DisplayHelp 0.6.8 starts at login for every account on the Mac.

What’s new

• The installer now ships a global LaunchAgent, so DisplayHelp starts at login for everyone who uses the Mac, including accounts created later. Earlier versions registered a per-user login item the first time each person opened the app.
• The in-app Start at Login toggle is gone. To stop it for your account, turn DisplayHelp off in System Settings › General › Login Items › Allow in the Background, then open it from Applications when you need it. Managed Macs can pre-approve the agent with a Service Management profile keyed on the Team ID.
• Upgrading removes the per-user login item older versions registered, so the app starts once per login, not twice.
• Uninstall DisplayHelp… and the IT uninstall script also remove the login agent.
• The menu opens at the height of its content on macOS 27. Earlier builds could open with an empty band above the Profile row.

The release includes the signed universal macOS installer, user guides, screenshots, example fixes, and checksums.

DisplayHelp 0.6.7 shows HDCP state for each external display and fixes monitor controls on macOS 26.

What’s new

• See the HDCP state in each display’s status line, for example Extended · 1920×1080 · 60 Hz · HDCP2. DisplayHelp reads it once when a display connects and never changes or negotiates protection.
• Use Check HDCP under More Controls to read it again, for example after playback starts or stops. The result names the protocol family macOS reports, the protection and encryption state, and the time of the check.
• When the DisplayPort receiver reports it, the result also states whether a repeater is present, the reported device count and depth, and any topology limit flags. These are observations from the display chain, not a verdict on a specific device.
• Copy Diagnostics includes the HDCP result and raw register values for support.
• Get a one-click hint when a display runs below 50 Hz and a smoother mode exists at the same size, such as 60 Hz is available at 1920×1080 without HiDPI.
• Brightness, contrast and monitor volume work again on macOS 26, where the display service moved in the system registry. Ports that refuse DDC/CI, such as the built-in HDMI port on Apple silicon laptops, still report those controls as unavailable.

DisplayHelp 0.6.6 makes saved display setups easier to switch and recover.

What’s new

• Use system-wide Favorite 1 and Favorite 2 shortcuts to open saved profile previews from any app.
• Assign favorites directly from the collapsible Quick Switch Profiles section.
• Restore the setup from before the last profile switch, or save and restore an explicit default setup.
• Save profiles for identical monitors when macOS provides distinct display UUIDs. These profiles open in manual preview so you can confirm the numbered screens before applying them.
• Keep profile and language controls stable while read-only display status refreshes run.

Follow your Mac's language

DisplayHelp follows macOS language preferences by default. If you previously chose an app language, open DisplayHelp, click the globe at the top, choose Follow System, then Restart Now. macOS selects the best available bundled translation from your preferred languages; English is the final fallback.

For example, a Mac set to Italian uses Italian when DisplayHelp follows the system. An unsupported first language can fall back to another supported language in your preferred list.

Choose a language inside DisplayHelp

1. Click the DisplayHelp icon in the macOS menu bar.
2. Click the globe at the top of the app menu.
3. Select your language by its native name.
4. Choose Restart Now, or Later to apply the choice the next time the app opens.

This changes only DisplayHelp for the current macOS user. For example, you can use DisplayHelp in Spanish on an English-language shared Mac without changing the Mac's language or other apps. The selection persists until changed; choose Follow System to return to the Mac's preferences. The globe is temporarily unavailable while display changes, profile checks or fixes are running.

macOS settings versus the in-app globe

Both routes use Apple's native localization system and the same bundled translations. The globe is a convenient selector, not a separate translation engine. An app-specific choice takes precedence over the Mac's preferred languages until removed. No online translation service is used, and macOS does not generate missing translations.

Language is separate from display profiles: loading or importing a profile does not change it. User-entered profile/display names, device names, custom script descriptions/output and historical diagnostics keep their original text. Longer interface labels wrap or stack; Arabic uses right-to-left presentation while the display diagram preserves physical screen positions.

Other changes

• All 374 app-owned strings have bundled translations in the eleven languages listed above.
• The globe at the top of the menu offers an app-only language choice and Follow System. Restart to apply a choice. macOS selects bundled translations using its preferred-language matching; it does not generate translations. Language is a per-user preference, independent of display profiles.
• Longer labels wrap or move controls into vertical layouts. Arabic uses right-to-left presentation while screen geometry and technical values retain their intended direction.
• Native confirmation dialogs and the Keep/Revert window remain above the app and receive keyboard focus.
• The latest four languages were checked against Apple's localized documentation; 36 translated entries were corrected for consistent terminology.
• Fixed an import-mapping crash by attaching display and audio menus before activating their layout constraints.
• Refreshed screenshots, user/helpdesk instructions, Word/PDF guides and downloadable examples accompany this release. The updated gallery includes the globe menu, restart confirmation, Traditional Chinese and Arabic examples. Guides explain macOS versus in-app language selection.

Validation and limits

• The universal installer is Developer ID signed, notarized by Apple, stapled and accepted by Gatekeeper.
• 150 Swift tests and all 6 installer lifecycle checks pass.
• Catalog validation checks all eleven languages, interpolation placeholders and required plural categories; 22 compiled native localization resources match the catalog.
• Native bundle probes cover all eleven languages, regional matching, per-app overrides and English fallback.
• Fixture previews cover light/dark appearance, small screens, four displays, mirroring, long names, empty states, countdown button sizing and foreground confirmation order/focus.
• The locally installed 0.6.5 (118) translation build was verified before release packaging. Build 119 is the signed release build.

The translations have not had independent native-speaker review. Online Apple terminology checks and automated tests do not certify every sentence. User-entered names, device names, custom script output and historical diagnostics retain their original content. Traditional Chinese uses Taiwan terminology; Hong Kong regional wording may differ.

Screenshots use production controls with isolated sample data. They do not establish hardware compatibility. Room-specific hardware, VoiceOver and native-speaker walkthroughs remain deployment checks. Previous hardware and audio results remain in the historical release notes.

What changed

• A compact menu keeps everyday controls visible. Advanced display settings are under More Controls; Troubleshooting groups Detect Displays, fixes, history and Copy Diagnostics.
• The menu fits its content within the available screen height, with scrolling for longer setups. The layout diagram labels screens without repeating a separate legend.
• Each display shows its actual position/alignment relative to a named screen and its rotation beside Place…. Placement actions name both the selected and reference screen. Make Main is inside Place.
• Moving the primary screen translates the full desktop to preserve its origin and main-display role. Placement is checked against macOS readback before it is reported successful.
• Diagnostics export the latest 20 events with linked change IDs, before/requested/actual layout state, and rotation verification. Keep, manual Revert, timeout, disconnect, quit and failed rollback outcomes are distinguished. Full history stays local.
• The original Audio picker and Output Volume behavior are retained. There is no new global output selector in this release.
• Current documentation screenshots and downloadable Word/PDF guides are refreshed for this version.

Validation

• 148 Swift regression tests passed on the release source tree, including placement, rotation, readback failures and confirmation outcomes.
• All 6 installer lifecycle checks passed.
• Native fixture checks cover short-window scrolling, content sizing, expanded controls, light/dark, four displays, mirroring and long names.
• The user confirmed placement and alignment work in the local trial. A separate intermittent physical signal-dropout report remains unresolved; this release does not claim to diagnose or repair cable/adapter faults.
• The universal installer is Developer ID signed, notarized by Apple, stapled, and accepted by Gatekeeper.
• Local upgrade to 0.6.4 (102) succeeded; the installed executable matches the signed build and the installer receipt reports 0.6.4.102.
• All 34 current documentation screenshots were recaptured from production controls; the Word/PDF guides were rebuilt.

Screenshots use the current production controls with isolated sample data. They do not establish hardware compatibility. Comprehensive room-by-room hot-plug, audio and accessibility walkthroughs remain deployment checks. Earlier hardware validation and audio validation remain historical records.

What changed

• Output Volume beneath Screen Layout follows the active macOS audio device, including built-in speakers, with volume and mute controls when supported.
• Native CoreAudio notifications refresh the active device and its volume/mute when changed in macOS or another app. Device switches prevent stale controls from writing to the newly selected device.
• Devices without writable software volume show an explanation. External monitor DDC volume is separately labeled Monitor Volume.
• Master-volume controls are preferred. Channel-based devices preserve relative balance; failed writes/readback attempt to restore prior channel values. An all-zero channel set has no recoverable balance and starts evenly when raised.
• Copy Diagnostics distinguishes system output volume/mute from monitor volume. Output Volume and mute are not saved in profiles; existing saved audio routing and DDC volume retain their behavior.
• All current UI screenshots and Word/PDF guides were refreshed, including built-in speaker and unsupported-output examples. The locally hosted video thumbnail still links to the earlier-interface video.

Validation

• 139 Swift tests passed without compiler warnings, covering channel balance, invalid levels, write/readback failure recovery, unsupported outputs, stale-device writes and unchanged stored preferences.
• Live built-in speaker validation on this Mac verified volume and mute writes/readback and received three native audio-change callbacks. Original volume, mute and output selection were restored afterward.
• Local upgrade to 0.6.3 (95) succeeded; the running installed executable matches the built executable and the package receipt reports 0.6.3.95.
• The universal release installer is Developer ID signed, notarized by Apple, stapled and accepted by Gatekeeper.

The live audio check covered this Mac’s built-in speakers; behavior on other USB, HDMI and third-party audio devices depends on their exposed controls. See the earlier display hardware validation and Identify Displays validation for those features.

All 34 app screenshots use current production controls and isolated sample data. No real audio/display settings or user data were changed to stage them; only the harmless Custom Fixes demo was executed. See the screenshot gallery.

What changed

• Identify Displays appears beneath Screen Layout whenever an external display is connected. It shows matching numbers and names for five seconds, with a shared number group for mirrored screens.
• Labels do not change settings, intercept clicks or steal focus. Repeating the action replaces existing labels and restarts the timer. A display-configuration change dismisses them.
• Documentation explains how to choose Position → Make Main, confirm the change, and save it in either a Full setup or Layout only profile. This profile capability already existed; Identify Displays is the new control.
• All current app screenshots and downloadable guides have been refreshed from the 0.6.2 interface. The locally hosted YouTube thumbnail links to a video of the earlier interface.

Validation

• 133 Swift tests passed, including four-display numbering with a mirrored group and unknown/disconnected screen handling.
• Six installer lifecycle checks passed; they use stubbed system commands, without modifying displays or installing packages.
• A live check on this Mac covered two physical displays sharing one mirrored desktop: labels were click-through, did not steal focus, did not stack on repeated activation, and disappeared after five seconds.
• Local upgrade to 0.6.2 (93) succeeded. The running installed executable matches the built executable; the package receipt reports 0.6.2.93.
• The release installer is Developer ID signed, notarized by Apple, stapled and accepted by Gatekeeper.

Three-or-more-screen layouts are covered by logic tests, but have not been physically tested on this Mac. The earlier hardware capability validation still applies; capabilities vary by monitor, adapter and connection.

Screenshots use isolated sample displays and production controls. The Identify Displays image captures the actual temporary panel using sample names mapped to a real desktop. No display settings or user data were changed to stage screenshots. See the current screenshot gallery.

• Adds Forget This Display…, preserving profiles and history, with a warning about enabled automatic profiles.

• Adds confirmed Reset All DisplayHelp Data… with a recoverable backup and preserved custom scripts/login settings; current hardware settings are unchanged.
• Clarifies Clear Connection History preserves saved display preferences and profiles.
• Fixes upgrades that installed new files but left the old app running. The installer now requests normal Quit before replacing the bundle, waits for exit, then opens the new app. It never force-kills a pending display change; if quitting is refused, installation stops with instructions.
• Makes the menu taller: up to 900 points, capped by available screen height, with scrolling for remaining controls.
• Skips running-session actions for installs onto another volume and skips launch at the login/setup screen.

Validation: 132 Swift tests and six installer lifecycle checks. Universal arm64/x86_64 build, Developer ID signing, Apple
notarization/stapling and Gatekeeper verification passed. The installer tests stub system
commands; they do not install packages or modify displays. Existing profiles remain compatible.

A live upgrade on this Mac passed: the preinstall script closed the old process, version 0.6.1 (89) replaced
the installed bundle, and postinstall launched a new process. The package receipt confirms 0.6.1.89.

Current screenshots are native production UI captures with sample display/profile data, labeled 0.6.1 (89).
Every screenshot linked by the current guides has been refreshed for 0.6.1 (89).
Hardware capability limits from 0.6.0 validation still apply.

Documentation refresh: added step-by-step data-management instructions, a complete replacement of earlier-version screenshots, and rollout
checks. Word/PDF guides and the screenshot archive were regenerated. App version/build and the signed installer
remain 0.6.1 (89); documentation changes do not replace the tested executable.

The live checks exercised production views and display control code using isolated preferences, before the final
UI polish and underscan fix. They covered full/layout capture, favorites, refresh readback, timed revert,
Extend/Keep, right/center placement and revert, 90° rotation and revert, applying a saved layout, mirror/mode
restoration and a final exact baseline comparison. The installed application was not replaced by this test.
The original mirror group, main display, modes, rotation, positions, built-in brightness and audio were restored.

External DDC brightness/contrast/volume and underscan were unavailable on this connection and were not physically
verified. Underscan Keep/Revert is covered by a simulated regression. Intel was built, not run on physical Intel
hardware. A disconnected display, unavailable mode, forced quit, crash or power loss can prevent recovery.

Screenshots and assets

Current screenshot gallery includes native production UI captures rendered with sample
displays and profiles, labeled as fixtures. Screen boxes show geometry, not live desktop contents. Earlier
0.5.1/0.5.2 captures remain labeled historical references.

Both repositories publish the same signed installer, Word/PDF user guides, Custom Fixes examples, current
screenshot archive and SHA-256 checksums. Existing profiles remain compatible; their default scope is full setup.
The public repository contains documentation and helper scripts; application source remains private.

DisplayHelp 0.5.2

DisplayHelp 0.5.2 resets saved display settings while preserving ColorSync profile files. It also includes an expanded illustrated guide and ready-to-use Custom Fixes examples.

Fixed

• Reset Display Preferences no longer deletes display ColorSync profile folders.
• The reset still clears system-wide and per-user WindowServer display settings and restarts the display session. Everyone is logged out; save work before running it.
• The confirmation explains that ColorSync profiles are preserved. Older installers retain the previous behavior; update before resetting a calibrated system.

Documentation and Custom Fixes

• The README now contains the full public how-to guide, with 24 UI screenshots next to the relevant instructions.
• Word and PDF guides include profile workflows, device mapping, troubleshooting, and Custom Fixes installation, confirmation and results.
• The optional Custom Fixes archive includes a harmless setup demo, Restart Dock, and installation instructions. Scripts run locally; no upload is required.
