods to initialize".
  • The game's full log now reaches the console's klog, not only its errors.

Mods

  • An asset-only .dusk (textures, files that replace the disc's) put in /data/homebrew/PPSA99305/mods/ is listed, and can be switched on in the Mods menu.
  • Code mods do not work. That includes everything in Dusklight's own mods/ folder (the randomizer, cosmetics, the Luau runtime and the demos), so none is bundled, and a mod that needs the Luau runtime does not run.
  • Online mods cannot be browsed.

"Disc not verified"

Expected, and harmless. The disc image is found by where it is, not chosen, so it is never hashed; and a .ciso leaves out the disc's filler data, so its hash could not match the original's anyway.

Install or update

  1. Unpack Dusklight-PS5-v0.1.1.zip. It holds one folder, PPSA99305.
  2. Copy that folder to the console as /data/homebrew/PPSA99305/, over the old one if you have v0.1.0. Your disc image, saves and settings in that folder are left alone.
  3. New install only: copy your own GameCube disc image (.iso or .ciso) into the same folder.
  4. Start "Dusklight" from the home screen.

No game data is in this download. The README has the details.

Not verified

This build was deployed to one console and booted to the game; the changed menu texts have not been looked at on a TV. Sound, the full controller mapping and long sessions remain unconfirmed, as in v0.1.0.

Dusklight for PlayStation 5 v0.1.0

@griches griches released this 10 Oct 23:36

The first release of Dusklight for PlayStation 5: an unofficial homebrew port of Dusklight, built from upstream revision 34a144a493.

You need a PS5 that runs homebrew, ShadowMountPlus, an FTP server on the console, and your own GameCube disc image of the game as .iso or .ciso. No game data is in this download.

Install

  1. Unpack Dusklight-PS5-v0.1.0.zip. It holds one folder, PPSA99305.
  2. Copy that folder to the console as /data/homebrew/PPSA99305/.
  3. Copy your disc image into the same folder (any name ending in .iso or .ciso).
  4. Start "Dusklight" from the home screen.

Saves and settings go in /data/homebrew/PPSA99305/userdata/. The README has the details.

What has been seen working

On one console, with the GameCube USA disc:

  • boots into the game from a .ciso image in the title's folder
  • 3840x2160 at 59.94 Hz, sessions of several minutes with no crash
  • a DualSense plays the game
  • a memory card file is created, and a save survived closing and restarting the title

Not verified yet

  • Sound. The audio driver opens; nobody has confirmed how it sounds.
  • Each button of the controller mapping, rumble, a second controller.
  • The menus' pictures in this build (logo, emblem, pre-launch background) are new, drawn for this port in place of Dusklight's own. The game booted and ran with them; they have not been looked at on a TV.
  • Long sessions, later areas of the game, 120 Hz.

Known limits

  • Objects can appear a frame late the first time a scene shows them, while their shaders compile. They are cached afterwards.
  • GameCube .iso and .ciso images only: no RVZ, GCZ, WIA or WBFS, and no Wii discs.
  • No code mods, updater, Discord presence or network.
