TVRelay v1.3.1

Choose a tag to compare

@hmartinez94 hmartinez94 released this 26 Aug 21:54

Added

  • Automatic update checking for sideloaded installs — Settings now checks GitHub once a day for a newer release. If one's found, an "Update available" row appears at the very top of Settings, and a one-time toast confirms it too; if you're already current, a toast says so instead. Selecting the row walks you through downloading and installing the new APK in-app.

Changed

  • YouTube redirect (SmartTube) is now off by default — turn it on in Settings if you use SmartTube.
  • Added a public project landing page (GitHub Pages).

Fixed

  • The "Watch now" confirm button no longer fails to reappear after backing out of the movie/show year picker.

TVRelay v1.3.0

@hmartinez94 hmartinez94 released this 26 Aug 00:00

Added

  • Screen-reading fallback for recommendation cards and voice-search results with no readable title (Settings → "Screen-reading fallback for undetectable cards", off by default) — captures the screen and reads the title with on-device text recognition, no upload, one-time screen-recording permission grant.
  • TizenTube Cobalt as a second YouTube-redirect target, picked via a new "Target app" dropdown. Only reliable if you've also installed TizenTube Bridge — flagged both in-app and in the README.
  • In-app help for the Restricted Settings block — if Accessibility won't stay enabled on a sideloaded install, a "Get help" row now walks you through the fix instead of leaving you to find it yourself.
  • "Reappear after dismissing" option for the Watch-now confirm button (on by default) — dismissing it with Back/D-pad now conceals it and lets it reappear a few seconds later instead of discarding the match for good.

Changed

  • Settings screen reorganized into labeled sections (Player, Detection & Matching, YouTube Redirect, Confirmation Overlay, Accessibility & Permissions, More); player app and YouTube-redirect target are now dropdowns instead of flat lists of rows.
  • YouTube redirects now open directly, with no confirm-first step (movie/show clicks are unchanged).
  • ADB installation instructions now enable the accessibility service in the same step; Troubleshooting trimmed; Limitations updated to match current behavior.

TVRelay v1.2.0

@hmartinez94 hmartinez94 released this 24 Aug 20:13

Added

  • WuPlay as a player option — opens the title directly.
  • Jellyfin as a player option — fills in Jellyfin's search bar with the title.
  • SmartTube redirect for YouTube video recommendations (Settings → "Redirect YouTube recommendations to SmartTube", on by default), independent of your chosen movie/show player. Experimental.
  • Fire TV workaround documented in the README: replacing Fire OS's launcher with any custom launcher or the real Google TV launcher (via temporary root) makes TVRelay work on Fire TV.

Removed

  • Plex is no longer offered as a player.

TVRelay v1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@hmartinez94 hmartinez94 released this 23 Aug 23:24

Second release. TMDB is now the default metadata provider, and a new chooser resolves ambiguous matches (remakes, same-named sequels) instead of guessing.

What's new

  • TMDB is now the default metadata provider, using a key bundled with the app - no setup needed. TheTVDB is still available as an alternative from Settings, and you can enter your own personal TMDB key there too if you'd rather use that instead of the shared one.
  • New: a "which one did you mean?" chooser for titles that match more than one thing exactly (e.g. a remake, or several movies sharing a name across different years) - shown as a floating tray over the recommendation, letting you pick the right one instead of TVRelay guessing the most recent. Can be turned off from Settings → "Ask when a match is ambiguous" if you'd rather it always pick automatically.
  • Faster Nuvio launches: when TMDB resolves a title, TVRelay now opens it in Nuvio using TMDB's own id directly, skipping an extra lookup step.
  • Fixed a real mismatch where a launcher card's title included a franchise prefix (e.g. "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu") that the metadata provider didn't have on file that way, occasionally resolving to an unrelated result.

Limitations

  • Fire TV is not supported. Tested on a real Fire TV Stick; recommendation clicks never reach TVRelay's detection at all, most likely because Amazon's newly-redesigned Fire TV home screen doesn't expose standard Android accessibility events to third-party apps. TVRelay is Google TV only.
  • WuPlay isn't supported as a player - it has no deep link for opening a specific title, only for switching profiles remotely.
  • Some recommendation rows (personalized/algorithmic ones in particular) don't expose their title to accessibility tools at all.
  • Voice search isn't detected. Speaking a title into the mic jumps straight to that title's page through the launcher's own voice assistant, without ever generating a click for TVRelay to see - there's nothing for it to intercept. Typing into the launcher's own search bar works fine and is detected normally.
  • The metadata provider's search can still occasionally have no better candidate at all for a title (a data-coverage gap, not something the chooser above can fix on its own).

See the README for full installation instructions and troubleshooting.

TVRelay v1.0.0

@hmartinez94 hmartinez94 released this 22 Aug 03:45

Free app for Android TV / Google TV that lets you open a launcher recommendation directly in Nuvio or Stremio, instead of whatever the launcher would normally push.

Features

  • Detects recommendation clicks on the Google TV launcher via an Accessibility Service
  • Identifies the title via TheTVDB (default, no setup) or TMDB (optional, your own free API key)
  • "Watch now in {App}" confirm button before opening anything - an accidental click never redirects you
  • Manual title search for cards the launcher doesn't expose a title for
  • Phone pairing (QR code) to type your TMDB key on your phone instead of the TV remote - tested end-to-end

  • Some recommendation rows (personalized/algorithmic ones in particular) don't expose their title to accessibility tools at all - use Settings → Search for a title manually as a workaround.
  • The metadata provider's search can occasionally match a same-named but different title.

See the README for full installation instructions and troubleshooting.
