Dolphin for PS4 v03.33

Install

  • On v03.08 or later: say Yes when Dolphin offers the update, then Restart Now. Your games, saves and settings are kept.
  • If the update doesn't start on v03.10 (or you're on v03.06 or older): install DolphinPS4-v03.33.pkg by hand with your package installer, on top of the old version. v03.10's updater could fail to replace an earlier update's folder; from v03.33 on that's fixed.
  • On v03.03: don't update from inside that version (its updater uninstalls the app); install the package by hand.

New since v03.10

Games

  • More file types: .wad (WiiWare, Virtual Console, channels), .dol / .elf (homebrew) and .tgc (GameCube demo discs).
  • Set as Default ISO: press Triangle on a game → Set as Default ISO. Dolphin then starts that game straight away; hold L1 while it starts to get the menu instead.
  • Spider-Man 2 runs at 30 FPS most of the time on a base PS4 (Fast speed features are now its default).
  • Bully: in its heaviest scenes the automatic CPU clock may go down to 40%.

Controllers

  • Motion controls: tilt, swing and shake the DualShock 4 to move the Wii Remote (Settings → System → Motion Controls, on by default). Needs an official DualShock 4 — many third-party controllers have no motion sensors.
  • PS Move (experimental): Settings → System → Wii Remote Controller → Auto makes a PS Move that's on when a Wii game starts the Wii Remote. Not tested on hardware yet — logs welcome.
  • Controller in Wii Games: Wii Remote, GameCube Controller or Both (default). Use GameCube Controller for Wii games that support one (Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl…).
  • Wii settings only touch Wii games; a GameCube game's own settings no longer list them.
  • Controls repair themselves: if a forced power-off emptied the controller files (no input in games), Dolphin restores the default controls. The files are now written safely so it can't happen again.
  • Multiplayer check: what Dolphin finds (signed-in users, controllers) is written to boot-trace.log. Each controller must be signed in as a different PS4 user.

Save states

  • No more crash when saving in busy scenes: states no longer include the texture cache (a race in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! made a 148 MB state), and Dolphin borrows extra memory when its own runs out.
  • Wii save states load: loading one always failed before and sent you back to the menu.

Wii

  • Wii SD card: Settings → System → Wii SD Card, with folder sync (/data/DolphinPS4/User/Load/WiiSDSync), write access and size.

Menus and languages

  • 13 languages: English, Español, Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Português, Nederlands, Polski, Türkçe, Русский, 日本語, 中文, 한국어. Pick one at the first start or in Settings → System → Language; games use it too where they have it.
  • New start-up animation: the dolphin leaps in through stardust.

Speed and stability

  • No more stutter after every update: compiled shaders are kept across updates.
  • Faster memory lookups in games that use the GameCube's memory mapping (Spider-Man 2, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One…).
  • Consoles that block the fast CPU emulator (seen on some PS4 Pros) fall back to the slower one with a notice instead of crashing.
  • The updater cleans up after itself: old update folders are now really deleted.
