v0.3.0 — Background jobs: run installs/builds on the remote without timeouts

Choose a tag to compare

@harryopo harryopo released this 18 Sep 07:51

What's new

Remote background jobs — long-running commands (apt/npm install, builds, test suites) no longer hit the exec timeout:

  • bash and ssh_exec gained run_in_background: true → returns started background job ssh-N
  • Poll with the official job_output / job_list, stop with job_kill — completion notices and the jobs UI come from the DSH core, zero extra setup
  • Under the hood: one persistent SSH exec channel per job (authoritative exit status, zero polling), incremental dd reads of a remote log file, process-group kill (TERM → KILL). Design: docs/07-design-remote-jobs.md

Also since v0.2.1

  • Preset-less transparent mode verified end-to-end on real servers (dual-tab picker → official adoption → 7 shadow tools in agent scope)
  • Security hardening: passwords converge to a 0600 store with Windows ACL tightening (settings never persist secrets; one-time migration included), host-id prototype-pollution guard, read_image tool for remote screenshots
  • bash/read rows render as native terminal/read cards (expandable, copyable) via official presenters

Install

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-cloud-workspaces # from npm (0.2.x; 0.3.0 shortly)

Requires DSH web profile, Node >= 22, and a stock OpenSSH server. Nothing to install on the server.

Try it

  1. Settings -> SSH Connections -> add host -> test
  2. Add workspace -> Cloud (SSH) -> pick a directory -> adopt
  3. In that session: install nginx with run_in_background, then poll job_output until it finishes
