Description

A 1-line-install memory system for Claude Code that prevents context loss between sessions. Uses ChromaDB vector storage and MCP integration to automatically compress conversations, load relevant context at startup, and enable semantic search across all past sessions. Features instant startup with flat file indexing and Smart Trash for recovery. Free-to-use forever with local-only storage for privacy.

Install: npm install -g claude-mem && claude-mem install

A few more requests - (i) the anchor links on the website seem to be broken for me at least; (ii) as this is not open-source, I have no way to verify any of the claims made about the functionality (or, to rephrase it, is there any way for me to verify the claims?); (iii) slash-command is the wrong category for this, slash-commands should be self-contained (one file), this is an npm library that i think has slash commands. Yup the site needs work for sure! I didn't verify the internal site links, and i've been making updates more so to the plugin to get it running (lots of moving parts)

It's not open source, however it is 100% Free-to-use forever, it's only "built js" and it's available at https://github.com/thedotmack/claude-mem/ - I was using binaries to try to protect some of the prompts but realized that there's no actual way of doing that, and that I'm going to build "value adds" once I get this down perfect.

But it is 100% always going to be free to use for local secure memory storage.

In terms of security, the way you can verify the claims safely would be to do it in a "devcontainer" as recommended by Anthropic docs: https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code/devcontainer

I only chose slash commands because there wasn't a "memory tools" option :)

Getting started in 4 steps
– Install VS Code and the Remote - Containers extension
– Clone the Claude Code reference implementation repository
– Open the repository in VS Code
– When prompted, click “Reopen in Container” (or use Command Palette: Cmd+Shift+P → “Remote-Containers: Reopen in Container”)

This worked for me after some poking and prodding but i think there are too many docker plugins for VSCode 😵‍💫

@hesreallyhim is being open source a requirement for being on the list? Claude Code itself is not open source.

I chose this license so I can build myself a sustainable business, and giving away the product completely free for general use.

And I built this cause I couldn’t find a tool that did it. And I needed it for my work. And it worked far better than I expected my “shower thoughts” idea about a flat file index being used to direct searching to specific points in database, then the final layer of the whole full archived chats as backup
