Unsigned preview notice
These Early Preview installers use ad-hoc or unsigned application signatures and
are not notarized. macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen may warn that the
publisher cannot be verified. Download installers only from this repository's
official GitHub Releases page and verify the filename before opening one.
VocabReader v0.1.2
VocabReader v0.1.2 — macOS Codex Connection Fix
This release fixes the Codex connection failure shown as spawn codex ENOENT after opening the
installed macOS app from Finder.
What changed
- VocabReader now detects the native Codex CLI bundled with the installed ChatGPT/Codex Desktop
app and launches it by absolute path. - macOS also recognizes common Homebrew,
/usr/local, and user-local Codex CLI installations. - When Codex is not installed, the connection panel now explains what to install and asks the user
to restart VocabReader instead of exposing a rawENOENTprocess error. - Windows keeps its existing Codex Desktop and
codex.cmdfallback behavior. - The macOS packaging and strict mounted-DMG signature checks introduced in v0.1.1 remain enabled.
Choose your installer
- Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer):
VocabReader-0.1.2-mac-arm64.dmg - Intel Mac:
VocabReader-0.1.2-mac-x64.dmg - Windows 64-bit:
VocabReader-0.1.2-windows-x64-setup.exe
Before using AI features
Install and sign in to ChatGPT/Codex Desktop or install and authenticate the Codex CLI before
starting VocabReader. VocabReader reuses that local Codex account; it does not ask for or store an
OpenAI API key.
This remains an unsigned and unnotarized Early Preview. macOS may show the normal warning that
Apple cannot check the app for malicious software, and Windows SmartScreen may show an
unknown-publisher warning.
VocabReader v0.1.1
VocabReader v0.1.1 — macOS Packaging Fix
This release replaces the first Early Preview installers and fixes a macOS packaging defect that
could make Gatekeeper report VocabReader.app as damaged after a browser download.
What changed
- The complete macOS App bundle, including Electron Frameworks, Helper Apps, and resources, is now
ad-hoc signed before the DMG is created. - Every macOS release job mounts the finished DMG and runs strict recursive
codesign
verification before the installer can be uploaded. - The Apple Silicon, Intel Mac, and Windows installers are rebuilt from the same
v0.1.1source.
Choose your installer
- Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer):
VocabReader-0.1.1-mac-arm64.dmg - Intel Mac:
VocabReader-0.1.1-mac-x64.dmg - Windows 64-bit:
VocabReader-0.1.1-windows-x64-setup.exe
Before installing
This remains an unsigned and unnotarized Early Preview. macOS may still show the normal warning
that Apple cannot check the app for malicious software, and Windows SmartScreen may show an
unknown-publisher warning. The macOS bundle itself is now structurally valid and should no longer
be reported as damaged because of an incomplete bundle signature.
Download installers only from the official highsunday/VocabReader GitHub Releases page.
VocabReader v0.1.0
VocabReader v0.1.0 — Early Preview
The first downloadable VocabReader preview turns an EPUB chapter into one continuous
learning loop: read, mark what is difficult, ask Codex for contextual help, save semantic
learning items, review them with FSRS, and practise active recall through retelling,
listen-and-repeat, and integrated writing.
Choose your installer
- Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer):
VocabReader-0.1.0-mac-arm64.dmg - Intel Mac:
VocabReader-0.1.0-mac-x64.dmg - Windows 64-bit:
VocabReader-0.1.0-windows-x64-setup.exe
Before installing
This is an unsigned Early Preview. The installers are not yet code-signed or notarized,
so macOS Gatekeeper or Windows SmartScreen may warn that the publisher cannot be
verified. Download only from the official highsunday/VocabReader GitHub Releases page.
VocabReader requires a local Codex installation and a ChatGPT/Codex account that can run
codex app-server. Core text AI features reuse that login. AI voice is optional and uses
an OpenAI API key supplied by the user.
Highlights
- Local EPUB library with chapter hierarchy, reading progress, ranges, and annotations.
- Context-aware AI Tutor powered by Codex.
- Semantic learning library with CEFR metadata, examples, and FSRS scheduling.
- AI-generated spaced-review papers with user-confirmed ratings.
- Reading comprehension, retelling, listen-and-repeat, and integrated writing practice.
- Separate English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese learning-language workspaces.
- Local-first learning data with manual backup and full restore.
