First Draft 0.13.0
Scenes and source-linked continuity
- Open Scenes in the palette or Open scene workspace with Cmd/Ctrl+P.
Navigate ordered project parts, search headings/synopses and filter by part,
character, location or time. Cards show approximate page positions. - Create scenes, edit portable Fountain
= Synopsislines and rearrange complete
scene blocks. Single-file changes use editor transactions and normal Undo. - Confirmed cross-part moves save a local recovery copy before writing.
Restore last move refuses to overwrite later writing. Save both notes first;
cross-file writes are not atomic and are not a single editor-undo action. - Inspect continuity offers read-only character identity/link checks and
optional dossier, empty-scene and missing-time advice. Evidence opens original
sources; stale evidence requires Refresh. Incomplete coverage is explicit. - Patched the development-only Moment dependency to 2.31.0.
- Updated the feature tour with desktop scene and inspector screenshots.
All processing stays local. No network requests, clipboard access or whole-vault
enumeration are introduced. Requires Obsidian 1.13.7 or later.
Boundaries and validation
The inspector does not assess story logic, chronology, props or inferred character
presence. Scripts with sections, dual dialogue, boneyards, multiline notes or
fenced code remain navigable, but scene mutations are disabled to protect source
boundaries. Cross-part recovery requires ordinary non-hidden note paths.
Validation includes 194 automated tests, build/lint/format/licence checks and
isolated Obsidian desktop tests of native Edit → Undo, cross-part move/restore,
later-edit conflict refusal and stale-dialog rejection. Automated checks are not
physical-device proof. Narrow-sidebar acceptance and physical iPhone layout,
undo, memory/performance and PDF sharing remain unverified. The offline font
bundle is approximately 33 MB. Mobile compatibility is retained, not certified.
The dependency audit reports zero vulnerabilities. GitHub confirms Dependabot
alert #1 as fixed on 2026-10-04; the development dependency override remains
until upstream tooling resolves a patched copy.
Only main.js, manifest.json and styles.css are published as release assets,
with GitHub build-provenance attestations.

More faithful, multilingual screenplay PDFs
- Optional title pages: use a leading Fountain title block, or
title,credit,
author,source,draft-dateandcontactproperties on a screenplay or
project note. No explicit title means no added cover. The cover is unnumbered;
screenplay page numbering starts at 1. - Continued dialogue: page breaks generate
(MORE)and repeat the speaker with
(CONT'D), preserving extensions. Short speeches move together where possible.
Parentheticals stay with dialogue. Generated markers never change your source. - Offline Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Japanese and Korean PDF support.
Choose Settings → First Draft → PDF language for regional Han forms.
English-only scripts are unaffected by this choice. - Broader Latin, Greek and Cyrillic font coverage. Unsupported characters stop
export with a clear diagnostic rather than silently becoming question marks. - Easier screenplay activation from the palette and command menu.
All PDF generation stays local. Existing files are never overwritten. Requires
Obsidian 1.13.7 or later and retains mobile compatibility.
Boundaries and validation
The plugin bundle is about 33 MB because fonts are included offline; exported
PDFs embed only used glyphs. Physical iPhone memory/performance validation is
still outstanding. CJK preview line breaks/page counts are approximate—review
the exported PDF. Emoji, universal Unicode, vertical text, ruby, dual dialogue,
locked production pages and exact Final Draft pagination are not promised.
Oversized title metadata or parentheticals fail safely instead of clipping.
Validation includes automated metadata/pagination/export tests, rendered
Letter/A4 Latin/CJK samples and isolated desktop Obsidian preview/export checks.
Earlier offline mobile-WebKit tests cover CJK export, not physical-phone proof.
Only main.js, manifest.json and styles.css are published as release assets,
with GitHub build-provenance attestations.
First Draft 0.11.0
First Draft 0.11.0
First Draft 0.11 adds the first end-to-end reading workflow: preview a
standalone or multi-file screenplay as pages, then export the same layout to a
local PDF without leaving Obsidian.
Highlights
- Preview six core screenplay elements with Courier typography, screenplay
margins, deterministic wrapping, page breaks, and page numbers. - Export non-destructive PDFs in the configured US Letter or A4 size. Existing
files are never overwritten. - Combine explicitly ordered project parts into one preview and PDF.
- Remove broad vault enumeration from project and character discovery.
- Remove plugin clipboard access; cheat-sheet examples remain selectable for
the normal copy shortcut. - Add a visual feature tour, desktop screenshots, and a short demo.
The source Fountain or Markdown remains authoritative. Preview and PDF export
run locally without accounts, telemetry, or network requests.
PDF output is intended for reading and review, not locked studio production
pagination. See the repository's PDF and FDX compatibility documents for the
exact supported boundaries.
Requires Obsidian 1.13.7 or later. Desktop verification is complete; the
documented physical-device mobile checklist remains the final mobile acceptance
step.
First Draft 0.10.2
First Draft 0.10.2
This maintenance release keeps the writing experience unchanged while making
the contextual First Draft Palette easier to maintain and extend safely.
Improvements
- The palette now separates character dossiers, screenplay projects, writing
actions, and recent items into focused internal modules. - Asynchronous palette updates still discard stale results when the active note
changes. - GitHub Actions and compatible development dependencies are updated.
- The project now builds with TypeScript 6 and its current compiler guidance.
Compatibility
- Requires Obsidian 1.13.7 or later.
- Desktop and mobile remain supported.
- The release contains only
main.js,manifest.json, andstyles.css, with
GitHub build-provenance attestations for all three.
First Draft 0.10.1
First Draft 0.10.1
This scanner-compliance release keeps the first public feature set intact while
aligning the plugin and its release assets with current Obsidian guidance.
Improvements
- First Draft no longer detaches its sidebar palette during unload, preserving
the location chosen by the user. - Timers work correctly in Obsidian popout windows.
- Command names no longer repeat the plugin name.
- Settings use Obsidian's searchable declarative settings API.
- Deprecated slider tooltip calls and unnecessary type assertions are removed.
- Export collision checks inspect only candidate paths instead of enumerating
all vault files. - The release contains only
main.js,manifest.json, andstyles.css, and
GitHub publishes build-provenance attestations for all three.
Privacy notes
Project and character discovery examines Markdown paths and cached frontmatter
across the vault. Screenplay contents are read only for the active screenplay
and its explicitly linked project parts. The cheat sheet writes to the clipboard
only when Copy is pressed and never reads clipboard contents.
Compatibility
- Requires Obsidian 1.13.7 or later.
- Desktop and mobile remain supported.
First Draft 0.10.0
First Draft 0.10.0
First Draft's first public release makes Obsidian a focused screenplay-writing
environment while keeping the screenplay itself as portable Fountain text.
Highlights
- Write in
.fountainfiles or opt Markdown notes into screenplay mode. - Use screenplay-aware completion and keyboard-first commands for scenes,
characters, extensions, parentheticals, and transitions. - Keep a screenplay in one file or organise ordered parts across vault folders.
- See project-wide statistics, character checks, recent elements, and exports.
- Maintain portable Markdown character dossiers with relationships and derived
screenplay appearances. - Export non-destructively to Fountain or the supported Final Draft FDX subset.
- Reach common and recent actions from the dockable First Draft Palette.
- Create a safe example project from one command and consult an offline,
copy-friendly screenplay and Fountain cheat sheet. - Read ordered project parts one per line in both project properties and the
First Draft Palette.
First Draft is local-only: it has no telemetry, accounts, cloud dependency, or
network access during ordinary use.
Compatibility
- Obsidian 1.13.7 or later.
- Desktop and mobile are declared as supported.
- FDX export covers scene headings, action, characters, parentheticals,
dialogue, and transitions. Seedocs/FDX_COMPATIBILITY.mdfor details.
Installation
The release provides the three files required by Obsidian: main.js,
manifest.json, and styles.css. A convenience ZIP and SHA-256 checksums are
also attached.
