📦 TextSim UI Prototype v0.1.0
⚠️ This is a pre-release and a UI-only prototype. The C++ backend, including all cryptographic and networking logic, is not integrated in this version. The primary goal of this release is to showcase and gather feedback on the new user interface.
About this Release
This release marks the first major milestone in transitioning TextSim from a terminal-based application to a full-featured, user-friendly desktop application built with a modern tech stack.
The focus here is entirely on the user experience, providing a complete, interactive, and polished interface that will serve as the foundation for the secure messaging features to come.
✨ Features Included
- Modern Desktop Interface: A complete UI built with React, TypeScript, and Tauri, providing a fast and responsive native experience.
- Intuitive Navigation: A collapsible sidebar allows for easy access to all sections of the application.
- Interactive Views: Fully designed mockups for all core functionalities:
- Chat View: A clean and modern chat interface demonstrating message bubbles, send status indicators, and input controls.
- Server Status: A polished dashboard card to start/stop the server and visualize its current state (Online/Offline).
- System Logs: An interactive log viewer with color-coded levels.
- User & Connection Settings: Intuitive forms for managing user profiles, RSA keys, and network port configurations.
- How-to-Use Manual: An integrated guide explaining how to set up and use the application.
- PDF Report Generation: A feature to export the system logs into a formatted PDF document directly from the UI, designed to be an educational tool.
✅ How to Use
Download the appropriate installer for your operating system (just .msi for Windows for now) from the assets below. Install and run the application to explore the user interface. All data presented within the app is for demonstration purposes only.
🚀 What's Next
The next major milestone is the full integration of the C++ backend. This will involve:
- Connecting the UI controls to the C++
Servicesvia Tauri's sidecar model. - Establishing a WebSocket connection for real-time log and message updates.
- Enabling the encrypted messaging and key exchange (handshake).
💬 Feedback
Feedback is highly appreciated! If you find any issues with the UI or have suggestions for improvement, please open an Issue in this repository.
TextSim-v0.1.1-TerminalTestVersion
📦 TextSim v0.1.1-TerminalTestVersion
TextSim is a secure terminal-based chat system developed in C++17. It allows users to act as a client or a server on a local or remote network, using RSA encryption to protect message exchange and authentication. It is ideal for students, developers, and enthusiasts who want to learn more about networking, security, and C++ programming.
⚠️ Warning: This version does not yet have data persistence, and its security will be improved in future releases.
🚀 Features
- 🔐 RSA Encryption with SHA-256 validation
- 🧩 Server Mode: listens for connections, exchanges keys, and receives messages
- 🔌 Client Mode: connects to servers, performs a secure handshake, and sends messages
- 🧠 Automatic or manual RSA key generation
- 🎨 An interactive menu interface with ANSI styling in the terminal
- ⚙️ Configuration of ports, username, and connection status
📚 Technologies Used
- C++17 with CMake
- GMP – for large number operations (RSA)
- httplib – for HTTP communication
- nlohmann::json – for JSON data serialization
- Styling via ANSI Escape Codes (VT100)
