Project Gotham Racing PC port 1.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Oct 06:43

A bug-fix release of the unofficial native PC port of Project Gotham Racing (original Xbox, PAL).

No game files are included. You need your own copy of the game. New here? Download PGR1Launcher.exe below and
follow the README. Already playing? Press Update in the launcher,
then Play: your saves, settings and achievements are kept.

Fixed

  • Music Manager crash. Opening Options > Music Manager closed the game. A function the screen uses had not been
recompiled. The Music Manager now opens and builds the Gotham Virtual CD as on the console.
  • Frozen screen at car select. After the update following 1.0, the picture could freeze at car select in any mode
and then flicker, while the game carried on underneath (the race could be started by sound alone). The port read
display settings this game's Xbox libraries do not have. The car select screen and races display again.

Also in this release

  • A draw that would read vertices from outside the game's memory is skipped instead of crashing (a safeguard found in
    the PGR2 port).
  • The recorded models the game draws with push buffers are now replayed by the port, as the console does.
  • New diagnostics for problem reports: XBE_DSOUND_LOG=2 lists every sound stream and its volume, PGR1_DEBUG_LOG=1
puts the game's own debug messages in the log (see WINDOWS.md).

Known: the game's sound effects (reverb, filters) are not modelled; system link and split screen have not been
tested; the PAL release is the only one checked.
Please report problems with PGR1\play\logs\pgr1.log (the game) or PGR1\launcher.log (building).

Project Gotham Racing PC port 1.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 15:46

The first release of the unofficial native PC port of Project Gotham Racing (original Xbox, PAL).

No game files are included. You need your own copy of the game: an .iso of your disc, or a folder with its
files. The game is built on your PC from your disc.

Getting started

  1. Download PGR1Launcher.exe below and put it in a folder of its own (for example C:\Games\PGR1).
  2. Run it. Windows may warn about an unrecognised app: More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Choose your disc image (or folder), accept Microsoft's license for its C++ libraries, press Build.
It downloads about 1.4 GB of portable build tools and builds the game (30 to 90 minutes the first time,
about 15 GB free needed; nothing is installed in Windows, no admin rights).
  4. Press Play. The first start sets up the emulated hard disk (about 90 seconds of black screen and a short
movie). In the game, F1 (or Back + Start on a controller) opens the PC settings.

Full instructions, building from source, and troubleshooting: see the README.

What's in 1.0

  • The game: movies, menus, the Kudos Challenge, Quick Race, Arcade Race, Time Attack, saves, sound, the radio.
  • 60 frames a second in races and menus, as on the console.
  • Direct3D 12 or 11, any resolution, borderless/fullscreen/window, vsync and frame cap.
  • Widescreen and ultrawide: the console game is 4:3 only; the 3D view widens to the screen while the HUD and menus
    stay 4:3 in the centre.
  • Render scale (25% to 200%), MSAA 2x/4x/8x or FXAA, anisotropic filtering, field of view, hide HUD, skip intro,
    pause on focus loss.
  • Xbox, PlayStation and Switch controllers, keyboard, remapping, steering wheels with force feedback.
  • 31 achievements with pop-ups (every Kudos Challenge level, golds, Kudos totals, cars, race moments); the list is in
    ACHIEVEMENTS.md.

Known: the game's sound effects (reverb, filters) are not modelled; system link and split screen have not been
tested; the PAL release is the only one checked.
Please report problems with PGR1\play\logs\pgr1.log (the game) or PGR1\launcher.log (building).
