ecobee integration no longer allowed: developer program shut down

The problem

You can no longer integrate with the ecobee developer API because the developer program has been shut down. This integration will only work with people with a developer API token and they aren't giving any more.

This is mentioned in the docs and also a workaround.

Just a note that the workaround—switching to the HomeKit integration—is not an option for "earlier ecobee3 thermostats." (Apparently ecobee3 manufactured before ~2016 can't support HomeKit.)
