AgentFEM 0.4.4

Bounded implicit contact, dependable accepted-state output, and a simpler path
from installation to a reproducible project.

Highlights

  • Named multiple rigid-contact pairs and selected Coulomb/periodic-MPC
    compositions in the ordinary finite-strain J2 Step. Supported branches share
    the total Newton residual/tangent and joint accepted-state lifecycle.
  • Accepted force, moment, work, energy and raw contact-point evidence; correct
    physical cell averaging on distorted/curved meshes; early rejection of
    unsupported material/boundary combinations and invalid increment controls.
  • Live immutable response frames with atomic XDMF publication, preserved
    restart segments, and optional lossless binary history companions.
  • Material-spectrum/response reuse, contact-stencil coalescing, leaner scalar
    observations and opt-in managed preconditioner reuse. No universal or new
    full-composite speedup is claimed.
  • Shorter Windows/WSL onboarding with explicit mirror choice, preserved
    existing environments and one clear manual handoff when a stage is blocked.
  • Release-content identity and distributed rejection/recovery checks are now
    enforced by the release pipeline.

Scientific scope

Finite-J2 implicit contact, selected friction and periodic contact remain
experimental within the documented geometry/friction/MPC matrix. General
self-contact, deformable-master implicit contact and distributed implicit
contact are not admitted. Nonuniform plastic-contact spatial convergence and
an independent same-input nonlinear reference remain open promotion gates.
Fresh Windows/WorkBuddy host acceptance is separate from script/platform CI.

Restart keeps earlier output and writes a new time-continuous segment; it does
not automatically append to or merge an existing XDMF file. Unsaved past fields
cannot be reconstructed from scalar histories.

See the release scope
and changelog.

Installation

Inside an existing compatible FEniCSx environment:

python -m pip install --upgrade agentfem==0.4.4
agentfem --version
agentfem doctor

Conda and mirror channels may lag the PyPI publication. Verify the installed
version and runtime identity; do not substitute a Mac wheel for Linux/WSL.
Existing material compiler and numerical-stack requirements still apply.

macOS currently uses the source-install route. The same source passed the
macOS installed-use and MPI gates. The raw macOS CI wheel is deliberately not
offered as a portable download: its optional GMP module retains build-host
library search paths. Portable macOS binary repair and relocation acceptance
remain a separate packaging follow-up, not a claim made by this release.

The published Linux x86-64/Python 3.11 wheel includes the native Hex8 and
material-body accelerators. Its optional GMP-based Q1 geometry accelerator is
not bundled: that route retains the exact Python implementation. Do not infer
identical performance across platforms from the version number alone.

Verification

  • Source: 7dbf936df18997bd8785a72f27ff230bcad68581, merged via
    PR #131.
  • Final PR validation
    passed, including 5,154 serial tests, distributed/restart gates, native
    packaging, documentation and installed macOS acceptance. Rank-specific and
    optional tests skipped in the serial run are not counted as passed.
  • Tagged platform acceptance
    passed on Linux and macOS; this is not fresh Windows/WorkBuddy acceptance.
  • Immutable-artifact publication pipeline:
    Linux validation passed with 5,155 serial tests and 427 conditional skips;
    the real-compiler VUMAT bridge (26 tests), three-level Test 5H refinement,
    distributed tests, cross-rank restart and external-provider gates also passed.
    Same-source macOS validation, the seven foundation gates, provenance
    attestations and the PyPI upload all passed.
  • PyPI 0.4.4 is published.
    Its Linux wheel and source-archive SHA-256 values match the frozen, tested
    artifacts. SHA256SUMS covers the two software downloads attached here.

Chaboche validation covers the published 100-cycle range under the existing
digitized-figure tolerance. It is not an exact vendor-table comparison or a
scientific maturity promotion.

AgentFEM 0.4.3

Choose a tag to compare

@haoming-luo haoming-luo released this 16 Oct 18:44
f6f9ea4

AgentFEM 0.4.3 adds a bounded experimental serial 3D finite-strain J2 composition with one frictionless rigid tool (analytical plane or triangulated surface) in the ordinary model.step workflow. Prescribed tool motion shares the accepted increment with material state, force and moment, path work, contact potential, and restart identity. Active noncoplanar facet transitions fail closed. This is not general curved-die contact or industrial forming validation.

The release also improves checked project execution, accepted-response export, declared strain-history VUMAT integration, and WSL runtime diagnostics. Full scope and compatibility limits: https://github.com/haoming-luo/agentfem/blob/v0.4.3/docs/release_0.4.3.md

The exact tagged Linux wheel and source distribution passed installed-use, scientific, MPI, external-provider, and macOS same-source release gates. Both immutable distributions are published on PyPI. Complete offline installers were not rebuilt for this patch release.

AgentFEM 0.4.2

Choose a tag to compare

@haoming-luo haoming-luo released this 14 Oct 11:28
d1e8786

AgentFEM 0.4.2 brings reusable native Hex8 execution and Q1 contact geometry into the installed core, improves ordinary project execution and result export, and adds an experimental, explicitly bounded legacy 3D VUMAT batch bridge.

See the complete release notes and compatibility boundaries.

The release PR passed Linux numerical/MPI checks, macOS installed-wheel acceptance, packaging, documentation and lint checks. Package publication has a separate artifact-validation workflow; this source release does not by itself confirm PyPI availability. Complete offline installers are not rebuilt for this release.

AgentFEM 0.4.1 — Bounded thermoelastic workflows

Choose a tag to compare

@haoming-luo haoming-luo released this 08 Oct 22:22
2602b03

This small Python-package release adds experimental shared-mesh 3D two-way thermoelasticity through ordinary model.step(): joint rollback/restart, explicit boundary heat and prescribed-motion work, final-state output, progress and performance evidence. Sequential field handoff and prepared-solver reliability are also improved.

Scope: constant isotropic small-strain material in SI. General first-law validation, nonlinear coupling, nonmatching meshes and transient field-series output are not claimed. No complete offline installers were rebuilt.

The same immutable wheel passed Linux/macOS acceptance, serial/MPI and cross-partition restart tests, the foundation audit, optional PyTorch bridge and Chaboche release verification. PyPI and attached CI artifacts have matching SHA-256 hashes.

AgentFEM 0.4.0 — Foundation

Choose a tag to compare

@haoming-luo haoming-luo released this 08 Oct 03:53
5dc6143

AgentFEM 0.4 — a stable foundation

One readable workflow for people and AI agents:
Model → Operator → Procedure → State → Result / Verification.

This milestone consolidates shared mesh/element/space compatibility and quality
checks, typed time-input effects, bounded constraint force/work/energy evidence,
MPI state and checkpoint lifecycles, and independently installed extensions.
It also hardens nonlinear restart identity and result-manifest failure handling.

Verification

Publication is gated on complete serial regression, representative MPI and
cross-rank restart checks, an independent provider, optional-dependency and
scientific checks, and Linux/macOS acceptance of the same immutable wheel.
The attached foundation audit records the release commit and artifact identity.

Scope

Capability maturity is preserved. In particular, finite-strain J2/RVE remains
experimental; the Zhang–Feng–Khandelwal comparison has not passed all external
validation gates. This release does not claim general industrial forming or
unrestricted contact.

Install / upgrade

Use the installation guide.
In an existing compatible FEniCSx environment:

python -m pip install --upgrade agentfem==0.4.0
agentfem doctor

The small Python wheel is not a standalone FEniCSx runtime.
Conda-forge also provides 0.4.0;
mirrors may synchronize later.

Complete Runtime previews

Milestone offline bundles include AgentFEM and its numerical runtime:

Both bundles passed their automated installed-runtime acceptance. The WSL2
evidence is Linux-container acceptance, not a claim of new real-Windows-host
certification. Runtime and Python-package checksums are published separately.

AgentFEM 0.3.8

@haoming-luo haoming-luo released this 29 Sep 11:16

AgentFEM 0.3.8

AgentFEM 0.3.8 is the architectural-foundation release before 0.4. It
strengthens the boundaries between Model, Operator, Procedure, State, Backend,
and Result/Verification instead of adding another disconnected solver family.

Foundation gates

The release closes six declared foundation gates:

  1. one mesh--element--function-space compatibility contract used by
    inspection, validation, lowering, result identity, and checkpoint identity;
  2. mesh-quality evidence and early rejection of unsupported topology or
    formulation combinations;
  3. typed time inputs that distinguish right-hand-side, operator, state, and
    output-only effects before a Procedure reuses or rebuilds an operator;
  4. provider-owned reaction, accepted-path work, and energy evidence for the
    declared MPC, weak-constraint, and bounded contact routes;
  5. a typed MPI result, state-identity, and checkpoint lifecycle with verified
    cross-rank restoration where portability is declared;
  6. an independently installed extension that adds behavior through the public
    provider boundary without modifying AgentFEM core.

Contact and nonlinear state

The first contact route remains intentionally bounded: small-strain solid
mechanics, one fixed rigid plane, frictionless penalty contact, and nonlinear
static equilibrium. Within that scope it now owns its potential, residual,
tangent, nodal reaction, resultant, penetration diagnostics, accepted-path
work semantics, and conservative energy ledger. Ordinary nonlinear state,
increment history, dual evidence, energy history, and execution events restart
atomically across one and two MPI ranks.

Time-varying loading, nonzero prescribed motion, moving tools, search, finite
sliding, multiple contact pairs, friction, deformable-to-deformable contact,
and forming are not silently inferred from that evidence. They remain explicit
future capabilities.

Time and restart semantics

Time-dependent inputs now declare whether they affect only the right-hand side,
the operator, constitutive state, or output. Linear implicit dynamics and
implicit-Euler heat transfer use this information to select safe reuse;
nonlinear heat transfer continues to assemble per step. Transient checkpoint
schema v5 binds the complete input plan and rejects changed or unidentifiable
callbacks before mutating a restored field.

The public checkpoint capability contract separates payload scope, save
boundary, atomicity, scientific identity, and MPI rank-count portability.
Supported transient, nonlinear, inelastic, viscoelastic, harmonic, and cyclic
owners expose that contract through model.step() and SimulationResult.

Mesh and extension evidence

Reviewed higher-order triangle, quadrilateral, tetrahedral, and hexahedral
routes now preserve coordinate-element identity through import, quality audit,
patch testing, output, and supported MPI paths. The six-node wedge route is
also promoted for its declared path. Conditional or unsupported topology is
reported before assembly rather than failing inside a low-level reader.

The reference external material is built and installed as a separate wheel.
The extension acceptance proves provider discovery, ordinary model execution,
structured results, verification, and unchanged core-package hashes.

Release CI also creates a fresh-agent trial bundle bound to the exact candidate
wheel, source commit, task, review contract, required command sequence, and
required outputs. This prevents an earlier successful trial from being reused
as evidence for a different candidate.

Upgrade

Install or upgrade with conda-forge after its feedstock update is available:

mamba install -c conda-forge agentfem=0.3.8

The Python distribution can also be upgraded after PyPI publication:

python -m pip install --upgrade agentfem==0.3.8

Existing projects keep the public
Study -> Model -> scientific assets -> model.step(...) -> SimulationResult
workflow. Checkpoint identity is stricter by design; incompatible or stale
archives fail before partial restoration.

Explicit boundaries

AgentFEM 0.3.8 does not claim universal finite-element coverage, native Windows
solver support, general contact, forming-capable shells, arbitrary-path
fracture, universal nonlinear-material validation, or monolithic multiphysics.
Use agentfem capabilities for the exact installed maturity and evidence.

AgentFEM 0.3.7

@haoming-luo haoming-luo released this 28 Sep 07:49
ace580a

AgentFEM 0.3.7

AgentFEM 0.3.7 consolidates the scientific core and makes mesh compatibility a
first-class product contract.

Highlights

  • A provider-neutral small-strain learned-constitutive contract now shares the
    ordinary material state, batch update, tangent, checkpoint, and global Newton
    lifecycle without adding a PyTorch dependency to AgentFEM core.
  • Cyclic plasticity gains reusable material histories, explicit Chaboche energy
    semantics, faster batch integration, and public path and structural evidence.
  • Multi-material thermoelasticity now uses explicit regional eigenstrain,
    physical stress semantics, discontinuity-preserving result projection, and
    rigid-mode and material-partition preflight.
  • Partitioned finite-strain explicit dynamics accepts compatible regional
    materials and loads instead of imposing an artificial one-material form.
  • Linear implicit dynamics preserves the exact component-constraint degree-of-
    freedom set and reuses a fixed Newmark/generalized-alpha effective operator
    across changing right-hand sides. Runtime identity drift fails closed, and
    matrix, right-hand-side, solve, and Krylov-iteration counts remain visible in
    result evidence.
  • Composite foundations now include multilayer fabric semantics, ply failure
    assessments, and a bounded rotation-free fibrous-shell development path.
  • Mesh inspection now reports a machine-readable cell compatibility matrix.
    Triangle, quadrilateral, tetrahedral, quadratic-tetrahedral, and hexahedral
    neutral routes are verified; high-order tensor, prism, and pyramid routes
    remain explicitly conditional.
  • Mesh quality now covers simplex mean ratio and coordinate-map sampled scaled
    Jacobians for quadrilateral, hexahedral, prism, and pyramid cells, including
    high-order geometry where supported.

Inspect a mesh before solving

agentfem inspect-mesh model.msh
agentfem capabilities meshes

These commands distinguish source connectivity, solver formulation, and
quality evidence. Importing a cell block never claims equivalence with source
reduced integration, hybrid variables, hourglass control, shell, beam, or
cohesive formulations.

See Mesh interoperability for the compatibility
matrix, quality semantics, and promotion roadmap.

Release boundary

0.3.7 does not claim universal element coverage, general contact, a production
composite shell, or automatic repair of poor meshes. Unknown cell types fail
closed, conditional routes remain labelled, and mesh-quality thresholds remain
project decisions rather than universal engineering limits.

@github-actions github-actions released this 14 Sep 11:46

Windows v0.3.6 Preview: first-solve compiler repair

The Windows Preview may report that gcc or a C compiler is missing when
FEniCSx compiles the first new finite-element form. This is an installer issue,
not a model failure. Open the AgentFEM WSL terminal and run:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y gcc g++
agentfem doctor

This repairs the existing runtime without changing projects or results in
Documents\AgentFEMProjects. The corrected Complete Runtime build contract is
already on main; future milestone installers include and verify the compiler
toolchain directly.

See the installation guide.
The complete clean-host path is preserved in the
first Windows field report.
