The Surveyor 1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@hamanakam1 hamanakam1 released this 22 Oct 07:09

The scaffold becomes software.

The Surveyor observes a macOS or Linux box, compiles what it finds into an
Open Edge Topology plat, diffs that plat against the last one, and writes
down what actually changed — read-only, local-first, and verifiable.

Install

git clone https://github.com/hamanakam1/the-surveyor
cd the-surveyor
python3 -m pip install -e .
surveyor scan --ascii

Python 3.11+. Zero runtime dependencies. No root.

What 1.0 includes

  • Four scanners — power (pmset/IOKit, sysfs), host (CPU, memory,
thermals), network (interfaces, subnets, gateway), workloads (Docker,
    Ollama models, listening sockets).
  • A read-only probe layer — command allowlist, argument vectors only,
    scrubbed environment, hard timeouts.
  • Facts vs telemetry — structural facts are fingerprinted; telemetry
is not. A five-minute daemon records changes, not heartbeats.
  • Severity-classified diffs — critical, warning, notice, info.
  • A verifiable ledger — content-addressed objects and a parent-linked hash
chain. surveyor verify catches edits, reordering, and missing objects.
  • A scribe — deterministic changelogs, with an optional Ollama rewrite of
the opening paragraph. Facts never come from the model.
  • Redaction — publish plats without serials, MAC host bits, public
    addresses, or SSIDs.
  • Outputs — layered ASCII plat, Markdown tables, Mermaid graph, OET JSON.
  • A new banner — a levelled theodolite sighting a four-node graph.

Verified

  • 115 tests, no network, under a second.
  • CI green on macOS and Linux, Python 3.11 / 3.12 / 3.13.
  • Real scans exercised on both platforms, including a live Ollama server.
