Spool 2.0 gives collaborating agents a shared task board, reliable ownership, and durable handoff context for Telephone.
What changed
- One live board shared across a repository's Git worktrees, with explicit
spool syncfor durable Git history. - Atomic
nextandclaim, expiring leases, renewal, and tokens that prevent stale workers from overwriting reclaimed work. - Queues that honor prerequisites, cycle checks, durable notes, and handoffs that return Telephone notification payloads.
- JSON on every command, compact lists, search and limits, owned-work filters, and
spool primeonboarding. - Immutable events, deterministic replay, crash-safe process locking, and current-state reads. The TUI displays active claims and uses guarded mutations.
Upgrading from 1.x
This is a major release because the claim contract and worktree storage model have changed. Existing event history remains readable; the board format marker upgrades to 0.5.0.
- Upgrade all participating workers to compatible 2.0 clients.
- Give each session a unique
SPOOL_AGENTorTELEPHONE_ADDR, retain the token returned byclaim/next, and renew before the default 15-minute lease expires. - Run
spool syncbefore committing task history. Claims stay local; independent clones do not share atomic claims. - Spool records handoffs and returns a notification payload. Send it with Telephone when notification is wanted.
Install
cargo install spool-cli --version 2.0.0 --locked
spool primeFor the optional TUI:
cargo install spool-ui --version 2.0.0 --lockedSource builds require Rust 1.88+. Shared worktree boards require Git 2.31+. Prebuilt CLI and TUI archives for Linux x86_64 and macOS Intel/Apple Silicon are attached with SHA-256 checksums.
