Replaces dawidd6/action-send-mail with hyperpolymath/smtp-notify-action v0.2.0 (tag commit ede1191ef6ff3ac02c4f4d9efdf837ee517e11d7), per the 2026-09-02 ruling (standards spec §5.5/§9, PR hyperpolymath/standards#725). The whole file is replaced with the rsr-template-repo canonical, which — besides the uses: line — restricts the trigger to branch pushes (tag and deletion payloads mislabel Branch:/head_commit), sets timeout-minutes: 5, carries a deliberately per-run concurrency group, and grants only contents: read. How many of those are actual changes here depends on how far this repo's copy had drifted — read the diff, not this list. Dormant gating on vars.PUSH_EMAIL_ENABLED == 'true' is unchanged. Line 1 SPDX header kept as it was.

Engine: .git-private-farm/scripts/smtp-notify-sweep.sh. Verification for this repo: regime=no-lock changed=.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml, sig=G 2cf1260 canon=543fc1474b54 base=main
(pristine/post = gh actions-lock --no-fix validity before/after; repair = the lock was already invalid before this change and is valid after it.)

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Enhancements
    • Email notifications for branch updates now use an updated delivery mechanism.
    • Notifications are limited to eligible repository events and retain existing SMTP configuration.
    • Each notification run can complete independently, with a five-minute execution limit.
  • Security
    • Notification workflows continue to use read-only repository access, with unnecessary permissions removed.

Walkthrough

The push notification workflow now runs only for branch pushes, prevents run cancellation and queuing, limits jobs to five minutes, uses read-only contents access, and sends SMTP notifications through a pinned action.

Changes

Push email notification

Layer / File(s) Summary
Workflow controls and mail delivery
.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml
The workflow uses branch-only push triggers, non-cancelling per-run concurrency, a five-minute timeout, and read-only contents permission. The mail step uses the pinned hyperpolymath/smtp-notify-action while retaining SMTP inputs.

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 2cf12

Branch deletions may send incomplete push-email notifications because commit data can be absent. Add a deletion-event guard before merging.

Poem

A rabbit checks the push at dawn
The SMTP trail runs neatly on
No queued runs wait in line
Five short minutes mark the time
A pinned hare delivers mail

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Exclude deleted branches from notification delivery.

Line 37 allows a branch-deletion push event to send an email. The push payload marks this case with deleted, and head_commit can be null. Add a deletion guard so the workflow does not send a notification with missing commit data. (docs.github.com)
