TextButler is now headless: the menu bar companion is gone, and every action is reachable from one shared command grammar with JSON output, a snapshot-able terminal UI, and in-person approval for sends and chat enablement.

Changes

  • Bind legacy installation to the exact public @hraness/message-like-me@0.8.23 npm package, with the same reviewed bytes mirrored in the immutable GitHub Release. This does not install TextButler or enable automatic replies.
  • Remove the menu bar companion; the background service is the only owner, and an installed legacy menu login item is renamed aside by the shared desktop-foundation 0.9.0 retire module, never deleted.
  • Add the shared command grammar: textbutler commands --json, status --json, doctor, control, approvals and permissions return one envelope, and textbutler tui --snapshot prints the guided terminal's views as plain text.
  • Sends and chat enablement require the owner in person: an agent gets human-required and nothing changes; replies send keeps its reviewed draft-and-digest form.
  • Local reply models through Ollama (textbutler providers local), Qwen through the Vercel AI Gateway as the default route, full-history conversation search, and safe recovery after refused private web searches.
  • Owner-authored operator sends with a paced campaign runner; operator text no longer summons the butler.
  • Reply loop: keyword invocations always get an answer, fast self-chat replies wait for their acknowledgement echo, Messages database activity wakes polling, and Ghostget pins 0.18.44 for native iMessage setup.
  • Refresh the TextButler site: AI butler positioning, launch film and diagrams, shared share-image template, and cookieless analytics.
