SODAX on the Game Boy. Live crypto prices, charts and real swap quotes from the SODAX API on an original Game Boy, plus everything from v0.1.0 (Game Boy Printer emulator).

gb_link_usb.uf2 Pico 2 W firmware: printer emulator (default) + new bridge mode. Hold BOOTSEL while plugging in, drag onto the RP2350 drive.
sodax.gb Game Boy ROM: SODAX live market data. Run it from a flash cart (EverDrive etc.).
printtest.gb Test ROM: the Game Boy acts like a printing game and shows the replies (… 81 00 is correct).
linktest.gb Test ROM: echo test for the link (used with the first-light firmware).

New in v0.2.0

  • SODAX on the Game Boy: 9 coins (BTC, ETH, SOL, SODA, SUI, HYPE, AVAX, XLM, POL); price, change, 24H / 7D / 30D chart, low/high, and a live quote from the SODAX solver. Buttons: ◄► coin, B time range, A load now; refreshes every 30 s. Start the PC side with SODAX Bridge.command (Mac) or node tools/sodax-bridge.mjs.
  • Firmware bridge mode: the PC can send any data to a Game Boy ROM and receive its button presses. Printer mode is unchanged and stays the default.
  • Print tool: only ever opens the Pico (USB vendor ID), steadier connection handling.
  • README with full setup instructions, MIT license.

Tested

  • Original Game Boy (DMG) + Pico 2 W, direct wiring: printing (Game Boy Camera photo) and SODAX screens, buttons and refresh.

First release: a working Game Boy Printer emulator on the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W. Print from a real Game Boy and get PNG files on your computer.

Download

  • gb_link_usb.uf2: firmware for the Pico 2 W (RP2350). Hold BOOTSEL while plugging the Pico in, then drag this file onto the RP2350 drive.

What works

  • Game Boy Printer emulation: correct replies and status sequence, checksum checking, compressed data.
  • Every byte from the Game Boy is streamed over USB serial. Inputs have a glitch filter against crosstalk on the cable.
  • Mac print tool (GB Printer.command): saves each print to Pictures/GameBoy Prints as PNG (1x and 4x).
  • Web page (web/, Chrome or Edge): live prints over Web Serial.

Tested

  • Original Game Boy (DMG), a Game Boy Camera photo printed and decoded correctly.
  • Wiring: Pico 2 W connected directly to a cut DMG-04 link cable, no level shifter (see the README for pins and the power order).

Not tested yet

  • Other printer games, especially ones that print in several parts or send compressed data.
  • Game Boy Pocket / Color, and the original Pico (RP2040 needs a level shifter and a different build).
