Petal 0.1.0
The first release of Petal: a fast, exact disk-space explorer for macOS with a live sunburst chart.
Highlights
- Live from the first second. The chart fills in while Petal reads, and you can explore before the scan finishes.
- Fast. A whole Mac (about 6 million files) in roughly 25 seconds.
- Exact. For the startup disk, the chart adds up to the disk's used space, to the byte.
- Findings. Xcode build files, simulators, caches,
node_modules, the Trash and more, each labelled Safe to delete or Review first. - Savings you can trust. APFS clones and hard links are counted once, so "frees" means what it says.
- Collector. Gather what you don't need and move it all to the Trash in one go.
- Private. Petal reads file metadata only. It never sends anything anywhere.
Install
- Download Petal-0.1.0.dmg below, open it, and drag Petal into Applications.
- Open Petal. Because this build isn't notarized by Apple yet, macOS will say it can't verify the app. Click Done, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to the message about Petal. You only need to do this once.
(Or, in Terminal:xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Petal.app) - For a complete picture, give Petal Full Disk Access when it asks. It works without it, but some folders stay private to macOS.
Requirements: a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 13 Ventura or later.
