Eclipse 1.2.0

Eclipse 1.2.0 is a major evolution of the theme, with a stronger administration experience, improved plugin interoperability, more flexible navigation, better Geeklog 2.2.2 support and safer updates.

Highlights

Modern administration

The Eclipse administration workspace has been expanded and refined.

  • Improved Modern workspace while retaining the Classic Eclipse administration mode.
  • Plugin information can now be integrated through declared capabilities instead of Eclipse accessing plugin-specific database tables.
  • Plugins can provide dashboard metrics, alerts, management links and status information.
  • Pending or draft content can appear automatically in Needs attention.
  • Existing Geeklog plugin statistics remain available as a fallback.
  • Reference integrations are available for modernized plugins such as Documents and Videos.

This keeps Eclipse focused on presentation while plugins remain responsible for their own data.

Improved Menu plugin integration

Navigation is now more flexible.

Eclipse supports independent Menu plugin slots for:

  • primary navigation;
  • secondary navigation;
  • footer navigation;
  • sidebar navigation.

Public secondary navigation is no longer displayed inside administration pages, while Classic Eclipse can continue using the primary navigation as expected.

Large dropdown menus have also been improved for shorter browser windows, preventing submenu items from becoming inaccessible below the viewport.

Geeklog 2.2.2 improvements

Several compatibility differences between Geeklog 2.1.1 and 2.2.2 have been addressed.

Article pages now correctly expose the Edit link to authorized users under Geeklog 2.2.2 while retaining compatibility with Geeklog 2.1.1.

Static Page administration has also received compatibility and interface refinements.

Static Page editor

The Static Page editor has been reorganized to make frequently used settings easier to understand and access.

Improvements include:

  • clearer Publishing, SEO, Advanced and Access sections;
  • improved page ID handling;
  • better presentation of page URL and publishing information;
  • independent date and hit-counter display controls;
  • improved compatibility when optional Geeklog features are unavailable;
  • updated standard and advanced editors.

Theme Studio

Theme Studio continues to provide Eclipse configuration, preview and update management.

This release improves:

  • theme settings and appearance controls;
  • palette management;
  • navigation and region configuration;
  • footer customization;
  • content below the main page area;
  • social sharing options;
  • SEO and integration settings;
  • configuration history and snapshots;
  • import/export;
  • update rollback.

Language files simplified

Theme translations now use one file per language.

The previous split between:

  • english.php / english-extra.php
  • french.php / french-extra.php

has been removed.

Eclipse now uses:

  • english.php
  • french.php

This simplifies maintenance and makes adding additional languages easier.

Safer theme updates

The Eclipse update system has received substantial hardening.

Updates now include:

  • package integrity verification;
  • safety backups before replacement;
  • rollback support;
  • exact theme-directory replacement instead of merging files into an existing installation;
  • automatic template/cache handling;
  • validation of uploaded archives;
  • protection against unexpected or unsafe archive contents.

Compatibility with older ZIP APIs used by some Geeklog 2.1.x environments has also been improved by falling back to ZipArchive::getStream() when getFromName() is unavailable.

Geeklog 2.1.1 compatibility note

Sites running Eclipse 1.1.0 can upgrade directly to the final Eclipse 1.2.0 package.

Some early development builds of Eclipse 1.2.0 installed on Geeklog 2.1.x used ZipArchive::getFromName(), which may not be available in older environments.

If such an early 1.2.0 build is already installed, see:

docs/HOTFIX-ECLIPSE-1.2.0-GEEKLOG-2.1.1.md

The final 1.2.0 package includes the compatibility fix.

Forum presentation

Eclipse's Forum presentation layer received numerous refinements, including improvements to:

  • topic presentation;
  • editor interface;
  • center blocks;
  • semantic layout;
  • reports;
  • forum footer and rules;
  • responsive presentation.

Legacy theme overrides that are no longer required have also been removed.

Compatibility

Eclipse 1.2.0 supports:

  • Geeklog 2.1.1 or later
  • Geeklog 2.2.2
  • PHP 5.6 as the parsing compatibility baseline
  • Denim as the parent compatibility theme

For production use, a currently maintained PHP version supported by your Geeklog installation is recommended.

Installation

Use the official release archive:

eclipse-1.2.0.zip

Do not use GitHub's automatically generated source-code ZIP as the installable theme package.

The official archive contains the Eclipse package marker, integrity manifest and installation safeguards required by the theme updater.

Upgrade

Before upgrading:

  1. Back up your site files and database.
  2. Keep the Denim theme installed.
  3. Install eclipse-1.2.0.zip manually or through Theme Studio.
  4. Clear the Geeklog template cache after a first installation if required.
  5. Verify public pages and administration after the update.

Release validation

The Eclipse release workflow automatically validates:

  • PHP syntax;
  • Menu integration;
  • the integrity manifest;
  • package structure;
  • archive paths;
  • the Eclipse package marker;
  • the plugin-upload guard;
  • package size;
  • the final installable archive.

Eclipse 1.2.0 continues the transition toward a modern Geeklog theme that remains compatible with existing installations while allowing newer plugins and Geeklog versions to expose richer capabilities without tight coupling to the theme.
