Release list
v0.1.0
First public version of the static recompilation of SSX On Tour (PSP, USA ULUS-10042) to native x86-64 Linux and Windows.
This release contains no game data and no game code. You build the game yourself from your own UMD dump; the setup verifies the dump and generates everything locally. Please don't share the generated files (
dist/,build/gen/,image.bin,ssx.exe).
Get started
Windows
- Install Python 3.10+.
- Download Source code (zip) below and unpack it.
- In that folder, run
setup.bat D:\Games\ssx-on-tour.iso. The first run downloads the compiler and libraries (about 300 MB) and builds the game in a minute or two. - Start
dist\ssx-windows-x64\ssx.exe.
Linux
sudo apt install clang cmake ninja-build pkg-config python3-venv libsdl2-dev libavcodec-dev libavutil-dev libswscale-dev
./setup.sh /path/to/ssx-on-tour.iso
./run.sh --fps 60 --res 1920x1080 --fullscreenTo get the ISO, dump your UMD with a PSP running custom firmware. Only the retail USA release is supported; the setup checks the game ID and the SHA-1 of BOOT.BIN.
What works
- The whole game runs as native code, with the MIPS executable translated ahead of time into C++.
- Rendering is done on the GPU (OpenGL 3.3) at a true internal resolution of up to 2880×1632, not by upscaling.
- Races run at 30 (original), 60 or 120 fps, with physics and race timing kept correct.
- Snow terrain (Bézier patches), shadows and render-to-texture effects.
- ATRAC3+ music, PSMF/H.264 movies.
- Saves go to a virtual memory stick (
ms0/PSP/SAVEDATA). - Xbox-style gamepads (hot-plug) and the keyboard.
- Settings go in
ssx.inior on the command line; see docs/OPTIONS.md.
Known limitations
- No sound effects yet (SAS is stubbed); music and movies have sound.
- Saves are not encrypted, so they can't be exchanged with a real PSP or PPSSPP.
- System dialogs (save/load confirmation, on-screen keyboard) are answered automatically and not drawn.
- No network play.
- The Windows build has been tested under Wine; reports from real Windows machines are welcome.
Documentation
