Downloads
- Windows PC VR: Download
PrimedGun-v2.0.0-beta.3-Windows-x64.zip, extract the entire archive, and runPrimedGun.exe. - Standalone Meta Quest: Install
PrimedGun-v2.0.0-beta.3-Quest.apk. Uses the same signing identity as beta.2. - Symbols: Optional debugging files for crash reports.
- Source and licenses: Corresponding source and third-party notices.
SHA256SUMS.txtcontains package checksums.
Supply your own supported Metroid Prime disc image; game data is not included.
Verify your download
Download SHA256SUMS.txt and compare your downloaded file's SHA-256 checksum with its matching entry. On Windows, open PowerShell in the download folder and run:
Get-FileHash .\PrimedGun-v2.0.0-beta.3-Windows-x64.zip -Algorithm SHA256For Quest, use the APK filename instead. The checksum should match exactly; if it differs, download the file again.
PrimedGun v2.0.0-beta.2
Keep your saves: Quest beta.1 and alpha.4 users can install beta.2 over the existing app; do not uninstall or clear app data. Alpha.3 users must back up and restore their saves first. On PC, keep your existing
userfolder.
Native Metroid Prime VR for Windows/OpenXR and standalone Meta Quest. Requires your own game disc image. Beta pre-release.
beta.2 is beta.1 with two crash fixes. Everything else is the same as beta.1.
Changes
- Quest crash fix (Multiview eyes): on Quest 3, beta.1 could close a moment after the game world appeared: after starting, loading a save state, resuming, warping or entering a new area. This happened with Multiview eyes on, which is the default. It is fixed. If you turned Multiview eyes off to avoid the crash, you can turn it back on.
- Quest startup: the Quest builds its shaders while the game starts again, instead of during play, so starting takes a few seconds longer.
- PC crash fix when closing without a disc: with VR on, the game crashed on its way out and wrote a crash dump when it closed without a valid disc (the disc picker cancelled, or a disc error message closed). It now closes normally. Quitting a normal game was not affected.
Downloads: PC VR players need the Windows-x64.zip; standalone Quest players need the Quest.apk. Extract the PC ZIP and run PrimedGun.exe, or sideload the APK. Symbols, source, licences and checksums are optional supporting downloads.

PrimedGun v2.0.0-alpha.4
Quest players: preserve your saves before updating from alpha.3. Alpha.4 returns to iChris4's signing key (the same certificate as his alpha.2 APK). The published alpha.3 APK used a different key, so it cannot be updated directly. Do not uninstall alpha.3 until you have copied and checked your backup.
- Save normally at an in-game Save Station, then quit PrimedGun.
- Connect your Quest to a PC and copy the entire
Android/data/org.primedgun.v2/filesfolder somewhere safe on the PC using USB file transfer, SideQuest's file manager, or ADB. Check the backup contains your.gcisave inUSA/Card A(USA) orEUR/Card A(PAL).port_settings.iniholds your settings. If you cannot access or verify these files, keep the old app installed until you have a working backup.- After verifying the backup, uninstall alpha.3, install
PrimedGun-v2.0.0-alpha.4-Quest.apk, open it once, then quit it. Copy the contents of the backed-upfilesfolder into the newAndroid/data/org.primedgun.v2/filesfolder. Use the same game region. If you only backed up the.gci, copy it to Quest'sDownloadfolder and select it through Setup > Transfer PrimedGun Memory Card / Settings, then press Play to import it.- Launch the game and check your save. Keep the backup until you have confirmed your progress.
From alpha.4 onward, all new official Quest releases will use this signing key and preserve saves automatically when installed as updates. Install future APKs over the existing app (SideQuest update or
adb install -r); do not uninstall or clear app data. Builds already signed with iChris4's matching key, including his alpha.2 APK, can update directly to alpha.4. Backups are still recommended.
PrimedGun v2 is Metroid Prime in VR, running natively with no emulator. PrimedGun v1 ran the game inside Dolphin. v2 builds the game from the PrimeDecomp decompilation, through Odran's Metroid Prime native port, and adds PrimedGun's @Nobbie248 VR controls and features on top. It runs on PC VR (Windows, OpenXR) and as a standalone app on Meta Quest. This is alpha.4, an early alpha, published as a pre-release. Expect bugs and missing features, and read the known issues before you start. You need your own Metroid Prime disc image: USA v1.00 is supported, and PAL support is experimental. No game data is included.
What's new in alpha.4
- Walk over small steps using real-world movement in roomscale mode.
- Locking on or starting a grapple no longer spins your view to match Samus's direction, including when looking behind. Looking around does not steer an active orbit or grapple swing.
- Restored target-following camera behavior when No Camera Turn on Lock is disabled.
- Samus faces the headset direction when leaving Morph Ball.
- Smoother transitions into and out of special Morph Ball cameras.
- Weapon and arm models are mirrored in left-handed mode, including the grapple arm.
- Stick clicks stay the same in either handedness mode: left click opens the VR menu; right click sets height.
- A-to-jump uses A in right-handed mode and X in left-handed mode.
- Left-handed Morph Ball uses X for bombs and A to unmorph, regardless of A-to-jump.
- The VR menu pointer follows your selected weapon hand.
- Improved shader caching on Quest and PC VR to reduce interruptions when entering areas. The first launch can take longer while shaders compile; later launches reuse the cache.
- Added an in-headset shader compilation progress display.
- Added Split rumble as the default: weapon effects rumble the weapon hand, grapple effects the other hand, and general effects both.
- Restored rumble for charged shots, charged Plasma, Super Missiles, Flamethrower and Wave Buster.
- Item messages, save confirmations and save prompts now stay in the headset view by default, with the world remaining head-tracked behind them.
- Message panels stay where you were looking when they opened, so you can look around naturally. Removed the dark vignette around messages.
- Pause menus, the logbook and map stay in view by default, with Detach game menu and map from view off for new settings.
- Menu models appear with 3D depth, and the map opens in front of you with a smooth transition from the minimap.
- The HUD fades smoothly when opening and closing pause menus.
- Added an optional floating HUD for Morph Ball and messages, off by default.
- Fixed performance drops and errors when adjusting render scale.
- Improved map and minimap performance, especially on Quest.
- Quest updates now use Chris's signing key. Follow the save-transfer notice above when switching from alpha.3; future official updates will preserve saves when installed over alpha.4.
Updating from earlier alphas
- PC: extract the alpha.4 ZIP into a new writable folder, then copy your existing
userfolder into it. Alternatively, copy the new files over the old installation. The ZIP contains nouserfolder, so it does not overwrite saves or settings. - Quest alpha.3: follow the backup, uninstall, install and restore instructions at the very top. Regular in-game saves remain compatible; the signing-key change is what prevents a direct APK update. Save states are not a replacement for an in-game save.
- Quest builds signed with iChris4's matching key: install alpha.4 as an update without uninstalling. Future official releases will retain this key so updates preserve app data automatically.
INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLEmeans the installed app uses a different signing key. Back up and verify your save before uninstalling.adb install -rcannot bypass that mismatch.- Existing saved settings are retained when updating or restoring them. New installations enable Room Scale and Cannon Targeting by default. Detach VR Menu and Detach Pause/Map are off by default; existing saved choices remain in effect.
- Expect shader compilation stutter when the game needs new pipelines. Quit normally so caches are saved.

What you need
Your game disc
- Your own Metroid Prime for GameCube, USA, v1.00: game ID
GM8E01, revision 0. This is the "NTSC Revision 0 (1.0)" disc that PrimedGun v1 needed. - Formats: ISO, GCM, NKit ISO, RVZ, CISO, WBFS. GCZ is not supported.
- PAL discs (
GM8P01) are supported experimentally. USA revisions other than v1.00 and Japanese discs are not supported. PAL saves useEUR/Card A; USA saves useUSA/Card A.
PC
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, with a Direct3D 12 graphics card. The VR path is Direct3D 12 only.
- The latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x64): https://aka.ms/vc14/vc_redist.x64.exe. It is not in the zip. Install it even if you already have an older copy: this build needs a recent one.
- An OpenXR runtime, set as the active runtime. It must support Direct3D 12.
- SteamVR: tested with PSVR2 at 90 Hz.
- Virtual Desktop (VDXR): tested with a Quest 3 streaming from the PC.
- Meta Horizon Link (Link cable or Air Link): untested. PrimedGun v1 recommended SteamVR or Virtual Desktop over Meta's runtime.
- With no OpenXR runtime, the game opens flat on the desktop.
- About 98 MiB of disk space, plus shader caches and saves.
Quest
- Earlier builds were tested on Quest 3. The alpha.4 APK has passed build, content, signing and alignment checks, but headset testing of the latest changes is still pending. Quest 2, Quest 3S and Quest Pro performance has not been verified.
- Developer mode, to sideload the APK with SideQuest or adb. SideQuest's guide explains how to turn it on: https://sidequestvr.com/setup-howto
- Controllers. Hand tracking is not used.
- Space for the disc copy: about 1.3 GB (NKit ISO) to 1.5 GB (full ISO). The image you pick also needs space until you delete it.
Install and play on PC
- Extract the whole zip into a normal folder you can write to, such as
C:\Games. Do not run it from inside the zip. Do not useProgram Filesor a folder that OneDrive syncs (Documents and Desktop often are). The zip holds one folder,PrimedGun-v2.0.0-alpha.4-Windows-x64. Windows' Extract All may put it inside a second folder with the same name, which is fine. - Install the Visual C++ Redistributable from the link above.
- Set your OpenXR runtime as active, and start it.
- SteamVR: Settings > OpenXR > Set SteamVR as OpenXR Runtime (older SteamVR versions: Settings > Developer).
- Virtual Desktop: VDXR becomes the runtime while you stream. If SteamVR starts instead, set Virtual Desktop's "Preferred OpenXR runtime" option to VDXR.
- Meta Horizon Link app (formerly Meta Quest Link): Settings > General > OpenXR Runtime > Set Meta Horizon Link as active.

PrimedGun v2.0.0-alpha.3
WARNING: Quest apk updating and carring over data is currently broken with this release, please wait for the next build if you intend to keep game progress.
PleasePrimedGun v2 is Metroid Prime in VR, running natively with no emulator. This is alpha.3, an early alpha, published as a pre-release. Expect bugs and missing features, and read the known issues before you start. You need your own Metroid Prime disc image: USA v1.00 is supported, and PAL support is experimental. No game data is included.
What's new in alpha.3
Roomscale, movement and morph ball
- Roomscale movement is enabled by default, with a Room Scale toggle in the PC launcher's Port Config tab, the VR menu's CONFIG tab and the F1 VR tab.
- The arm cannon follows physical player movement correctly in roomscale mode.
- The morph-ball camera aligns correctly when morphing from any facing direction. Camera pitch is locked to keep the view level, including during the transition, and unmorphing no longer spins the camera to correct its direction.
- Samus faces the headset's direction before entering morph ball.
- The detached morph-ball HUD follows headset position and rotation smoothly.
- The minimap rotates with headset direction rather than the original game camera.
Audio, HUD and screens
- Restored directional stereo audio by removing forced mono output. Positional sounds follow headset orientation.
- Disabled the widescreen HUD layout by default for correct VR display.
- Fixed scan markers shrinking when viewed to the left or right.
- Menus and cinema screens align with the last headset-facing direction. A one-second cooldown prevents repeated direction resets across consecutive cutscene scenes.
Targeting, effects and comfort
- Improved cannon-directed lock-on targeting and added CANNON TARGETING to the VR menu. It is enabled by default for combat targeting; Scan Visor targeting continues to use gaze.
- Updated billboard particles, projectiles, weather and rain to face the player consistently.
- Charged-beam item attraction pulls items from all directions.
- Removed camera recoil from charged shots.
Launcher and stability
- Simplified desktop numeric controls to use only the large plus/minus buttons.
- Updated launcher setup instructions and the feature list.
- Fixed OpenXR cleanup when the game exits before loading a disc, including no-disc and canceled startup paths.
Features carried forward
- Directional stick movement, with controller-directed or headset-directed movement, configurable speed, acceleration, deadzone and snap turning.
- Live settings changes through the PC launcher, VR menu and F1 overlay. Enable VR still requires the next start; the Quest launcher panel locks while the game runs.
- Controller input remains active when the PC game window loses focus.
- Shared-renderer memory fixes for fog-heavy rooms, including Magmoor Caverns.
- Native-port features including the built-in randomizer, Archipelago client, Original Experience mode, turbo-fire bindings and shader compilation indicators. Desktop-only features remain accessible through F1; not all have been tested in VR.
Updating from earlier alphas
- PC: extract the alpha.3 ZIP into a new writable folder, then copy your existing
userfolder into it. Alternatively, copy the new files over the old installation. The ZIP contains nouserfolder, so it does not overwrite saves or settings. Preserve the memory card as well as settings if you share data with Odran's native port. - Quest — important signing-key change (TEMPORARY): this alpha.3 APK uses Nobbie248's permanent signing key. Chris's alpha.1 and alpha.2 APKs use a different key, so alpha.3 cannot install over them. Back up
/sdcard/Android/data/org.primedgun.v2/filesbefore uninstalling the old app. Uninstalling deletes its saves, settings, save states and disc copy. Install alpha.3, open it once, then restore the backup to the same folder. Future releases using Nobbie248's key can update this build without uninstalling. - An
INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLEmessage means the installed app uses a different key. Back it up before uninstalling; usingadb install -rcannot bypass a signing-key mismatch. - Existing settings: your saved settings are retained. New installations enable Room Scale and Cannon Targeting by default. If an existing setup still shows a duplicated HUD, turn off Widescreen HUD (spread to edges) in F1's HUD settings.
- Expect shader compilation stutter when the game needs new pipelines. Quit normally so caches are saved; this release does not require deleting your saves or settings.

PrimedGun v2.0.0-alpha.2
PrimedGun v2 is Metroid Prime in VR, running natively with no emulator. PrimedGun v1 ran the game inside Dolphin. v2 builds the game from the PrimeDecomp decompilation, through Odran's Metroid Prime native port, and adds PrimedGun's @Nobbie248 VR controls and features on top. It runs on PC VR (Windows, OpenXR) and as a standalone app on Meta Quest. This is alpha.2, the second early alpha, published as a pre-release. Expect bugs and missing features, and read the known issues before you start. You need your own Metroid Prime disc image (USA, v1.00). No game data is included.
What's new in alpha.2
Movement and controls
- Directional movement, v1's left stick strafe. The left stick walks and strafes toward where the left controller points. Only the right stick turns. Speed 14, acceleration 45, air acceleration 8 and deadzone 0.25, as in v1. You can change them in the launchers' Controller tab, the VR menu's MOVEMENT tab and the F1 VR tab.
- "HMD direction" (MOVEMENT DIRECTION: HEADSET in the VR menu) makes the left stick follow your head instead of the controller.
- While locked on, the left stick still strafes around the target. In a grapple swing, left / right on the left stick turns the swing.
- To get alpha.1's left stick back, where left / right turns, turn off "Left stick strafe movement" (LEFT STICK STRAFE in the VR menu).
- Lock-on turns the view again. When your gaze picks a lock-on target, Samus and the view now turn to it during the lock, as on the TV. In alpha.1 the view kept its facing, so a boss left the view as soon as you strafed around it. The new NO CAMERA TURN ON LOCK switch brings back alpha.1's behavior. It is off by default. Find it on the VR menu's CONFIG tab, after LOOK TO GRAPPLE, and in the F1 VR tab. The launchers do not show it.
Fixes
- Quest: the game no longer closes in Magmoor Caverns. Rooms with fog kept hundreds of per-eye image copies in memory. After a while the sound crackled, the image froze, and the headset closed the game. Memory now stays flat in those rooms. The fix is in the shared renderer, so the PC build has it too.
- PC: the VR controllers keep working when the game's desktop window loses focus, for example after a click on another window, Alt+Tab, or a SteamVR or Virtual Desktop window. A gamepad keeps working too. The keyboard still needs the window in focus.
Launcher
- The PC launcher no longer locks its settings while the game runs. Your changes apply in the game at once, and settings the game saves (from the VR menu or F1) show in the launcher. Enable VR waits for the next start. Select Game and Transfer wait until the game closes. A cannon texture applied while the game runs shows at once.
- The Quest panel still locks its settings while the game runs. Use the VR menu for live changes there.
- The movement settings no longer show "not active yet" in either launcher.
From the Metroid Prime native port
- Built-in randomizer: F1 > Randomizer makes logic-checked seeds and plays them, with no Archipelago install. The options include the starting room and beam, elevators, doors, blast shields and locked doors. Each seed has its own save card. It is on the PC desktop window only, and not yet tried in VR.
- Original Experience: one switch that plays the game as on the GameCube (for example no Spring Ball and no skippable cutscenes) and keeps your settings for when you turn it off. It is in the pause menu's Options > Display and at the top of F1 > Game. In the headset, the helmet and the frame interpolation keep their own settings. Not yet tried in VR.
- Turbo fire: hold a bound key or gamepad button to fire as fast as the beam allows. Bind it in F1 > Controls ("Turbo fire (hold)", unbound by default). The PrimedGun controller scheme has no button for it.
- Music fixes: the boss music of the Parasite Queen, the Hive Mecha and the Plated Beetle could fail to start. After Thardus, with its death cutscene skipped, the boss music no longer keeps playing instead of the room music.
- Shader compilation counter: "Compiling shaders" with a count and a bar shows at the top of the PC desktop window while shaders compile. It does not show in the headset. F1 > Video > Quality > "Show shader compilation" turns it off.
- Remastered rendering work (materials, room lights, HUD). It needs imported Remastered data, and the import still does not work in this build (see known issues).
Updating from alpha.1
- PC: extract the new zip into a new folder, then copy the
userfolder from your alpha.1 folder into it. Or copy the new folder's files over your alpha.1 folder: the zip has nouserfolder, so your saves and settings stay. With a read-only install folder, everything is already in%APPDATA%\Metroid Prime. If you also play Odran's port, your settings and save states are there too, but the memory card is still inuser\USA\Card A, so copyuseranyway. - Quest: install the new APK over alpha.1, with SideQuest or
adb install -r PrimedGun-v2.0.0-alpha.2-Quest.apk. Do not uninstall alpha.1 first. alpha.2 is signed with the same key and has a higher version number, so it replaces alpha.1 and keeps your memory card, settings, save states and disc copy. - Shaders: alpha.2 clears alpha.1's shader cache once, at its first start, so expect shader stutter again for a while. On PC, if you go back to alpha.1 with the same user folder, delete
pipeline_cache.dbfrom it (the About tab shows which folder) before you start alpha.1, and again before you start alpha.2. - Movement settings that alpha.1 saved but did not use (for example from a v1 transfer) now take effect.

- Other revisions (for example v1.02), PAL and Japanese discs are rejected with a message.
- About 92 MB of disk space, plus shader caches and saves.
Quest
- Tested on Quest 3. Quest 2, Quest 3S and Quest Pro can install it but are untested. Quest 2 performance is unknown.
The zip holds one folder,PrimedGun-v2.0.0-alpha.2-Windows-x64. PrimedGun v2.0.0-alpha.1
This is an early alpha, published as a pre-release. Expect bugs and missing features, and read the known issues before you start. You need your own Metroid Prime disc image (USA, v1.00). No game data is included.

Install and play on Quest
- Turn on developer mode for your headset. Install
PrimedGun-v2.0.0-alpha.1-Quest.apkwith SideQuest, or runadb install PrimedGun-v2.0.0-alpha.1-Quest.apk. The app has its own package (org.primedgun.v2), so it installs next to the Dolphin-based PrimedGun app and does not replace it. - Connect the headset to your PC with a USB cable, put it on and allow access to data when it asks. Then copy your disc image to it, for example into
Download. - Open PrimedGun v2 from your Library, under Unknown Sources. It opens on the launcher panel, with the same tabs as on PC.
- On the Setup tab, tap Select Game... and pick your image. The app checks it and copies it into its own folder as
disc.iso. When it says "... is ready. Press Play.", you can delete the original.- Select Game has not been confirmed on a headset yet. If it fails, open the app once so its folder exists, then copy your image to
/sdcard/Android/data/org.primedgun.v2/files/yourself and name itdisc.iso, whatever its format (the game reads the format from the file itself). From a PC over USB that isAndroid\data\org.primedgun.v2\files. You can also runadb push <your image> /sdcard/Android/data/org.primedgun.v2/files/disc.iso.
- Select Game has not been confirmed on a headset yet. If it fails, open the app once so its folder exists, then copy your image to
- Optional, coming from PrimedGun v1: first use Export User Data in v1 to save a zip into
Download(the file picker cannot open the v1 app's own folder), or copy your v1 memory card intoDownloadfrom a PC. Then tap Transfer PrimedGun Memory Card / Settings and pick the zip, the memory card (.raw,.gcpor.gci) or yourPrimedGun.ini. The game imports the card the next time you press Play, and shows a report. Imported settings appear as unsaved changes: tap Save Settings to keep them (Play also saves). Save states are not transferred. - Tap Play. The game opens in VR, and the panel locks until it closes. Click the right stick to set your height, and the left stick for the VR menu.
- To quit, click EXIT GAME twice in the VR menu, press the Meta button and choose Quit, or tap Stop on the panel. The game saves its settings as it exits.
About the signing key. This alpha is signed with a development key. If a later release switches to a permanent key, you will have to uninstall this version before you install it. Uninstalling deletes /sdcard/Android/data/org.primedgun.v2/files: your memory card (USA/Card A), settings (port_settings.ini), save states and disc copy. Copy that folder to your PC before you uninstall. If the install fails with INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE, you have a build signed with another key: back up the folder, uninstall that build, then install this one.
