Release list
Paperbunkr 0.7.85-beta
[0.7.85-beta] - 2026-10-12
Added
- Import ComicRack smart lists. A smart list exported from ComicRack (a
.cblwith rules instead of
books) now imports as a real smart list: use the new import button on the Smart screen, or drop the file
where you drop comics. A rule with no equivalent is left out, never guessed at, and one alert tells you
which rule and whether the list may now match more or fewer comics. - Import Library Organizer profiles. Preferences → Organize & Scrape → Organize has an Import… button
for the plugin's.lopfiles (dropping them works too). Templates, base folder, mode and rules come across.
A profile whose rules can't be matched exactly is not imported, and imported profiles never run by themselves. - Tidy up. A new submenu on the Library's right-click menu: Commit proposed values (save a number,
year or title that was only worked out from the file name), Complete count (set Count from a finished
series' last issue), Guess format from name (Annual, Director's Cut, TPB, One-Shot, Black & White),
Find scanner from file name (fills Scan Information) and First page is an ad…. - New smart-list rules. Has Proposed Value, Same X, Different Y (also a duplicate finder), Date
Published, a numeric Number, and the four Series: Last Number / Last Year / Highest Count / Biggest Gap
rules ComicRack has. - Scanner credits in Preferences → Organize & Scrape → Filters & names: your own scan-group names and
words that are never a scanner, for Find scanner from file name.
Changed
- Screens open faster. Library, Smart Lists, Insights and Continuity load their data in the background
instead of freezing the window, and a screen you return to is not reloaded when nothing has changed.
Going back from a detail page to the Library is now near-instant. - Detail pages open faster, most of all for manga with many chapters; the "More like this" row fills in
after the page is up. - Startup. The window no longer hangs for several seconds after it appears while plugin scripts compile;
that now happens in the background. - A custom value a comic doesn't have now counts as empty in smart lists, as it does in ComicRack, so
is (nothing) finds the comics that never had it.
Fixed
- Long strips (webtoons, manhwa, manhua) in the continuous reading modes: stuttering and very high memory
use while scrolling, worst on progressive JPEGs. Off-screen strips no longer keep re-decoding, strips are
recognised without being decoded whole first, and scrolling back is smooth.
Paperbunkr 0.7.8-beta
[0.7.8-beta] - 2026-10-08
Added
- Metron, fully used. A scheduled Metron sync keeps your Metron pull list, reading list, collection,
wish list and reading lists in step with the library (Preferences → Connections). Scraping now looks issues
up by ComicVine id or UPC, breaks ties by comparing cover hashes, and checks Metron's change feed so
unchanged series aren't refetched. - MetronInfo.xml write-back. An opt-in setting writes MetronInfo v1.1 next to ComicInfo.xml when file
write-back is on, and Metron ids already inside a file are linked when it is scanned. - Classify from trackers. MangaBaka, AniList and MangaDex can set a series' content type (manga, manhwa,
comic, and so on). Clear agreement is applied automatically, doubtful cases go to a review queue in
Library Health, a manual choice locks the series, and Undo is in the Detail header. An optional task
re-checks publisher guesses, and Ask before changing a content type turns auto-apply off. - Smart-list template gallery. Start a smart list from a ready-made template.
- Library Health: Collection gaps and Metadata consistency. Missing issues in a run and fields that
disagree across a series, each dismissible. - Reading pace. Time-left estimates for what you're reading, a Drop-off watch, and a Home Up next row.
Wanted can sort by how much you read a series. - Relink suggestions for missing files, and a Recommended badge on the best copy in a duplicate group.
- Suggestions from your data. Genre suggestions from a synopsis, character suggestions for a continuity,
a chronology check on reading lists, and a completion event (with a plugin hook, Plugin API 4.4) when a
series is marked complete.
Changed
- Lower memory use. Cover and page bitmaps are released as they scroll out of view, memory use is
watched and trimmed under pressure, heavy jobs take turns instead of running on top of each other, and
large library sweeps work in pages. Not yet measured against the earlier build.
Fixed
- Cancelling a Preferences job (Verify, Sync metadata and similar) no longer shows a crash report.
Paperbunkr 0.7.7-beta
[0.7.7-beta] - 2026-10-05
Added
- List layouts. Every Library list (All Series, each content type, each collection) now remembers its own
layout, and a layout can be saved under a name and reused: Workspace menu → List layouts. List
options (Ctrl+L) picks the Details columns, their order and width, the lines under a poster cover and the
text on a tile; Edit layouts (Ctrl+Alt+L) renames, reorders, deletes, or sets one on every list. Five
starter layouts are included. Books gets the same menu for its sort and group. - Resizable, movable Details columns. Drag a column header to move it, or the grip after it to resize.
- One input layer for keyboard, mouse and controller. Every shortcut is remappable in Preferences →
Keyboard Shortcuts, including mouse buttons, the wheel and a gamepad; the controller works on every screen,
and remaps are kept in akeymap.jsonyou can export and import. - Keyboard Shortcuts page redesign. Search, a device filter and "Customised only" over a one-line-per-action
list, with an editor beside it for the selected shortcut. - Library lenses. All / Reading / Unread / Read tabs with counts, and a Continue strip above the covers.
- Reading goals. Goals can target a reading list, collection, story event, continuity, creator or media
type, and a new Finish goal follows a list as it grows. Insights shows completed and missed goals, with
Renew. - Your own publisher logos. Drop PNG or JPG files into the publisher-icons folder and they are used ahead
of the built-in set. Library Health → Publisher logos lists publishers with no logo and issues with no
publisher, and can fill a missing publisher from the rest of the series.
Changed
- Library toolbar. Two rows: search, Series | Issues and the view switch on top; lenses, filters, Sort and
Group below. "View & Sort" is now a smaller Display options popup; Fade in covers, Cover tooltips and Smooth
scrolling moved to Preferences → Appearance. - Covers. One badge per cover, a progress bar for anything in progress, and a stacked look for series with
several issues. The inspector's Continue button resumes the issue you were last reading. - Insights charts use one consistent set of colours, with legends that show counts and percentages.
Fixed
- Keyboard navigation across the app. Enter and Space open Library tiles, Esc and Backspace leave detail
pages, arrow keys work in the Detail issue grid, Continuity, Wanted, Event Map, Preferences and the editors,
and Ctrl/Shift-click selects tiles again. - Text boxes reached with the arrow keys only browse until you press Enter or F2, so arrowing through a
form no longer types into it or opens every dropdown. - Focus rings are no longer clipped or doubled on buttons, tabs and dropdowns.
Paperbunkr 0.7.5-beta
[0.7.5-beta] - 2026-09-30
Added
- Continuity screen. Replaces the Story Events screen. A Continuities | Events sidebar with publisher
logos, one Suggestions & checks panel, a continuity page (cover collage, stats, Continue, series as
runs, events in order, Compare & merge) and an event page (Follows / Followed by, a filtered reading
list with read ticks, related events), plus a timeline with a year histogram and era colours. - Event Map. Story events get Members | Map | Timeline: the event's spine series, tie-ins and
sequences as connected lanes, three density stops, filters, an inspector, keyboard navigation, and
reading straight through the event in its own order. - Continuity map. Every issue of every event in a continuity on one map, in chronological order,
with connectors between events and "Between events" bands for everything else. - Smarter story events. Duplicate events from ComicVine and Metron are matched and merged (or
offered for review), and likely sequels are suggested ("Looks like the sequel of ...") from local clues
and Wikidata. A weekly Check story events task runs both. - Grand Comics Database data. An optional download (Preferences → Connections) that links series to
the GCD: publication bonds become series relations, the Related tab shows GCD issues you don't own,
and on-sale dates order events and continuities. - Reading Lists redesign. A gallery home with a Continue row, and a list page that's a journey path or
a cover wall. Lists can live in folders, print as a checklist PDF, and a list built from a continuity
keeps itself in story order. - Home. Home is now sections you can reorder or hide (Preferences → Appearance → Home), with a
spotlight accordion, a "because you read" row seeded by a series, and a Needs Attention banner. - Insights History. A History tab lists what you read, newest first, one row per series or book, with
resume / read next. Removing rows only hides them; stats and goals don't change. - Library bulk actions. One set of actions for right-click menus, the selection bar and the keyboard:
rate a selection (Alt+Shift+0-5), Mark read up to here, Copy / Paste / Clear data (CE's field
picker), re-read info from files, Merge series, Invert selection, copy file paths, and more. - File Explorer cover thumbnails. Comic and book files (.cbz, .cbr, .cb7, .cbt, .pdf, .djvu, .epub,
.mobi, .azw, .azw3) can show their cover in File Explorer, anywhere on your PC. Turn it on per type in
Preferences → Advanced → File Types (new "Thumbnail" column) or with the installer's new checkbox.
Another program's thumbnails for a type are shown by name and restored when you turn Paperbunkr's off. - Keyboard reach. Focus stays inside the screen you're on, arrow keys move through grids and lists on
every main screen, and Paperbunkr's glow ring replaces the theme's focus frame everywhere.
Changed
- Guided view finds panels far more often. A bundled panel-detection model runs first (about 93% of
pages on a test library, up from 14%), with the old gutter detector as a fallback and a separate
detector for webtoon strips. Detection can take about half a second on a new page. Palette:
Report bad panel detection. - Library Health keeps dismissed rows findable. Missing Files and Empty Rows each get a collapsed
Dismissed group with Restore, Relink and Remove, and a dismissal clears itself once the file is back. - Preferences → Advanced's File Association group is now File Types, with "Open with" and
"Thumbnail" columns.
Fixed
- DjVu files open again. The DjVuLibre tools that read DjVu pages were never included in the app,
so .djvu comics couldn't be added or read. Paperbunkr now ships DjVuLibre 3.5.29 with everything it
needs to run. - Reveal in Explorer no longer crashes on a comic whose file has moved or been deleted; it shows a
"File not found" notice linking to Library Health instead. - Updating from inside the app launches the installer before closing, so its permission prompt shows.
- Novels you read no longer appear in a comic series' Activity feed.
Paperbunkr 0.7.3-beta
[0.7.3-beta] - 2026-09-26
Added
- Comic reader: page intelligence. Deleted pages are skipped (advertisements optionally), a story
ending before the ads now counts as finished, and short issues can reach 100%. Press X to report
a bad page; reports land in Library Health. Advertisement pages can be detected automatically and
reviewed before they are tagged. - Comic reader: panels and zoom. One smooth zoom range from 25% to 400% with a logarithmic slider.
Guided view (G) steps through a page panel by panel, and double-click zooms to the panel under
the pointer. - Comic reader: image quality. CE's auto levels and sharpening, optional auto-crop of page margins
with per-page overrides, and smoother scaling when colour filters are on. - Comic reader: reach. Right and middle clicks no longer turn pages. PageUp/PageDown, Space,
media keys and mouse side buttons turn pages, tap-zone layouts work in paged and continuous mode,
Ctrl+K opens a command palette with go-to-page (Ctrl+G), and an Xbox controller works. - Comic reader: profiles. Named reader profiles (three built in) layered over your defaults, with a
per-series choice and a quick switch (P). - Comic reader: comfort. A reading-stats chip (H), eye-rest reminders, a scheduled warm tint
(W), and copying or saving the current page or spread. - Comic reader: info and compare. An info panel (I), a pinned reference page (Shift+P), page
notes and region clips with Markdown export, and a Compare screen for two editions of a comic,
side by side or flicker, with Keep A / Keep B. - The next issue opens in the background during the last pages, so moving on is instant.
- Insights: Today, Trends and Recap. Reading goals with progress and milestone alerts,
period-over-period changes on the stats, a backlog burn-down chart from a nightly snapshot, a
year-in-review recap, and "because you finished" recommendations. - Richer Metron and ComicVine data. Scraping now also fills genre, age rating, ISBN/UPC and
community rating, records characters, teams, locations, creators and publishers as linked records
(groundwork for pages about them, not browsable yet), and shows the final order cutoff date on
Wanted releases. - ComicVine scraper, closer to the CE plugin. An automatic match must also match the cover before
it is applied. The review dialogs are sortable tables, a failed automatic match falls back to a manual
search, and a summary appears at the end of a batch. - Library Organizer parity with the Library Organizer 2.1.13 plugin: more template tokens and
padding options, excluded folders and nested exclude rules, a live preview while editing a profile,
several profiles in one run, and saved run reports. - Role detection for event and reading-list members (Core, Tie-in and so on), from titles and
ComicVine issue names, with suggestions you can accept or dismiss. - Library Health now holds all the review queues (content type, duplicate files, series
conflicts, metadata proposals, ad pages) in Overview / Review / Files tabs, refreshes much faster, and
can merge library entries that point at the same file. - "Keep the file" removal in context menus and duplicate groups, and it is remembered.
- CE's publisher icon pack (about 750 logos, year-aware) and CE's reader background textures.
- Library preview panel v2: a backdrop hero for series, collapsible sections for issues, and an
issue rail you can drill into. - Selecting series in the Library now offers Mark Read, Mark Unread and Add to List for every issue
in them. - About has tabs: Overview, Changelog, and Legal & notices. Overview gains Copy version info
(for bug reports) and links to the source code, the wiki, issue reporting and releases, plus
buttons that open the logs and data folders. - Open-source notices under About → Legal & notices lists the software, fonts and artwork
Paperbunkr includes and their licenses.
Changed
- Preferences → Reader and Organize & Scrape are split into tabs instead of one long scroll.
- Library sorting follows CE: series, titles and story arcs ignore a leading "The" (and CE's other
articles) and sort numbers naturally, so "Vol 2" comes before "Vol 10". The A–Z rail agrees. - The grid density slider also works in Tiles view, and the View & Sort menu no longer shows a scroll
bar; its bottom edge fades when there is more below. - The status bar counts issues rather than comics, since the library holds manga too.
- The privacy notice, terms of use and ComicVine notice were rewritten in plain language and now
describe what the app actually does, including the two things on by default: the update check and
the daily Wikidata lookup for shared-universe suggestions. The ComicVine notice also covers Metron. - Changelog entries read as whole sentences, with bullets, bold text and coloured category tags, in
About and in What's New. Legal documents open in a wider viewer with clickable links, a "Last
updated" line and Copy text; the license is shown in its original layout. - The update notice links to the new version's release notes instead of showing the installed
version's.
Fixed
- The status bar showed "0 MB" and the file size, modified and created fields were empty: they were
never recorded. They are now read from each file, and filled in for your existing library on the next
start. - Dog-ear preview never appeared on Poster grid covers, and Fade in thumbnails never visibly
faded. Both work now; the fade matches CE's 300 ms. - Series cards said "1 issues".
- Collection names in the Library sidebar were cut short to make room for hidden buttons, and their
counts sat out of line. - Continuous scroll no longer jumps at page boundaries, and saving your reading position no longer
stutters the reader. - Resolving a duplicate that shared its file with the kept entry deleted the file. A removed file
no longer comes back at the next scan when you chose to keep it, and a Copy organizer profile that
targets a watched folder is refused instead of importing every copy as a duplicate. - The organizer: empty values no longer break the path, a comic already in place is left alone, two
comics headed for one path no longer collide, Replace uses the Recycle Bin, and values parsed only from
the file name are no longer empty in templates. - Scraping wrote the imprint into the publisher, missed fractional issue numbers, gave up on a
single network error, and kept only the first role of a credit such as "artist". - The Comic Book Reading Orders import dropped text between some headings.
- About no longer shows an empty "Unreleased" entry, and marks the right version as Current between
releases. What's new in About no longer opens empty. - What's New rows no longer show the default toggle-button look.
Paperbunkr 0.7.0-beta
[0.7.0-beta] - 2026-09-21
Added
-
Weekly pull list. Wanted gains a Releases tab: every comic Metron lists for the last week and the next four, grouped by week, with a publisher filter and a "followed only" switch. Request wants one issue; Follow tracks the series and requests its upcoming issues. Releases of series you already follow become Upcoming wants on their own, so future issues show up without waiting for ComicVine to list them. It needs your Metron login (Preferences → Connections) and is refreshed in the background about twice a day; "Search now" can refresh it after an hour. The Wanted screen's Downloads list now scrolls on its own. This adds a migration, so back up your database first. You can Hide a release you don't want (Show hidden brings it back), and the Activity Center tells you when new releases of followed series were added. Without a Metron login the list comes from ComicVine instead (at a smaller scale, since ComicVine allows far fewer requests). Story-arc requests now work for series tracked on Metron, Metron series show a cover (their first issue's), background Metron requests leave part of the day's quota for you, and a re-scrape starts on the source the comics were scraped from.
-
Metron as an alternative to ComicVine. Save your Metron login under Preferences → Connections and every place that used ComicVine can use Metron instead, per series: a series' Missing Issues search and the Wanted Track a series search gain a source selector, tracked series and wants from Metron carry a small Metron chip, and the daily refresh, release search and import-time details each go to the series' own source. Scrape starts on the source chosen under Preferences → Organize & Scrape (scheduled scrapes always use it) and the match dialog can switch a single run. Nothing is merged between the two: a series belongs to one source. Existing series stay on ComicVine; this adds a migration, so back up your database first.
-
Comic acquisition. A Mylar-style want-list built on your own Prowlarr and qBittorrent.
Preferences → Acquisition connects Prowlarr and qBittorrent (keys and passwords are stored
encrypted), sets how often to check, how to rank results, where finished comics go, and how they are
named (a live preview shows the result). The new Wanted screen tracks ComicVine series, lists what
you're missing and what's coming, follows a series so new issues are requested automatically, and shows
the releases Prowlarr found: Grab one to send it to qBittorrent, watch its progress, and Paperbunkr
imports the finished file into your library (the original keeps seeding), or Reject it to never see it
again. A series' page gains a Missing Issues section with covers and per-issue Request, and reading
lists built from a story arc gain Request missing issues and Follow this arc (a daily task, off
until you turn it on under Automation, keeps followed arcs up to date and requests what's new).
Downloading is manual approval by default; Download automatically is a separate opt-in. -
ComicVine details on downloads. When an acquired issue is imported, Paperbunkr now fetches its credits, summary, characters and dates from ComicVine by the issue you
asked for (no searching, nothing to confirm) and writes them into the file. If it can't, the issue stays in your library as it is, the attempt is recorded, and it is retried
on its own; anything that needs you (no ComicVine key, an issue ComicVine no longer has) appears under Wanted → Needs attention with Retry and Dismiss, one at a time or all at once.
It can be turned off in Preferences → Acquisition. -
ComicVine scraping and library organizing are built in (they were the Cluster Library Manager plugin). Right-click comics or a series and choose Scrape with ComicVine… to match
them (series, then issue, with a progress header and one Activity Center job), or Organize… to move or copy files by an organizer profile's templates, with collision handling and
Undo last organize. A series' page gains a ComicVine panel. Settings and profiles are under Preferences → Organize & Scrape; two new tasks under Automation (scrape unscraped comics,
organize library) are off until you turn them on. An installed Cluster Library Manager plugin is no longer loaded. -
Prowlarr and qBittorrent settings now live under Preferences → Connections with every other key and password; Acquisition keeps its behavior settings.
Changed
- Naming templates for downloaded issues now use the same
{<token>}syntax as the organizer. Your saved template is converted once and the original is kept; if it can't be converted exactly, the default is used and Preferences shows what you had. A colon in a name becomes " - " (as in ComicRack) instead of a dash. - API keys and passwords saved in Preferences → Connections are now encrypted on disk (Windows DPAPI).
Existing keys are upgraded the first time they are read. A database copied to another Windows account
or machine will ask for them again. - All ComicVine requests now share one rate limit (about one per 1.1 s, 200 an hour), with room held back so
a background search can never starve what you're doing in the app.
Fixed
- Update "Restart" no longer freezes. Clicking Restart on the update-ready notice left the app hung and never started the installer, because the updater was never told how to close Paperbunkr. It now closes the app cleanly and the installer runs. Builds before this one still have the problem, so install this release by hand once.
- Scraping no longer writes a random "volume". A scrape put the source's internal volume id (a number like 77691) into a comic's Volume field. It now writes the series' start year, as the original ComicVine Scraper did, and leaves Volume alone when the year isn't known. Comics already scraped keep their old value until you scrape them again (Overwrite existing values is on by default); the scheduled scrape now decides what is unscraped by the recorded source as well as the volume.
Paperbunkr 0.6.4-beta
[0.6.4-beta] - 2026-09-19
Added
- Themes (Preferences → Appearance). Skins are now Themes, each with a Light or Dark variant.
New built-in themes: Daylight, Overcast, Matrix, Maximum Contrast, and a colour-blind-safe theme.
Theme options: True black for OLED screens (suspended automatically while you read),
Auto switch (follow the system Light/Dark setting, or switch on a schedule you set),
an accent color override, a font family picker, and a Matrix rain toggle for the
Matrix theme's falling-glyph background (also throttled on battery and under Reduced Motion). - Smooth scrolling toggle in the Library view popup (default on): mouse-wheel notches ease to
their target instead of jumping. Touchpads, the scrollbar, keyboard and touch are unaffected, and
it stays off when Windows asks for reduced motion. - Suggested Story Events and Continuities. Paperbunkr now proposes Story Events (issues that
share a Story Arc, optionally checked against ComicVine/Metron) and shared-universe Continuities
(matched through Wikidata and your series' recurring characters). Nothing is created until you
click Accept, and anything you Dismiss stays dismissed. Suggestions refresh on a schedule, and
there is a Check Wikidata button in the Story Events sidebar, a per-issue look-up button in
Issue Properties, and Look up on Wikidata on a series' Continuities tab. - Tracker improvements. MangaDex joins the supported trackers, each tracker link now shows
its own score and finish date, and Preferences → Connections → Tracking behavior has five
toggles for automatic progress updates (progress after reading, on mark-as-read, auto-pull from
trackers, and more). Every automatic update reports through the Activity Center. Setup steps for
all eight trackers are on the wiki's Trackers page. - External metadata does more. A linked external record can now bring in its related titles,
tags and a series rating, not only the basic fields. - Reader options (Preferences → Reader): Auto-hide toolbar when idle, and a Chrome reveal
style that chooses between each corner control popping in as you hover over it and the whole
toolbar appearing on any mouse movement. Save Page As in the page right-click menu saves the
current page as PNG or JPEG, and Change Cover on a series can pick a cover from another
comic in the series or from a reading list, not only from a file. - Book file associations now include EPUB, FB2 and MOBI in the installer and in
Preferences → Advanced → File Association.
Changed
- Library search and scrolling were rebuilt for large libraries (see Fixed). Searching by a
field in the per-comic grid (e.g.writer:miller) now lists only the comics that match, as
ComicRack does, instead of every comic in any series that had one match; searching a series name
still lists all of that series' comics. - Search and filter changes no longer replay the staggered card fade-in (it still plays on opening
the library, changing view mode, and changing sort/group), and a new search result set starts
scrolled to the top. - Hover and focus rings now also appear on Panorama covers and on List, Tiles and Details rows.
Poster-grid publisher badges show the logo only.
Fixed
- Library search no longer lags while you type. Results now update ~150 ms after you pause
(instantly when you clear the box), computed off the UI thread from a cached snapshot instead of
rebuilding every card and row on every keystroke, and swapped in with a single refresh. Typing in
a 3,000-comic library dropped from roughly 0.7–1.9 s per keystroke to a few milliseconds of
UI-thread work. Search text is still remembered across restarts. - Library scrolling is smoother. The staggered card fade-in now plays only when a screen opens
or its view/sort/group changes, not on every scroll. Poster and Tiles cards build their optional
parts (dog-ear peek, selection box, plugin overlay, rating badge) only when needed, the grid stops
re-measuring on every scroll step, and covers come from a display-size cache (about 300 MB budget)
with a newest-first decode queue that prefetches about two screens ahead, so covers no longer pop
in while you scroll. - Opening a comic or book by double-clicking it (or through a file association) could hang the app
on launch. - Book reader drawers (contents, bookmarks, highlights, search, font and theme) showed only their
header, with the rest hidden behind the page. - Panorama grid covers no longer leave gaps: the minimum card width now fits a standard cover.
Paperbunkr 0.6.0-beta
[0.6.0-beta] - 2026-09-15
Added
- Library screen master-detail redesign. Library moves from a single grid+sidebar layout to a
3-pane view — sidebar, list, and a live preview panel that shows details for the selected series
or issue without leaving the list. View modes consolidate from 5 down to 3 (Grid, List,
Details/Table); Grid absorbs the old Poster/Panorama split as a cover-fit toggle, List absorbs
Tiles as a density toggle. Tile overlays (publisher/language chips, unread dot, rating badge,
dog-ear peek, selection checkbox) now follow a single priority-ordered corner system instead of
stacking ad-hoc, and the toolbar/tiles spend more of the app's existing skin palette instead of a
hardcoded color. - Cosmetic thumbnail toggles (Preferences → Library → View & Sort): fade-in on genuine cover
decode, a hover/selected dog-ear peek at a comic's real second page, hover tooltips with a small
thumbnail plus title/writer/penciller/summary/file info, and a numeric rating badge. Preferences →
Advanced gained "Exported reading lists contain filenames" for.cblexport. - Open a comic/manga file on launch. Double-clicking a supported file (or an OS file-association
launch) now opens it directly — importing it into the library first if it isn't there already —
instead of just restoring the last screen. - Plugin context menu. Library and Detail right-click menus now show a "Plugins" submenu listing
every enabled Library-hook plugin command, replacing a single hardcoded "Find Duplicates" entry. - Native plugin API:
BeginModalBatchkeeps a persistent progress header mounted across a
sequence of modal calls (e.g. a scrape batch), instead of the dialog shell tearing down between
each item.
Fixed
- Book reader could fail to open with an "Access is denied" error on a per-machine (Program Files)
install — the embedded browser's data folder now lives under the user's own AppData instead of
next to the installed EXE. - A downloaded update installer could vanish before "Restart" was clicked — it's now saved to
%AppData%\Paperbunkr\updatesinstead of the OS's temp folder, which can be swept at any time. - Clicking non-interactive content inside a dialog (e.g. a decorative label) could unintentionally
close the whole dialog — only a genuine click on the dialog's own backdrop dismisses it now. - Picking a suggestion from a search/autocomplete field could occasionally crash the app.
Paperbunkr 0.5.0-beta
[0.5.0-beta] - 2026-09-14
Added
- Update-available Activity Center alert. Checking for updates (Preferences → About →
"Check Now", or the automatic startup check) now raises an Activity Center alert with a "View
release" link straight to the GitHub releases page, alongside the existing in-app download flow. - "Confirm before closing" toggle (Preferences → General → Window). When on, clicking the
window's close button asks before actually quitting — only when the close button would really
exit the app, not when Minimize to tray is already catching it.
Paperbunkr 0.4.2-beta
[0.4.2-beta] - 2026-09-14
Added
- Reader chrome redesign. The comic/manga reader's floating toolbar clusters, drawer, and page
thumbnail rail now use a frosted-glass look consistent with the rest of the app. Reading-mode and
fit-mode pickers are icon-labeled pill menus instead of plain text lists; zoom is a single control
that works the same way in paged and continuous/long-strip modes. The Reader Tools drawer is
reorganized — rotate/auto-rotate/double-page as one icon grid, color adjustments tucked behind a
collapsible section, bookmarks always visible at the bottom instead of scrolling away. The page
thumbnail strip now shows a hover-magnify effect (like the macOS Dock) so individual pages stay
easy to pick out even in long collected editions, and never grows wider than its panel regardless
of page count. - Issue Properties and Bulk Issue Properties redesign. Both editors match the newer card-based
look, with a leading icon on every field label, a friendlier grouped layout for the single-issue
editor's Details tab (Core Details / Credits), and a proper multi-option picker for tag weight
(Unset/Incidental/Recurrent/Defining/Core) in place of a free-typed box. - Detail screen redesign. Comic and manga detail pages, the issues grid, and the Details/
Related/Activity tabs share the same visual language now; Details gained more credit and metadata
fields, and the Activity tab's event log covers more of what happens to a series. - Native plugin support. Plugins can now ship native (non-.NET) code, with automatic updates, a
trust notice and picker for installing a.pbpluginpackage, and a new extension point for adding
custom panels to the comic detail screen. The Plugin Management screen itself was redesigned
around a master-detail layout. - Reader: page background textures. A textured page background option (matching CE) with a
matching page drop-shadow. - Reader: page spread position tracking. Manually mark a page as the leading or trailing side of
a two-page spread, via a new context-menu submenu and a thumbnail-rail glyph; imported from
ComicInfo.xml's<Pages>data when present. - Reader: smoother long-strip (webtoon) scrolling. Very tall continuous-mode pages now decode in
bands instead of all at once, cutting memory use and improving scroll smoothness. - Reader: cursor-anchored zoom in continuous mode. Ctrl+scroll-wheel and pinch-zoom now zoom
toward the cursor/pinch point instead of the canvas center. - Library: more sort/group options. Group by Virtual Tags, a "Needs Review" grouper, group by
open count, and a three-state Is-Final-Issue filter. - Library: keyboard navigation. Type-ahead jump-to-item, Shift+Arrow range selection, and Ctrl+Q
to quit. - Smoother screen-entrance animation for the Books, Smart Lists, and Reading Lists grids,
matching the Library grid's existing entrance motion. Issue.AlternateCount— the ComicInfo.xml crossover-issue count field is now read and
editable, closing a CE-parity gap.
Fixed
- Reader: the page-position scrubber no longer stretches the whole toolbar edge-to-edge (and
never shows a scrollbar) on books with very high page counts, like trade paperback compilations —
the page dots shrink to fit instead. - Reader: the textured page background's drop-shadow no longer blanks out the whole page in
paged mode. - A rare startup crash in native-plugin modals (e.g. mid-scrape review dialogs), caused by a
plugin's background work occasionally resolving on a non-UI thread. - Library plugin commands (right-click "Plugins ▸" on a tile, or the bulk-action dropdown) were
silently broken since the native plugin tier landed — a leftover call to a since-renamed method
meant no enabled library plugin command could run. Fixed. - A form-field auto-complete box (
SuggestBox, used throughout the metadata editors) in strict mode
could show a field's own last-typed value instead of the real current one. - The Library grid's collection tiles now correctly participate in the cover-flight transition when
opening a collection, instead of jumping straight to the destination screen.
