v2.0.1
Prepares Modifus SMTP for the WordPress.org plugin directory. No changes to your settings, logs or how emails are sent.
Changed
- Requires WordPress 6.2 or later. (The previous "5.6" was incorrect; the plugin already needed 5.9.)
- Database queries use prepared table and column names.
- All request input is unslashed and sanitized.
- The print/PDF export page loads its styles and script as files instead of inline code.
- Coding standards fixes: the official Plugin Check now reports no errors or warnings (down from 112).
Upgrading
- From 2.0.0: replace the plugin with this version. Nothing else to do.
- From WizePress SMTP: install and activate Modifus SMTP, then deactivate WizePress SMTP. Your settings and logs move over automatically.
Download the attached
modifus-smtp-2.0.1.zip, not the "Source code" archives.
Full details in CHANGELOG.md.
v2.0.0
WizePress SMTP is now Modifus SMTP. Same plugin, new name, and a big round of fixes.
Upgrading from WizePress SMTP
WordPress sees Modifus SMTP as a new plugin, so it won't update automatically. To switch without losing anything:
- Download
modifus-smtp-2.0.0.zipbelow and install it (Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin). - Activate Modifus SMTP.
- Deactivate WizePress SMTP. Your SMTP settings and email logs move over automatically.
- Delete WizePress SMTP.
Download the attached
modifus-smtp-2.0.0.zip, not the "Source code" archives. Those unpack to a folder with the wrong name.
Fixed
- Failed emails are logged correctly. They were saved with no recipient, subject or body, and borrowed the content of the last successful email.
- Log times are correct. They were shifted by your site's timezone offset twice.
- Logging no longer silently stops after updates. Sites installed on v1.0 never received the newer database columns.
- The SMTP password is no longer visible in the settings page source.
- Test and resent emails are logged with their real subject and SMTP error.
- The log shows the From address that was actually used.
- CSV exports can't carry spreadsheet formulas.
New
- SMTP without a login, for relays and local mail servers.
- From Email, From Name and Force From settings.
- Encrypted password storage, or keep it out of the database with the
MODIFUS_SMTP_PASSWORDconstant in wp-config.php. - Automatic log cleanup after a number of days you choose.
- Works with WordPress's privacy tools to export or erase a person's email logs.
- Real Excel (.xlsx) export.
- Faster month filtering on large logs.
- Ready for translation.
Good to know
- SMTP is now used whenever a host is set. Before, it also needed a username and password.
- New installs default to port 587 with TLS.
- If the secret keys in wp-config.php change, re-enter the SMTP password. The settings page will tell you.
