Devices

There is no supported-models list in this adapter, and that is deliberate. It asks every device what it can do and builds the object tree from the answer. A model nobody ever tested works, as long as it speaks one of the three protocols.

Do I need this page?

Read on if you want to know what your device class can do, or why a datapoint you expected is missing.

What each class brings

Class Examples Protocols What you get
AV receiver RX-V, RX-A, RX-S, TSR, HTR, CX-A YNCA, from ~2015 also MusicCast the full set: zones, surround, HDMI, scenes, tuner, media
Stereo receiver / amplifier R-N, WXA, WXC, A-S, NP, XDA MusicCast, older ones YNCA no surround and no HDMI — those datapoints simply do not appear
Wireless speaker MusicCast 20/50, WX, ISX MusicCast playback, multiroom, a tuner only where the model has one (e.g. ISX); one zone
Soundbar YSP, YAS, ATS, SR-B MusicCast playback, sound programs; one zone
CD receiver / network player CRX, MCR, CD-NT MusicCast playback including the CD drive
Receiver before ~2010 RX-V from about 2008 XML power, volume, input, sound program, what is playing, the menu of the network sources; an older dialect with less detail

Why your neighbour's receiver has other datapoints

Two receivers of the same age can differ, because the adapter creates only what the device confirms. A few examples that regularly cause questions:

  • Zones. Zone 2, 3 and 4 only appear if the device answers for them. Zone 4 is the small one: power, input, sleep, its scenes and the player block for what it plays — no volume and no mute, on any model.
  • Inputs. The dropdown contains the list your receiver declares, not a catalogue of everything Yamaha ever shipped. Sockets you renamed on the device or in the MusicCast app show up under your name — a later rename too, at the next connection; the value written underneath stays the protocol value, so scripts keep working. The device's own name follows the app the same way.
  • Sound programs. Same principle — the list comes from the device.
  • Tuner. DAB, FM, AM and HD Radio are separate abilities. A device without DAB has no tuner.dab folder.

Multi-zone devices

Each zone gets its own folder under multiroom.zoneN with its own power, volume, input and player block. What is device-wide — party mode, master power, the MusicCast Link group — sits directly in multiroom, labelled "(all zones)".

Help us support your device better

If a datapoint is missing that your device clearly has, open an issue with:

  1. the exact model name and the adapter version,
  2. the contents of <device>.info.transports.*,
  3. what the device shows on its own display or app for the thing that is missing.

That is usually enough to tell whether the device declares the ability and the adapter misreads it, or whether the device never mentions it at all.
