CoreVideo Pro beta 2026-10-16 — live Sources and Inspect video

Choose a tag to compare

@iamfatness iamfatness released this 16 Oct 10:40
079e79c

This beta improves live video in the Sources table and Inspect preview.

  • Moves thumbnail and Inspect GPU presentation onto persistent render workers so slow Present calls no longer block the UI.
  • Prevents source monitors from starving later rows, uses accurate 30 Hz monitor pacing, and stops hidden monitors from presenting.
  • Keeps source selection, shared-texture aliases, resize and source-generation changes synchronized.
  • Restores direct source patching from the Sources table without opening Inspect.

Built from main commit 079e79caaa51e30a550be060def774e1fdc8d047 (#917 and #918).

Validation includes the bundled runtime, changing-pixel GPU checks, a ten-source synthetic native workspace, camera-installation and old-install retirement regressions, and hosted CI on main. Finite synthetic checks do not establish sustained physical-display or live-meeting zero-miss performance. Please test Sources thumbnails, Inspect, selection changes and source reconnects in a rehearsal before production use.

Windows x64 preview; unsigned. Setup requests administrator approval to register the webcam. Settings and recordings are preserved. First launch downloads the verified media runtime when needed.

CoreVideo Pro beta 2026-10-15 — Sources and operator UIUX

Choose a tag to compare

@iamfatness iamfatness released this 15 Oct 23:32
26350c0

CoreVideo Pro beta built from main commit 26350c0aee6676be3914a696c30964564b5380ff.

This beta brings the approved UI/UX batch into the app:

  • Sources now opens as a dense table with an optional selected-input inspector. Observed format/FPS, signal state, meters, MV and ISO remain available; search, categories and saved secondary columns help scan the inputs.
  • Grade can be opened from the table or inspector and retains the full native editor, scopes, LUTs and drawn ROI workflow.
  • Scene starters use stable named inputs for Solo, Two people and Screen + presenter, preserving Program and custom routes.
  • Operator editing includes clearer slider units and Reset, keyboard curve editing, remembered offline source names and grouped lower-third controls with reachable Preview/Apply/Cancel actions.

Compare actual compiled controls with the approved design at https://corevideo.io/reviews/sources-table/native/.

Validation: main CI and CodeQL passed on the exact release commit. All 1,619 production native tests passed (zero failures). The clean self-contained Release publish passed the runtime probe and 30 compiled operator UI checks; 12 native-backed grade checks also passed. Package inventory, pinned Node runtime, payload hashes, and installer build are checked before publication. Camera ownership/path tests passed 22 cases; release/camera contract tests passed 24 cases.

This is an unsigned Windows x64 prerelease for owner review. Installation requires administrator consent for webcam registration. The existing installed app, shortcuts, settings and webcam ownership were not changed while preparing this release. Full installed upgrade, physical/high-DPI UI review and live-meeting bake remain open; no zero-miss acceptance is claimed. The separate Program/camera performance PRs are not included.

The optional Node packaging fixture is stale (#915); its failed fixture run is not counted as passing validation. The actual named release archive is checked with the production package validator.

Merged UI/UX PRs: #912, #913, #914.

CoreVideo Pro beta: webcam registration recovery

Choose a tag to compare

@iamfatness iamfatness released this 14 Oct 13:27
e1d355a

This beta adds recovery for webcam registration failures after an installation or registration repair.

  • Webcam output retries registration failures on its dedicated worker, at most once per second. Once registration is repaired, output can recover without restarting CoreVideo or toggling webcam off/on.
  • Ownership checks open a fresh user-registry handle and retain the existing protection against overwriting unknown registrations.
  • A registration refusal is detected before resetting the shared video buffer. Turning webcam output off cancels pending retries.
  • Additional diagnostics identify disagreement between the predefined and freshly opened user-registry mappings.

Validation: Release native and self-contained WinUI builds, runtime-startup probe, package payload checks, focused camera tests, and a controlled real-camera recovery comparison. The candidate recovered in the same process after repair and an OS receiver read 300 samples at 1920x1080, 60/1.

The full local native suite reported 1,599 passes and one previously documented test-mode fixture failure (#869, D3DProgramBuffer.MultiviewProgramPixelsAdvanceAtFixedConsumerPhases). The failure is retained; the suite is not reported as fully green. The unchanged fixture passed separately with COREVIDEO_ISOLATE_MONITORS=1 across all 16 depth/path/phase combinations, with 100 post-startup image changes and zero repeats/gaps per combination on this reference GPU. The installer refusal path was verified without changing the existing camera owner or shortcut; a full desktop upgrade has not been exercised for this beta.

The original false ownership warning's initiating cause remains under investigation in #857. This recovery validation is not proof of pixel continuity, zero misses or a long Zoom meeting soak. The installer is an unsigned Windows x64 beta; Windows may request administrator approval for webcam registration. Installation on the owner's desktop is not part of this publication.

CoreVideo Pro beta 2026-10-14 — stability bundle

Choose a tag to compare

@iamfatness iamfatness released this 14 Oct 23:01
4366d5b

CoreVideo stability bundle from main 4366d5b.

Changes

  • Sources thumbnails use per-source GPU surfaces with explicit identity and lifetime, avoiding multiview atlas shifts and mixed-source crops.
  • Audio monitor lifecycle fences stale starts after newer mute, retarget or shutdown intent.
  • Resource staging and grade queues are bounded; grade event assembly runs outside the render lock. Valid queue pressure reports a distinct overload response.
  • GPU fixture modes and handshake/recovery fixtures are hardened without weakening production delivery requirements.
  • Webcam qualification verifies the serving Frame Server process and camera DLL identity alongside received pixels.

Validation

  • Exact-commit hosted CI and CodeQL passed; 1,619 Release native hardware tests and 4,127 managed tests passed.
  • Runtime/package validation passed (859 package files, including the build manifest); all six uploaded asset digests match local SHA-256 values.
  • Real installed upgrade passed: all 858 manifest-listed payload hashes matched, settings were preserved, stable shortcuts and machine/user webcam ownership point to this beta, and the old beta was retired.
  • Windows Frame Server retained the previous loaded camera DLL after registration changed. That initial trial is retained as INVALID for candidate identity. After a controlled Frame Server refresh, the new DLL was verified in the serving process; the 75-second OS-camera reference included 45 measured seconds / 2,701 samples with zero invalid, repeated, missing or reordered frame identities. Native buffer loss counters did not increase. This is a bounded synthetic reference, not a full-show or physical display guarantee.
  • Installed default WASAPI monitoring passed enable, volume-zero/unmute, disable/reenable and settled-off control/admission checks, with zero monitor queue drops. One backend ring-dry event remains recorded; physical playback continuity is unverified.
  • A read-only API sample of the installed real Zoom meeting covered 59.625 seconds, with eight producing 1080p feeds and a 1440p screen source observed during the run. Program delivered 3,570 frames and webcam publication advanced 3,570, with no new buffer underruns/deadline misses/sequence gaps or camera replacement/exceptions. The Program display reader nevertheless refused and skipped three copies. This is NOT an all-output zero-miss pass; startup baseline losses and all failed/invalid trials remain retained.

Known acceptance limits

  • Program display-copy refusals/skips are tracked in #904 / #517; #898 contains related fixture evidence without a proven common cause. Counts alone do not identify the failing GPU operation or prove displayed pixels.
  • Monitor underrun reporting can fall to zero while disabled and resurface an old event after reenable (#903). Intentional mute and counter freshness need explicit semantics.
  • Sources page visual review remains pending; validation used API control without desktop input. Native source-identity/pixel/lease tests passed.
  • Sustained real-meeting/fleet delivery, physical audio continuity, full installer lifecycle and the original false webcam-ownership warning cause remain open.

Unsigned Windows x64 beta. No resolution/quality reduction or buffer increase was used to conceal losses.

CoreVideo Pro beta: complete Scene Builder and crash repairs

Choose a tag to compare

CoreVideo Pro beta from 14bf499, merged to main in c360aef. Verified main has the same source tree as this installed build.

Includes the complete Scene Builder and Tiles controls, live Preview framing/appearance updates, Program-monitor handoff and off-lock status work, and installer retirement fixes. Repairs two Scene Builder crashes: recursive color hydration/native item clearing (#889), then stale Pivot selection index on page entry (#891).

Validation: installed predecessor payload/runtime/21 operator checks passed, but real meeting validation caught a second page-entry crash. This replacement passed the compiled operator probe including collapsed-page reentry and a live test meeting with saved Tiles selection, returning to Studio and reopening Scene Builder. Installed validation passed: all 858 payload files match; the previous version was removed; one install folder/uninstall entry remains; both stable shortcuts and machine/user webcam registration point to this beta. Installed 21-check operator probe and saved-Tiles live page entry passed. Webcam reports live 1920x1080. The short installed sample had zero Program deadline misses, underruns and sequence gaps; destination presentation is unverified. All hosted CI and CodeQL checks passed on this exact application commit. PR #892 is merged; no open PRs remain. The initial local operator probe timed out loading Settings before reaching Scene Builder; its retained recheck and the installed probe passed.

Known rough edges: Zoom resolution-ramp black flashes (#582), Sources thumbnails shifting after input removal/reorder (#882), and incomplete destination/receiver performance evidence. Native test results remain 1,596 passes and one monitor-mode fixture failure (#869); explicit isolation phase sweep passed. No sustained zero-miss or receiver/A/V bake qualification. Preview edits require Take to reach Program.

Windows x64 prerelease, unsigned. Manifest keeps framePerformanceAccepted=false. Settings and recordings are preserved. Administrator consent is required for webcam registration.

CoreVideo Pro beta — 2026-10-11

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@iamfatness iamfatness released this 11 Oct 23:24
491e3f7

Windows beta from main 491e3f7285e8286cff97a85f43a89b9df0063c17.

Changes:

  • Moves CPU video-source preparation and optional monitor work away from the Program render deadline, and improves recovery when a late frame reaches the delivery queue.
  • Fixes idle recording Stop inventing a permanent stopping/finalizing state and blocking subsequent encoder use.
  • Consolidates installed UI/UX acceptance procedures for grading/ROI, lower thirds, shared controls, Sources, scenes, Health and webcam overlays.

Known limitations:
This beta is not zero-miss-qualified. The retained 30-minute reference test recorded 201 Program underruns and 132 overflows. Its independent webcam receiver recorded 242 repeated and 173 missing identities. There was no SDK crash or disconnect in that run. Producer timing and separate camera read contention remain under investigation in #802 and #517. Passing build/package checks does not waive those live-delivery failures.

Unsigned Windows x64 prerelease. Settings and recordings are retained by the installer. Setup requests administrator approval for webcam registration and, when needed, the Microsoft VC runtime.

Included changes: #858, #860 and #862.

Validation:

  • Exact main commit passed hosted CI and CodeQL.
  • Archive manifests, self-contained WinUI startup, real installer/uninstaller safety checks, installed file hashes and media runtime checks passed. Preferences were preserved.
  • Webcam registration points to this beta. A synthetic 1080p60 OS camera reference measured 2,101 frames over 35 seconds after warmup: zero repeated, missing, invalid or reordered identities, with an 18.487 ms maximum interval. This short reference does not qualify real meeting load, display presentation, decoded A/V or other hardware.
  • Local native tests: 1,568 passed and two existing Framer attribution/identity failures remain tracked in #839. Those failures are retained, not waived.

Installation note: this desktop's Windows Camera Frame Server retained an older camera DLL in memory after registration changed. The new registration and installed file hashes are verified; the short OS receiver pass does not prove the new DLL was loaded. Close camera consumers or restart Windows before qualification of the new camera module.

Installed testing also identified #864: the multiview Program cell can update slowly while Preview and source cells remain smooth. Program delivery and webcam publication counters continued without underruns in the observed window; display handoff attribution and actual presentation continuity remain under investigation.

CoreVideo Pro Beta — draw-first scope ROI

Choose a tag to compare

@iamfatness iamfatness released this 10 Oct 12:28
abb97fb

Draw scope regions directly over a source using rectangle or circle tools. Move and resize selections, press Escape to cancel, or Clear to return to full-frame analysis. Exact numeric overrides remain available in collapsed Precision settings.

Circle regions exclude outside pixels from histogram, waveform and vectorscope. Source grades and production output remain full-frame. This beta also fixes valid drawn ROI measurements being rejected after coordinate rounding and preserves gesture geometry while preview results are pending.

Includes the advanced grading, webcam framer/LUFS overlay, operator adjustment controls, and lower-third/setup improvements already merged to main.

Built from main abb97fb89fd75527a1c2e425f72e0135877592d8 (PR #855). Windows x64 prerelease, with checksums and build/installer manifests attached. Use the Setup installer so the virtual camera is registered; preserve your existing settings.

Zero missed delivery slots remains an unsatisfied performance requirement under #825/#517. The owner reported smooth video during a multi-hour run, but measured delivery misses remain open. This ROI release does not claim to resolve them. Real-meeting and physical-display qualification should continue separately from the isolated native/UI checks.

CoreVideo Pro Beta — recording queues and accurate start

Choose a tag to compare

@iamfatness iamfatness released this 08 Oct 21:31
51d6281

Recording now shows Preparing while Program and the selected ISO writers initialize. It shows Recording only after every required file has committed video and configured audio, using a shared capture boundary and a timer based on actual capture start.

Program and ISO files have independent bounded write queues, so a short blocked file write can drain without holding the live dispatcher. The recording buffer defaults to 10 frames and is configurable from 4–30 for the next take. Health and support evidence separate startup and steady-state queue losses.

This beta also includes the render preparation recovery fixes and delivery diagnostics merged since the October 5 beta.

Validation: 1,533 production native tests; 2,348 media-core, 84 control and 1,606 UI tests; bridge smoke; packaged and installed startup probes; installed-byte and shortcut checks. Two- and eight-source baselines and eight-source 100 ms Program/ISO stalls passed with zero recording file-queue loss. Hosted CI and CodeQL passed on release commit 51d6281.

Tonight's real-meeting bake is the long-run acceptance test. Check Program/Preview/multiview/virtual camera while recording Program and the selected ISOs, then Stop and check the finalized files for sync and continuity. Preparing before Recording is expected; no media before the shared capture boundary is promised.

Parent #814 acceptance remains open for that bake. Full eight-source 60 fps presentation is not established by the queue tests. Thumbnail mutex contention (#832) and the initiating encoder-export stall remain separate unresolved work.

Main CI initially hit a trace-file sharing race in the app-exit test (#834). The original failure is retained; the unchanged-commit retry passed before publication. Production CI, CodeQL, and a local repeat of all six app-exit tests passed.

CoreVideo Pro Beta — SDK share crash repair

Choose a tag to compare

@iamfatness iamfatness released this 06 Oct 01:48
77bac0c

Corrective Windows beta for the SDK helper crash during the October 5 live meeting test (#790), merged in PR #791.

Fixes:

  • Prevents screen-share renderer teardown from reentering a locked CoreVideo share mutex. SDK calls run outside the state mutex; admitted frame callbacks drain before teardown, transitional renderer callbacks are gated, and share-controller changes are reconciled after ownership is committed.
  • Preserves share targets across renderer restart and prevents duplicate retirement during share stop, switch, failed subscribe and detach.
  • Reports helper exit or lost IPC as disconnected instead of leaving the meeting apparently connected. Clears active-capture state and stale media work. Rejoin starts a fresh SDK helper. Recoverable media warnings still preserve a live meeting.

Evidence:
The new share-end regression fails against the previous implementation with 'resource deadlock would occur' and passes with this repair. The production Release build passed 74 focused native checks, including synchronous callbacks, callbacks on a worker thread, 100 repeated share cycles, target/frame resumption, helper loss and normal shutdown. Three process-loss/rejoin cycles with the production core and synthetic helper passed while capture was active. All 2,305 local MediaCore tests passed. Exact-main CI, CodeQL, bundled-runtime startup, package validation and all uploaded/downloaded SHA256 checks are recorded in release-validation.json.

Scope:
The captured dump identifies a CoreVideo callback reentrancy defect. This release does not establish that earlier Zoom-wide freezes had the same cause. Real-SDK installed share stop/start/switch and a replacement long live meeting run remain acceptance requirements on #790. Synthetic and regression results do not certify long-show or uninterrupted 1080p60 performance; framePerformanceAccepted remains false. Existing camera/fleet and broader output-quality acceptance remain open.

Install with the Setup EXE. This beta is unsigned; virtual-camera setup requires administrator elevation. Experimental GPU capture/monitor isolation and camera retry remain off by default.

CoreVideo Pro Beta — October 5, 2026

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@iamfatness iamfatness released this 06 Oct 00:14
f76cb14

Superseded by beta-2026-10-05-77bac0c, which fixes the confirmed SDK helper crash during screen-share teardown (#790). Use the corrective beta for further testing.

This Windows beta includes merged PRs #787, #788 and #789.

Changes:

  • Keeps Take, Record, Stream and Virtual Camera controls at stable widths and separates output status into a reserved row. Details remains available without changing the transport layout.
  • Shows destination-specific degraded-stream feed cadence using the core's applied divisor and configured Program frame rate. Active pressure still warns when the current core preserves full feed cadence; missing cadence is unknown. Feed cadence is not a receiver-FPS measurement.
  • Gives a failed streaming destination priority over a degradation warning in stream health.
  • Includes the implementation plan for reporting, settings/automation and operator usability. Those remaining items are not claimed complete by this beta.

Validation scope:
Production Release native build, clean self-contained shell publish and bundled-runtime startup probe; all 2,305 local MediaCore tests; focused production native checks; exact-main CI and CodeQL; archive payload and uploaded/downloaded SHA256 checks. Detailed results are in release-validation.json.

The earlier layout candidate was visually inspected at restored and maximized window sizes, and its Details control was accessible. Controlled installed output slowdown/recovery, long/changing failure-state visual checks, broader display scaling and combined long-show acceptance remain outstanding. #507 and #610 stay open for their remaining acceptance. The separate Zoom-wide stall investigation and camera/fleet qualification are not closed by this release. This beta does not certify uninterrupted 1080p60 delivery.

Install with the Setup EXE. The beta is unsigned; camera setup requires administrator elevation. Unattended /S installs must already be elevated. Experimental GPU capture/monitor isolation and camera retry remain off by default.
