Release Intent
v0.1-alpha is the first public alpha release surface for Keepsake, with a
deliberately conservative support claim.
Primary validated lane today:
- macOS
- REAPER
- VST2
Experimental / lightly proven:
- Windows
- Linux
- VST3
- AU v2
- 32-bit paths
Experimental means implementation exists and CI may be green, but the release
should not present these lanes as equally proven until the validation matrix
backs them.

Release Highlights
- CLAP wrapper that exposes discovered legacy plugins as distinct CLAP entries
- out-of-process bridge with crash containment and configurable isolation
- hardened bridge lifecycle around bad stdout IPC, stuck init, and oversized
shared-memory allocation failures - working real-host REAPER smoke lane on macOS
- cross-platform CI covering macOS, Linux, and Windows builds

This is the current intended artifact list. Final publication should not broaden
it beyond the validated support envelope.

Install Surface
macOS
- Unpack the release archive.
- Copy
keepsake.clapinto:~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/CLAP/- or
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/CLAP/
- Rescan CLAP plugins in the host.
Notes:
- Helper binaries are expected inside the bundle.
- If the alpha ships unsigned or non-notarized, release notes must include the
exact Gatekeeper workaround. Current alpha posture should assume this note is
required until signing/notarization is settled. - Replace flow from a local build or earlier alpha drop:
- remove or overwrite the old
keepsake.clap - copy the new bundle in its place
- rescan CLAP plugins in the host
- remove or overwrite the old
Windows
- Unpack the release archive.
- Copy the packaged
keepsake.clapand adjacentkeepsake-bridge.exeinto a
standard CLAP plugin location. - Rescan plugins in the host.
Notes:
- Current CLAP plugin locations:
%COMMONPROGRAMFILES%\\CLAP\\%LOCALAPPDATA%\\Programs\\Common\\CLAP\\
- Keep the helper binary adjacent to the packaged
keepsake.clap. - Treat the Windows artifact as experimental for
v0.1-alpha. - Current publication posture: ship only as an explicitly experimental
attachment, not as part of the supported claim.
Linux
- Unpack the release archive.
- Copy the packaged
keepsake.clapand adjacentkeepsake-bridgeinto a
standard CLAP plugin location. - Rescan plugins in the host.
Notes:
- Current CLAP plugin locations:
~/.clap//usr/lib/clap/
- Keep the helper binary adjacent to the packaged
keepsake.clap. - Treat the Linux artifact as experimental for
v0.1-alpha. - Current publication posture: ship only as an explicitly experimental
attachment, not as part of the supported claim.
Known Issues Summary
Link directly to:
Short public summary:
- strongest support is macOS + REAPER + VST2
- host cache behavior can affect rescans
- macOS live editor is the supported UI posture; preview is diagnostic-only
- broader platform/format support is still experimental
- CI green on Windows/Linux does not yet equal full release support proof
Release Notes Body
Keepsake v0.1-alpha is the first public alpha for the CLAP-based legacy
plugin bridge. It exposes discovered legacy plugins as named CLAP entries and
runs them out of process for crash isolation.
This alpha is intentionally conservative in what it claims. The strongest
current validation lane is macOS + REAPER + VST2. Windows, Linux, VST3, AU v2,
and 32-bit paths remain experimental until the release validation matrix proves
them strongly enough to widen support claims.
Highlights:
- out-of-process bridge with shared/per-binary/per-instance isolation
- hardened scan and bridge lifecycle
- real-host REAPER smoke tooling
- stable macOS live-editor posture for Serum, APC, and Khords
- green CI on macOS, Linux, and Windows
