@hackyday hackyday released this 06 Oct 17:33

First release of the FLIP fluid simulation for the Makeblock Codey Rocky 16x8 LED matrix, driven by the IMU.

Flash the prebuilt binaries

Option A — single merged binary, with esptool over USB:

esptool --chip esp32 --baud 921600 write_flash 0x0 merged-firmware-4MB.bin

Option B — PlatformIO (recommended, lets you tweak and rebuild):

  1. Install VS Code + the PlatformIO extension
  2. Clone this repository and open the folder
  3. Plug the Codey Rocky in via USB and click Upload

If upload fails: hold button C, tap the power button, then Upload again (GPIO0 / button C is the ESP32 boot strap).

Controls

Action Effect
Tilt water flows to the low side, sloshes and pools there
Shake / jerk the water churns and splashes on its own
Knob faucet — new water pours in from the bottom edge
Button A splash burst (adds particles)
Button B drain some water
Hold A at boot hardware test mode: every button & sensor (matrix, buttons, RGB LED, knob, light, sound, battery/HW version, IMU, speaker, IR, Rocky base)

Assets

  • merged-firmware-4MB.bin — single flashable image at offset 0x0 (bootloader + partitions + firmware)
  • bootloader.bin 0x1000, partitions.bin 0x8000, boot_app0.bin 0xe000, firmware.bin 0x10000 — separate images for esptool
  • firmware.elf — debug symbols (e.g. for exception backtraces)
