Was very pleasantly surprised today to discover it's possible to use mathematical divisors in the dimensional value fields of objects. For example, entering 45/3 results in a value of 15. This doesn't sound like a big deal until you need to do more complex calculator math to precisely resize an element for some intended purpose, and then it's a huge timesaver.
I couldn't seem to make it work with multipliers, though. i.e. 15*3; or additives (15+3); or subtractives (15-3)
Is the option there and it just uses different symbols than my examples, or is this a feature that could be added?
@prmod3d, this is in 1.51.0: besides "45/3", every number field now takes +, -, * (or x) and brackets, e.g. "153", "120-24" or "(40+2)/2"; a decimal comma works inside a calculation too.
@prmod3d It is built and comes with the next update: a number field keeps the calculation you typed. You still see the number; click into the field and the formula is back, (140+2)/2 ready to become (40+6)/2. It stays as long as the value still equals it - drag a handle, use the slider or scale the body and the field shows just the number again; a plain number clears it. Value and formula change together, so undo takes both back, and the formulas are saved with the design.
@prmod3d This is in 1.59.0: a number field keeps the calculation you typed and shows it again when you click into the field, as long as the value still equals it.
It did take me awhile to figure it out though. I tried entering a calculation into the number field of the object itself (the dimensions shown around the object when it's selected) which didn't have the stated effect. However, everything worked properly when I typed values into the fields for the "Properties" of the object -- the floating panel on the right side of the screen.
Perhaps a clarification should be made to indicate which value fields to use for this feature?
@prmod3d Thanks for testing, and good catch. Right now only the fields in the Properties panel keep the calculation; the dimension boxes around the selected body calculate when you press Enter but forget the formula afterwards. I'll make them keep it too, so it works wherever you can type a number.
