• Changed: a release found more than an hour ago is refreshed in the background whenever the Plugins screen is opened, so the newest release is offered rather than an intermediate one.

Holiday Mode for HivePress 1.8.10

Changed: the shared icon library is updated to the version that fixed two faults found in Account Menu Enhancer 3.4.0 — a repeater row inheriting its neighbour's icon on save, and a re-picked icon drawing the old glyph enlarged. Neither could happen on this extension's own screens, and nothing here changes; it is released so that every combination of extensions carries the corrected copy, whichever one a site happens to load it from.

• Added - "Plans That Block Restoring". If you use the "Membership Required to Restore" check, you can now choose exactly which membership plans it applies to, so a lapsed plan you have not chosen never stands in a vendor's way.
• Changed - the "Membership Required to Restore" check now does nothing until you choose at least one plan. If you had it ticked, open Restoring Listings and choose your plans to switch it back on.
• Changed - icons are now drawn directly into the page instead of being loaded as a font. A visitor's browser no longer downloads roughly 230 KB of stylesheet and font files just to show a few small pictures, and the icons can no longer clash with the icon font HivePress loads itself. Your colour and size settings work exactly as before.
• Added - every icon in the free Font Awesome 7 set is now available, brand icons included, which is around 800 more than before. Type a few letters to find one rather than scrolling a long list, and each result still shows you the icon itself.
• Changed - the settings screen loads a great deal faster, because the icon choices are fetched as you search instead of every one of them being written into the page.

• Changed - the settings screen now keeps its quick links in view as you scroll, and adds a Save button and a back-to-top button that follow you down the page. The quick links, the Save button and the back-to-top button now look and sit exactly the same in every one of these extensions, so moving between two of their settings tabs no longer means hunting for the same control in a different place.
• Changed - the hover tooltips on the settings screen are wider, so a two-sentence explanation reads as a few short lines rather than a tall narrow ribbon of text.

• Housekeeping only - the icon library added in 1.8.0 shipped without its outline face, so an outline icon would have drawn filled in. Nothing you can pick here was affected, because every icon this plugin offers is a solid or a brand one. The library is shared with the other extensions in this family, some of which do use the outline face, so it is now complete.

• Added - a %username% token for the away notice and banner wording. Write something like "%username% is taking a break right now" and each vendor's own display name appears in place of the token. It works in the site-wide wording you set and in the message a vendor writes for themselves.
• Added - icon choices now include the Font Awesome 6 and 7 names and the brand icons, so you can use a logo where you used to be limited to the older set.
• Added - Icon Size and Icon Weight settings for the banner and the profile notice, so the icon can be made larger or heavier without any custom CSS. Leave them alone and the icons look exactly as they did.
• Changed - the away banner can no longer be dismissed. It is the only thing on screen saying your listings are hidden, so closing it left vendors with nothing to tell them why their listings had disappeared.
• Changed - the settings page opens with links that jump to each section, the sections are separated, and the longer explanations have been cut to the points that matter. Those explanations now wrap at a readable width instead of running the full width of a wide screen.
• Changed - the icon library is now included with the plugin instead of being loaded from a third-party server, which is faster and keeps every request on your own site. Your chosen icon and settings are unaffected.

• Fixed - ending a holiday no longer fills the site with false activity pop-ups. With Social Proof for HivePress active, restoring a vendor's listings was read as that vendor posting every one of them again, so a vendor with twenty listings replaced the whole genuine activity feed with twenty "just posted a new listing" pop-ups stamped "just now". Restoring is now as quiet in the activity feed as it already was in the badge and package counts.
• Fixed - deleting the plugin now also clears the update check's own leftovers and cancels its background update check.

New

• Who Can Use Holiday Mode - decide who is offered the switch: vendors plus anyone who has written a listing (how it has always worked, and what your site keeps after updating), vendors only, or roles you tick yourself. Administrators always see it.
• Statuses to Hide - published, pending, private and scheduled listings no longer have to be hidden as a set. All four stay ticked after updating. Restoring always honours the status recorded on each listing when it was hidden, so narrowing this list can never strand listings that were already away.

Changed

• "Membership Required to Restore" is now yours to switch on, and it starts off. Holding a vendor's listings back over a lapsed HivePress Membership used to happen whether you had asked for it or not. It is now a tick box under HivePress -> Settings -> Holiday Mode -> Restoring Listings, and it arrives unticked on every site, including every site updating from an earlier version. If you want the old behaviour, tick that box and it works exactly as it did.

  This does loosen things: a vendor with a lapsed membership who could not end their holiday before can now. The reason is that HivePress does not re-gate listings that are already published. When a membership lapses it emails the vendor and closes the membership record, and the submission limit turns away someone submitting or renewing a listing, but nothing hides or re-checks the listings a vendor already has out. A lapsed member who never touched holiday mode kept every listing visible, so refusing to end the holiday for the vendor beside them took nothing back from anybody. It only left the one who used the feature worse off.

• Listings that expire while a vendor is away are now counted separately from the ones that come back. They have always stayed hidden, correctly, because a holiday must never buy a listing extra visible time, but nothing anywhere said so.

Fixed

• A vendor can no longer be trapped on holiday by an unrelated subscription. The switch-off used to be refused unless the vendor's WooCommerce Subscription was active, and there is no way to tell a subscription that governs listings from one that pays for a newsletter, so a vendor who had ever bought any subscription and let it lapse could never end their holiday. That check has been removed.
• A listing removed while a vendor was away can no longer come back on its own. If an administrator sent a listing to the bin during a holiday and later took it back out, the vendor's next holiday could put it live again with nobody having decided that.
• The readme no longer contradicts the plugin. Several passages still described the membership gate as unconditional.

• Three new hooks so Notifications for HivePress can confirm holiday mode going on and off, and warn about listings that stayed hidden: holiday_mode_for_hivepress/started, /ended and /enforced.
• Listings that expire while a vendor is away are now counted separately from the ones that come back. They have always stayed hidden, correctly, because holiday mode must never buy a listing extra time, but nothing anywhere said so and vendors returned quietly short of listings.

Fixed

• Checking for updates no longer holds up an admin page. The check ran while WordPress was building the Plugins screen, so on a site with several of these extensions one page load made one request to GitHub after another and could sit there for many seconds, once, before behaving normally again for hours. The check now runs in the background moments later. Pressing Check for updates still asks GitHub straight away, because you are waiting for that answer.

Fixed

• Checking for updates no longer reports "Could not reach GitHub" when nothing is wrong. GitHub allows one server only a limited number of anonymous update checks each hour, and that allowance is shared by every plugin on your site and, on shared hosting, by every other site on the same server. Running out of it is ordinary, but it was reported as though your site could not reach GitHub at all. Update checks now read the release from github.com, which sets no such limit, so the message no longer appears. If the limit is ever reached by another route, the notice now says so plainly instead of blaming your connection.
• A failed update check no longer hides an update that is genuinely waiting. The last successful answer is kept until a later check succeeds, so a pending update stays on the Plugins screen instead of vanishing for an hour.
• The plugin's internal version number had fallen behind the one on the Plugins screen, so the routine that runs once after each update was comparing against the wrong number. Both now agree.

Nothing else changes, and nothing on your site was ever at risk: a failed check only meant WordPress was not offered the update.
