Streaming Source Filter

hgcat-360 edited this page Sep 2, 2026 · 4 revisions

If stream loading is unstable or fails, try changing the source filter used by PotPlayer.

Starting with PotPlayer version 260401, you can choose between two source filter types: FFmpeg and Built-in.

Depending on the website or your environment, some streams may work better with a different source filter.

Checking the current source filter

  1. Open Playback/System Information (Ctrl+F1)

    Playback/System Information -> Playback Info -> Detail Info

    2026-06-13_22h38_12

  2. Check the source filter at the top of the [Used Filter List]

Changing the source filter (PotPlayer version 260401 or newer)

  1. Open Preferences (F5)

    Preferences -> Filter Control -> Source/Splitter

    2026-06-13_22h16_00

  2. Click the Built-in Source/Splitter Settings button

    Built-in Source/Splitter Configuration -> HLS/DASH -> Splitter

    2026-06-13_22h17_34

  3. Choose FFmpeg or Built-in

Note:
Changing this setting does not always change the source filter used for playback.
Depending on the media format, PotPlayer may use the same source filter for both FFmpeg and Built-in filter types.

Live streams

For standard live streams, you can choose between the following source filters.

  • Built-in HTTP Live Streaming Source

    Setting: FFmpeg (Auto select)
    When using this source filter with services such as YouTube Live or Twitch Live, you may encounter an issue where audio plays but video does not.
    In that case, check the H.264 MVC 3D Decoder setting in PotPlayer's preferences and try disabling it if it is enabled.

  • Built-in HLS Source

    Setting: Built-in
    Uses the Kakao Audio decoder for audio playback.
    In some environments, playback may be less smooth than with Built-in HTTP Live Streaming Source.
    If you watch Twitch Live with the twitch_live_vod setting enabled in this extension, this source filter may allow you to rewind a live stream to the beginning.

Note:
PotPlayer's built-in feature uses Built-in HLS Source for YouTube Live in version 260819.
