I have turned off auto update for supervisor for many years. After installing the new release you can not update any apps unless the supervisor is set to auto update. Why?

This is not a bug, it works as it is designed. See also the PR description where the Supervisor auto update flag got initially added: #3769.

As to why this is the case, the reason is that Supervisor has no (and never had) a API or App configuration versioning. The assumption for any new release/new version of apps is that the the latest Supervisor is installed.

If we'd start allow Apps update on an older Supervisor version, it can be that the new App configuration has a setting which the older Supervisor does not understand, potentially breaking the app. Same is true for for Home Assistant Core itself: Newer Core versions might rely on new Supervisor features.

I am closing this issue since this is how things are currently designed.

I don't agree with your comment. I did not try to update with an old supervisor I had the latest. What was changed is even if you have the lastest version you can not update unless my system allows automatic updates. Why do I want this? The issue referenced does not prevent updates as long as the supervisor is the current version.
