v2.1.1 Usability and Bug Fixes

Choose a tag to compare

@hvoss-tech hvoss-tech released this 29 Sep 14:09

This is mainly a usability and bug-fix release.

There are also some smaller loss improvements under the hood, along with a few new defaults that help produce better and more consistent images.

With this release, the algorithm is now extremely good and can solve basically any image consistently. Internally, I have a set of particularly difficult images that I always test with every new release. With this version, I can finally say that my folder of images that Autoforge can’t solve with 8 colors and 20 swaps is empty.

This image was the last one that wasn’t really solvable a few versions ago. It now looks amazing:

Changelogs:

  • Faster limited-run pipeline
  • live 3D preview during pruning
  • Height map OOM fix
  • Intermediate stack search during training for better results
  • Export Zips are now done in 1-2 seconds instead of 20
  • Export STL files are now optimized, reducing size by 75-80%
  • Edge bleed in the loss is correctly calculated, leading to better height adjustments.
  • Various smaller bugfixes

v2.1.0 Better filament limits & optimizations

Choose a tag to compare

@hvoss-tech hvoss-tech released this 28 Sep 17:24

Version 2.1.0 gives the cli and webUI a way to fix the amount of colors and swaps during the optimization process. This actually increases the quality of the prints by 15-20%, but takes roughly 30-50% more time to complete. Either way, Autoforge is now no longer reliant on post-pruning to reduce the amounts of colors and swaps.

I also added a height refinement and color stack search in the pruning process. This is by far the largest improvement of the last versions, as in many cases it improves the image quality by 2-3 times. Take a look at it, even images that looked pretty bad during the optimization improve drastically after the pruning itself.

I also worked a lot on gpu optimizations to offset the 30% increase in compute time. The algorithm should now be 60-80% faster and finishes an image without limits in 20-30 seconds on the gpu.

V2.0.1 Filament library and bugfixes

Choose a tag to compare

@hvoss-tech hvoss-tech released this 26 Sep 14:00

The webUI now has a catalog of the filamentcolors filaments, that can be simply added to the filament library. This was in the code since around version 1.4, but I had nowhere to really use it.

If you use the filamentcolors catalog, please donate to their cause. Even a small donation helps them in maintaining and expanding the library.

Otherwise this is mainly a bugfix release that squashed some smaller bugs:

  • Layer pruning was off by one.
  • Pruning cancel was not always working in the webUI
  • .hfp files with broken filaments would break
  • Flatforge overlap bug fixed.
  • --best-of config bug fixed
  • 409 bug in the webui fixed.
  • Adding or removing an active filament now shows a toast error message.

v2.0.0 Official WebUI Release

Choose a tag to compare

@hvoss-tech hvoss-tech released this 24 Sep 09:46

Autoforge has a working WebUI.

This was a long way coming, with multiple webUIs either abandoned or scrapped by me, as they did not work as I wanted them to be. I use the WebUI extensively over the last week and hopefully ironed out all bugs that I could find. If there are still any, don't hesitate to notify me via Issues or E-Mail.

One small note that I want to inform you about, as privacy is always important to me: I implemented some telemetry in the WebUI build using posthog. This will not send any personal information, images, filament libraries etc to me. This is only used if something crashes or throws an exception, so that I can more easily fix any issues that may occur. See the README on how to disable the telemetry if you do not want it (or use any adblocker, which will also probably block posthog).

I hope this WebUI can help you in generating nice prints.

One more important note: I got asked what the license is for prints generated with Autoforge. I added some clarification in the license part of the README, but here it is again:

AutoForge © 2025 by Hendric Voss is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. The software is provided as-is and comes with no warranty or guarantee of support.

The above license applies to the software itself. How you use the generated files and prints is entirely up to you. If you want to print them for your friends or family, that's great. If you want to sell them, that's fine by me too.

From a licensing standpoint, this means that the prints you create are entirely subject to the MIT License, and you can do whatever you like with them. The only thing the MIT License does not give you is a warranty, and it also frees me from any liability with regard to your 3D prints. Otherwise, do whatever you like.

I would love to see what you have done with the software, so it would be great if you could send me a link to your work (even if it's just for selling). However, this is not necessary if you do not want to.

v1.9.7 More Performance Improvements (and WebUI)

Choose a tag to compare

@hvoss-tech hvoss-tech released this 29 Aug 20:28

Some more improvements. We now added cudagraphs to improve performance. I'm not sure how they behave on a mac. If anybody with a mac runs into problems please tell me. Also did some chunking with the height maps so now the vram is around 45% of the last version. Performance also improved again by roughly 25%.

In addition I did some work on the webUI and added information how to run it in the section: Web UI: One-Click Install & Run. If you want you can try it out. Please note that it is still not feature complete and probably has some bugs.

v1.9.6 Performance Improvements and WebUI

Choose a tag to compare

@hvoss-tech hvoss-tech released this 19 Aug 12:48

The last days I worked a lot on performance improvements for Autoforge. This included some pytorch improvements, some small design changes and a lot of redundant calls being removed or reworked. Between the last version and this version my test runs went from 44.5 seconds for a full run to 28 seconds and from 2.0 GB vram to 1.57 GB.

In addition I'm currently in the progress of creating a webUI for Autoforge that is easier to use than the huggingface space ui and has a more complete feature set. This will probably still take some time, but in theory the webui is already runnable (altough with probably a lot of bugs). This should then hopefully also help with the issue #57.

v1.9.5 MPS bugfix

Choose a tag to compare

@hvoss-tech hvoss-tech released this 16 May 11:45

Just a small regression bugfix, where some files did not check for the MPS backend correctly.

v1.9.4 Pruning bugfix

@hvoss-tech hvoss-tech released this 29 Mar 10:13

Found a bug that could lead to higher number of colors and swaps than was set in the config parameters.
This fixes issue #53

v1.9.3.1 Spike Removal Improvements

Choose a tag to compare

@hvoss-tech hvoss-tech released this 13 Jan 15:18

Improved the spike removal algorithm with a recheck of surrounding tiles.
In my tests are no visible remaining spikes in the output image.

As the printer has to do a lot less retracts now to print the image, the general printing time in my tests went down around 15-20% with the spike removal enabled.

v1.9.3 Spike Removal

Choose a tag to compare

@hvoss-tech hvoss-tech released this 12 Jan 09:24

This release finally adds spike removal to the project. In previous versions spikes (single pixels that are WAY higher than surrounding pixels) could form and be annoying to print in a 3d printer. After some internal changes and a dedicated removal pass, this version should now remove virtually all spikes in the final model.
