Midway: notifications for long-running commands and AI coding agents

Midway runs shell commands and notifies you while they run and when they finish.
It also hooks into AI coding agents so you know when they're done or waiting
for you.

  • Periodic "still running" notifications (default: every 15s)
  • Completion notification for commands that run 10s or longer
  • Local desktop notifications plus configured messaging services
  • Agent hook guides for Claude Code, Codex CLI, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI,
    Antigravity CLI, OpenCode and Cursor
  • Behavior configurable via command_notifications in midway.yaml

Install:

cargo install midway-cli

Then:

midway init
midway run cargo build

For agents, call midway send-text --background from the agent's lifecycle
hooks:

midway send-text --message "Agent finished" --background

Prebuilt binaries: Linux x86_64, Windows x86_64, macOS aarch64.
