First release of Tab Dedup, a Chrome extension (Manifest V3) that finds duplicate open tabs across all windows and lets you choose which ones to close. It's the sibling of Bookmark Dedup.

⚠️ Pre-release: the logic is unit-tested, but the extension hasn't been tried in a real browser yet. Please report anything odd.

Features

  • Toolbar badge showing how many duplicate tabs are open.
  • Popup (click the icon or Alt+Shift+D). Duplicates are grouped with window label and active / pinned / playing indicators. Click a title to switch to that tab.
  • Normalized or Exact URL matching.
  • Smart default keep: active tab in this window, then pinned, then active, then most recently used. Close N others per group, or Close all duplicates at once.
  • Undo restores tabs through Chrome's session history, so back/forward history comes back too. It keeps working after the popup closes, until the browser restarts.
  • Permissions: tabs, sessions, storage, favicon, with no host access.

Install

  1. Download tab-dedup-0.1.0.zip below and extract it.
  2. Open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked, and select the extracted folder.
