Summary

Sprite 1.0.3 fixes automatic atlas setup and refreshes that could fail on managed or private hosting platforms even when the Minecraft version was valid. No configuration changes are required.

Fixed

  • Use HTTP/1.1 for Mojang metadata and client downloads, improving compatibility with hosting proxies and networks where the previous HTTP negotiation could fail.
  • Write client download .part files inside Sprite's atlas cache instead of the operating system's temporary directory. Hosts only need normal write access to plugins/sprite/atlas-cache/, and the completed file no longer needs to cross filesystem boundaries.
  • Retry failed client downloads up to three times with a short increasing delay, allowing transient CDN, proxy, and network errors to recover automatically.
  • Remove incomplete .part files after failed attempts.
  • Preserve and log the real I/O failure instead of reporting every refresh problem as an invalid asset index. Players now receive a truthful refresh-failed message while operators get the underlying cause in the server log.
  • Update the compile and test target to stable Paper 26.2 build 124 while retaining the Paper 1.21.9+ runtime floor and Java 21-compatible bytecode.

Impact

  • Managed-hosting users should no longer be blocked by restricted or differently mounted system temporary storage.
  • Brief download failures can now self-recover without restarting the server or repeatedly running /sprite reload.
  • Persistent failures are substantially easier to diagnose from the console because the original exception is retained.
  • Existing configuration and atlas caches remain compatible; this is a drop-in replacement for 1.0.2.

Verification

  • Added a regression test that simulates an initial HTTP 503, verifies retry success, confirms temporary storage is created beside the target JAR, and checks that partial files are cleaned up.
  • Built and tested against both the Paper 1.21.9 compatibility floor and the current Paper 26.2 API.
