v1.4.0-beta.3: scanner scroll, TCP window (beta)
Beta: scanner scroll, real download speeds
- SCAN keeps your scroll position and selection when it rescans (and rescans every 30 s instead of 10).
- Downloads are much faster: the deck's TCP receive window was 5.7 KB, which capped every transfer at about 2.5 Mbit/s. It is 64 KB now, which helps updates and the vault sync as much as the speed test. The SPEED download also uses a plain-HTTP test file, so the number is the link rather than TLS.
Install
- Over the air: SYSTEM > UPDATE (BETA on), or accept the popup.
v1.4.0-beta.2: NET TOOLS complete (beta)
Beta: NET TOOLS complete
All four tabs are in:
- SCAN: every access point with channel, security and signal, and the 2.4 GHz channel chart.
- PING: ping, DNS, TRACE and PORT for a host you type.
- LAN: a ping sweep of your subnet plus mDNS names and services, with the maker from the MAC prefix where known.
Rstarts it. - SPEED: download, upload and connect latency against speed.cloudflare.com (8 MB down, 2 MB up).
Rstarts it.
Install
- Over the air: SYSTEM > UPDATE (BETA on), or accept the popup.
v1.4.0-beta.1: NET TOOLS scan and ping (beta)
Beta: NET TOOLS, first half
- WIRELESS replaces the NET TOOLS tile on the home screen: a group with NET TOOLS (the deck's own radio) and RF WATCH (the Sentinel board, a placeholder for now).
- NET TOOLS > SCAN: every access point in earshot, one row per BSSID with channel, security and signal, and a chart of the strongest signal on each 2.4 GHz channel with the number of networks on it. Rescans every ten seconds;
Rrescans now. - NET TOOLS > PING: type a host, then PING (or Enter), DNS, TRACE or PORT. Ping sends five echoes with round-trip times, TRACE walks the route one probe per hop, PORT checks a TCP port.
- LAN discovery and the speed test are the next build.
Install
- Over the air: SYSTEM > UPDATE (BETA on), or accept the popup.
v1.3.0: new home screen, Obsidian vault sync
v1.3.0: new home screen, Obsidian vault sync
New home screen
Five tiles instead of one per module. TOOLS (TERMINAL, CALC, SYSTEM) and FILES & MEDIA (FILES, PLAYER) are groups: the tile lists what is inside and opens a screen of the same tiles. NOTES stays a tile of its own, WEATHER is a widget with the current conditions, and NET TOOLS is a placeholder for v1.4. Alt+1..5 opens a tile, Alt+T N C W M F S jumps to a module from anywhere, Esc or Del goes back one level, and the status bar shows where you are.
Obsidian vault sync
NOTES has two sources: LOCAL (the deck's own notes) and VAULT, an Obsidian vault kept in sync with the Self-hosted LiveSync plugin through its CouchDB. The deck speaks the plugin's database format directly (chunked notes, end-to-end encryption, matching chunk ids), so notes written on the deck show up in Obsidian as its own. NOTES > VAULT > SYNC holds the server, database, login and passphrase, an AUTO SYNC interval, SYNC NOW, RESCAN and a log. Markdown notes sync both ways with folders; attachments stay in Obsidian; a note changed on both sides keeps the Obsidian version and the deck's text as "name (deck conflict).md". Supported plugin settings are the defaults (E2EE v2 or off, xxhash64 ids, no path obfuscation, no compression).
Also
- NOTES browses folders: Enter opens one, Backspace goes up.
- Memory: the interface, parsed JSON and the sync's connection no longer compete for internal RAM, which had caused failed settings reads and SD card errors in the betas.
- Del works as a back key wherever a module isn't using it.
Install
- Over the air from v1.2.0: SYSTEM > UPDATE, or accept the popup.
- From v1.1.0 or older: once over USB with the web installer (https://hey-its-brian.github.io/tab5-cyberdeck), because those builds cannot reach GitHub any more.
v1.3.0-beta.8: even home tiles (beta)
Beta: even home tiles
- The five home tiles now line up: icon, name and tagline sit at the same heights on every tile; the group lists and the weather figures fill the space below.
- Everything from beta.7 (Del as back, vault sync, memory fixes).
Install
- Over the air: SYSTEM > UPDATE (BETA on), or accept the popup.
v1.3.0-beta.7: Del goes back (beta)
Beta: Del goes back
- Del works as a back key, like Esc, everywhere a module isn't using it: it sits in the keyboard's top right corner. Inside a text field it still deletes, and in the NOTES, FILES and TERMINAL lists it still deletes the selected item.
- Everything from beta.6 (vault sync reads all note forms, memory fixes).
Install
- Over the air: SYSTEM > UPDATE (BETA on), or accept the popup.
v1.3.0-beta.6: vault sync reads all note forms (beta)
Beta: vault sync reads all note forms
- Notes stored by older LiveSync versions (inline text) or in the plugin's binary form were skipped as "non-markdown files". They sync now. Press RESCAN once after updating to pull them in.
- Everything from beta.5 (memory fixes) is included.
Install
- Over the air: SYSTEM > UPDATE (BETA on), or accept the popup.
v1.3.0-beta.5: vault memory fixes (beta)
Beta: memory fixes for the vault
- The deck no longer runs out of memory with a vault open. The user interface now keeps its widgets in PSRAM, which frees the internal RAM that networking, encryption and the SD card need. This was behind settings showing as NOT SET, NOTES flipping to LOCAL, and the sync's connection failures.
- No more crash when a sync starts (the sync task has a bigger stack).
- The sync log shows free memory and the task's stack headroom at the end of each run.
Same features as beta.4 otherwise (RESCAN, retry list, kept connection).
Install
- Over the air: SYSTEM > UPDATE (BETA on), or accept the popup.
v1.3.0-beta.4: vault sync memory fixes (beta)
Beta: vault sync, memory fixes
- Sync no longer runs the deck out of memory. One HTTPS connection is kept for the whole run (it was one per note), parsed JSON lives in PSRAM, and a dead connection stops the run instead of grinding on. This was behind "chunk fetch failed", "would not decrypt", NOTES flipping back to LOCAL, and the SD card errors.
- Nothing gets skipped for good: a note whose chunks could not be fetched is retried on the next sync, and the panel has a RESCAN button that walks the whole database again (notes already on the card are matched by revision and skipped). Use RESCAN once to pick up what earlier betas missed.
- The log shows progress every 10 notes and the free memory as it goes.
Install
- Over the air: SYSTEM > UPDATE (BETA on), or accept the popup.
v1.3.0-beta.3: vault sync fix (beta)
Beta: vault sync fix
Same as beta.2 (home layout, Obsidian vault sync) with one fix: syncing a real vault stopped with "change feed failed" because the list of changed notes did not fit the deck's HTTP reply limit. Changes now come in smaller pages, the limit is 1 MB, and the log shows CouchDB's own error message when there is one.
Install
- Over the air: SYSTEM > UPDATE (BETA on), or accept the popup.
