Proposal: Roadmap for LG ThinQ Integration with Home Assistant and Real-Time Power Monitoring

LG ThinQ currently provides energy usage data only for past periods (e.g., yesterday or last month). This limitation reduces the usefulness of the platform for smart home users who require real-time monitoring to optimize energy consumption. Additionally, ThinQ lacks official integration with Home Assistant, one of the most widely used open-source smart home platforms.

Objectives

1. Enable real-time power consumption monitoring within LG ThinQ.
2. Provide official Home Assistant integration to expand accessibility and interoperability.
3. Strengthen LG’s position in the smart home ecosystem by supporting open-source communities.

Roadmap

Phase 1: API Enhancement

• Publish and document LG ThinQ Cloud APIs.
• Add endpoints for real-time energy consumption data.
• Standardize authentication (OAuth2) and data formats (JSON).

Phase 2: Home Assistant Integration

• Collaborate with the Home Assistant community to develop an official ThinQ integration component.
• Support device control (on/off, mode changes) and sensor data (real-time power usage).
• Provide beta releases for community testing.

Phase 3: Pilot & Feedback

• Launch pilot integration with selected LG devices (air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators).
• Collect feedback from Home Assistant users via GitHub and forums.
• Improve stability, compatibility, and performance.

Phase 4: Full Release

• Release official ThinQ integration in Home Assistant Core.
• Ensure ongoing support, updates, and security patches.
• Expand coverage to all ThinQ-enabled devices.
