Imperial vs Metric Unit Settings and XY editing #65

Thanks Justin, and good to hear it could be useful in class. You're right on both points. The Imperial setting currently only reaches the properties panel on the right. The numbers on the workspace itself and the snap grid stay in millimetres, which makes resizing by handle confusing. I'll fix that: dimension labels and typed input on the workspace will follow the unit, and the snap grid gets inch steps (1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1 in) when Imperial is on. Clicking a corner to edit both X and Y at once, as in Tinkercad, is a separate change; I'm noting it as a wish and will look at it after the units. Thanks for the screenshots. |

Justin, this is live in 1.26.0 on layerling.com. With Imperial chosen, the numbers on the workspace (dimension labels, lift height, tape measure, ruler and distance lines) are now in inches and shown as fractions like Tinkercad (1⅝, 3/16, rounded to 1/64 in), in the properties panel too. You can type "1 5/8", "5/8" or a decimal. The snap grid offers 1/64 to 1 in when Imperial is on and switches to 1/8 in when you change the unit system. And clicking a corner of a shape (without dragging) opens width and depth together: type one, Tab to the other, Enter applies both. Please try it in class and tell me what still feels off. |

Thanks for the screenshots, they showed both problems. Fixed in 1.26.1, live now on layerling.com:
Please reload the app once (close and reopen it, since you use the installed version) so it picks up 1.26.1. If the snap grid still refuses to change, tell me which menu you use (bottom right or settings) and I'll dig further. |

Is there a way to show dimensions in decimal when using imperial. It seems dimensions are rounded to closest fraction. I have only been using the app about 15 minutes, so maybe I'm missing something. |

Amazing work. Will continue to test and provide feedback.

Live in 1.28.0 on layerling.com:
* Inches as decimals (milton59): Settings → Measurement → "Show inches as" – fractions (the default) or decimals, with as many places as the accuracy setting.
* Grid lines in inches (Justin): with Imperial the grid on the plate is now drawn in inches – 1/8, 1/4 (default), 1/2 or 1 inch – with a stronger line on every whole inch, so it matches the inch snap grid. Designs set to Imperial earlier open with it.
Reload the app once (close and reopen the installed version) to get 1.28.0.

Uh oh!
There was an error while loading. Please reload this page.
I changed the default units to Imperial; however, it only seems to change the settings on the right menu. The units stay as Metric on both the Work Space view and the Snap Grid. When this is changed in TinkerCAD, both the Work Space and the Snap Grid settings update accordingly. I'm not seeing a way to change these. This makes resizing in the Work Space view very confusing.
Also, when you click on the corners in TinkerCAD, it brings up the sizing boxes for the X & Y axis; allowing you to update both at the same time.
I have included screenshots of TinkerCAD vs Layerling showing both of these potential issues.
Overall, I think Layerling has a lot of potential and I'm excited to see where it goes. I teach basic CAD at the high school level and think Layerling could be a gamechanger for a lot of education programs.
Thanks and I look forward to your response.
Justin
