iOS uploaded images still show not in cloud icon

The bug

In my iPhone some images continue to show the crossed out cloud icon that I think means this image is not yet uploaded to the server.
But when I check the server the images are already there.
This seems like a small issue but I never know if my uploads are failing or if everything is actual backed up.

I was going to open a new issue for this same thing, but I'll just add my info here:

Now on 2.0.0 both server and iOS app, but the issue started for me on 1.144.1. I did get a new phone around the same time, an iPhone 17 Pro with iOS 26. I am unsure of which transition actually started the issue.

I'm having the same issue as the OP here... but to add to what they posted, my app is not hashing anything. I'd imagine that's why the app can't determine what's been uploaded, because 0 assets are hashed. @TobiasDax can you check your sync status menu to see if new files are being hashed?

Anyway, there are no server errors during upload, and the app logs simply report "Starting hashing of assets" and then immediately reports "Hashing took - 0ms" - if I manually trigger hashing, it does the same thing. All app permissions seem correct. I have also tried clearing cache, resetting DB, logging out, logging back in, removing/reinstalling app, and various combinations of all of those, with the same result.

@nwish, do you have an album selected for backup? Can you share the mobile app logs, the screenshot of sync status page, and the backup page?

@alextran1502 Log file attached. It doesn't seem very long, but I did set logging to finest, and troubleshooting on. To answer your question, I don't actually have any albums selected. I don't use automatic sync, I only manually upload assets after an event or trip, or when I'm clearing out my phone.

@nwish That explains it, the app only hashes items that are in the selected album. If you don't have an album chosen, none of the local assets will be hashed, so it cannot match the indicator with the assets on the server

Gotcha, makes sense, but previous versions were hashing assets, and I have never set up album syncing.

Okay you know what? I think I figured it out! I simply selected the "Recents" album for backup, but kept "Enable Backup" disabled, and now it's hashing. I will report if there are any issues with this arrangement!

Sorry, back with an update... the issue I have now is that the main photo grid in the app is now blending assets only on my phone with assets on the server, which I do not like. I want the Immich app to only show server assets, and I want to be able to upload what I want without syncing. That's how it worked before.

At this point, this is expected behavior: only albums selected for backup get hashed and so, local assets that have been manually uploaded do not get the cloud checkmark icon. This is something we'd like to improve in the future (and there is an open feature request), but this is not a bug.
