This major update brings a complete identity transformation, shifting from "Material Explorer" to a more powerful, integrated experience. We’ve overhauled core navigation, expanded archive management, and unlocked full system-level control.
Please uninstall the previous version you have as we have rebranded the application ID too.
New Features
Unified Identity: Hello, Overseer
- Complete Rebrand: The app is now officially named Overseer.
- Namespace Migration: Under-the-hood refactoring to
com.overseer.explorerfor a more professional project structure. - Modernized Branding: Refined UI labels and iconography across the entire app.
Integrated ZIP Explorer
- Native Browsing: Navigate into ZIP and other archives as if they were regular folders. No more floating dialogs!
- In-Archive Editing: Open and edit text files directly within an archive. Overseer handles the repacking for you.
- Archive Management: Delete individual files or folders inside ZIPs seamlessly.
- Deep Navigation: Full breadcrumb support for virtual paths (e.g.,
backup.zip > assets > textures).
Full Root Power
- Superuser Access: Fully functional root-powered Move, Copy, Delete, and Create operations for rooted devices.
- Intelligent Filtering: On unrooted devices, sensitive system folders are hidden for a cleaner view, while common accessible root paths remain explorable.
- Discovery Fallback: Enhanced logic to ensure the root directory (
/) always shows common system mounts, even when the OS restricts standard listing.
UI & UX Improvements
- Dark Mode Icon Fixes: Overhauled the monochrome category colors to ensure perfect contrast when toggling between Light and Dark modes.
Integration
- Activity Aliases: Exposed the Material Editor and Archive Browser to the Android system.
- Open With...: You can now choose Overseer to view/edit text files or browse archives directly from other apps (like Gmail or third-party managers).
Under the Hood
- NIO Attributes: Switched to Java NIO for high-performance file attribute fetching (Accessed/Changed times).
- Multi-Hash Calculator: Expanded checksum utility to support CRC32, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512.
- R8 Build Fix: Resolved a critical conflict with
XmlPullParserthat was blocking release builds. - Relative Time: Implemented human-readable "time ago" formatting for all file lists.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue where navigation would stay "stuck" on the second pane after disabling dual-pane mode.
- Fixed the rename button which was incorrectly triggering the file details dialog.
- Resolved empty root views on certain unrooted Android versions.
