Should network also contain "getHostName"?

I was surprised that in Haskell, the only way to (portably) get the host name is via the hostname which has not been updated in 16 years and has no link to its source repository.

Should this very basic functionality not be in network, and thus maintained?

Historically, getHostName was provided by Network.BSD, and this BSD-dependent module was split off into the network-bsd package.
If getHostName is to be reintroduced into the network library, it must be OS-independent.
Importing it from the hostname package is a good idea, but the question remains: who will negotiate with the author?

Yes, I was thinking of taking the OS-independent code from hostname. I can write an e-mail to the developer and see if he/she is open to that.
