Adding multiple vias to a track/plane

Hi,

I often need to add multiple vias to a track or plane. For example, I need >6 A current capacity, which is even with a power via 0.5 mm diameter questionable, and sometimes not much space. So I want to use multiple (small) vias, and of course I want to distribute them evenly (if the space permits).

Now, with a plane this is not straight forward but still ok: press "p v", select the net and place all vias.
But when routing a track, pressing "v" places a via in the center of the junction, and there is no way to shift it off center (or is it?).
I encountered now two cases:

• I want to have e.g. four vias equally distributed around the center. So I placed them where i wanted, deleted the center junction and there appears a warning "Junction needs via"

Also, I have to add tracks between the vias to get rid of the airwires.

• When three vias are acceptable, I have the one in the junction center, and want to place one more on each side. So, I duplicated the center via, but the new vias have no net.

So I have to manually set their net.

Am I missing something? Is there an easy way? What I would really like is to place a via and it automatically sets the correct net. Or, select a track/plane/etc., press "p v" and the net is already selected.

The behavior you observed so far is all working as intended.

The place via tool autoselecting the net based on the selected track/plane seems to be fairly easy to implement.

Ok, thanks. Haven't tested it, but I think I can workaround that junction thing with planes on both layers. Not nice, but this shouldn't be often used.

BTW, it is possible to duplicate a via with a manually set net, but not the via set during routing, although it show a net name.
