Tap an element, get the file and line

get_inspector_selection now resolves the component you tapped to an absolute source path and line number, so an agent can open the exact code instead of searching for it.

Element: RCTText
Path: App > HomeScreen > SearchView > TrendingTopics > Text > RCTText
Source: /Users/you/app/src/screens/HomeScreen/SearchView/TrendingTopics/TrendingTopics.tsx:20:7

Resolved from the React fiber's _debugStack via Metro's /symbolicate endpoint, so it works on React 19, where _debugSource was removed. Frames inside node_modules are filtered out, so you land on your own code rather than a library wrapper.

Selection history

While RN's Element Inspector is on, a background poller records each selection into a 100-entry circular buffer — including taps you make yourself, without asking the agent first.

get_inspector_selection(history: true)

Set EXECBRO_DISABLE_SELECTION_POLL=1 to turn the poller off. The poller's per-tick probe does no measurement; the measuring pass runs only when a selection actually changes.

Also

  • inspect_at_point returns source too; pass source: false to skip resolution in tight loops.
  • Screenshot, tap, get_screen_state, get_screen_layout and find_components now cross-reference get_inspector_selection so it is discoverable from where you already are.
  • No new tools — only optional parameters on existing ones.

Notes

RN's Element Inspector is untouched: this reads fiber props only, with no module patching, so the manual inspect workflow behaves exactly as before. Requires dev mode and a reachable Metro; when Metro is unavailable the response carries sourceUnavailable and identity plus style are still returned.
