I had this they have put a new setting in the app if you go to me in the bottom right hand corner scroll down to third party compatibility tap it then turn the switch on it actually says in there...

Yep found that.

Tapo App > Me > Tapo Lab > Third-Party Compatibility

Doesn't work, still cannot discover Tapo devices unless they were initially released as Kasa devices.

Ok well unfortunately you're gonna have to go round the long way you need to link your Kasa and tapo accounts together. To do this you need both apps, install the Kasa app add your Kasa stuff in the app, install the Tapo app, add your devices to this app.

Now in the new Tapo app you should get the option to add your old Kasa devices to the new Tapo system this is what you need to do, you only need to do it once and once it is done you can then go back to one app again as in delete the Kasa app and keep the Tapo app that's what had to do and it worked great. Bit of a pain but not if you can get everything installed and under control in HA. I just keep the Tapo app for legacy and lucky I did because that when they bought out that little switch to enable sharing with home assistant bastards.

No, I have them linked already however the bulbs released since the move to tapo cannot be controlled in kasa.

Oh Ok I get you now, no Tapo can't control the old legacy devices from Kasa, like the old plugs that are massive and the lamps etc they are ancient. You will never be able to control your Kasa devices with the Tapo app (unless you install both apps and run through the compatibility settings see attached screen shots. With install the Kasa app, relink all your old legacy stuff to Kasa and start using two Apps, bite the bullet and get new stuff.

Anyway this is not a home assistant issue, this is a Tp-Link issue, I suggest you contact them so they can tell you what I just did.

As mentioned in my last email it's not easy you have to have a Tp-link account to get it done properly.

I am not attempting to control kasa with the tapo app.

I am trying to control tapo devices with home assistant. The tapo integration does not work with tapo devices.
I have an older Kasa device, this works with the home asistant tapo integration.

Dude I have hundreds of old Kasa apps and some new Tapo apps the difference it I followed the instructions and linked the two look under me in the Tapo app the 7th option down is link Tapo with Kasa it's not difficult just follow the instructions then your devices will work in HA and you can delete the Kasa app because if you didn't properly you should be able to control all your devices from the Tapo app because you should have linked your account.

Oh and once you done setting all that up you need to add the TP-Link integration into HA then you should at least have some idea of what's happening? I grant you it's not easy just take one step at a time get stuck Google it I've given you all the advice you need.

Hey man, I think you're confused regarding the current state of this integration. It's broken and no longer supports Tapo device as of firmware version 1.4
