Every term this project uses in a specific way. Where a word carries more weight than its everyday meaning, that is noted. Longer explanations are in Concepts.
| Term | Meaning here |
|---|---|
| Alias | A token defined as a reference to another, written {color.primitive.red.800}. The exports resolve aliases for you and keep the dependency visible. |
| Anatomy part | A named piece of a component — a button's root, icon, loading glyph, label. Token maps and the anatomy inspector are keyed by part. |
| APG | The WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices pattern a custom widget follows. Each component's aria block names its pattern. |
| Approved | Adopted through an accepted decision. Not the same as released, and not implied by a version number. |
| Blocked | An eligibility action: do not consume. Covers primitives, heritage-only values, deprecated roles and anything in a proposed profile. |
| Brief |
exports/components/<id>.brief.txt — one component's contract as plain text, for a small context budget. |
| Build | One deployment of the site, made from one revision, and disclosing which. |
| Checkpoint | A recorded source copy in the release catalogue. Not automatically a release, and it approves nothing. |
| Component | One reusable interface part with a specified contract: variants, states, token map, contrast pairs, anatomy, keyboard, ARIA. 67 entries have official implementations in v1.1.0. |
| Composed specimen | Several components assembled — settings panel, administrative form, filterable table, i3 window frame. |
| Contrast ratio | The measured relationship between two resolved sRGB colours. Never rounded into a pass. |
| Coverage ledger | Source facts: specified, demonstrated, test implemented. Not execution results. |
| Decision (D-nnn) | A numbered entry in spec/decisions.md. proposed, accepted, rejected or superseded; only the owner changes a status. |
| Density |
compact or comfortable. Changes control heights, row heights, padding, icon size and gaps. Never colour. |
| Deviation | Something the target could not express as specified, recorded with a kind: unsupported, substituted, omitted or host-rule. |
| Demonstrated | A maintained example renders every declared variant. Not evidence of testing. |
| Digest | The sha256 of one exported file, listed in exports/digests.json. Used to prove that everything came from one revision. |
| Diff (Figma) | The list of proposed additions and changes a dry-run returns. |
| Dry-run | A read-only preview that mutates nothing. |
| DTCG | The Design Tokens Community Group format the token files use, revision 2025.10. |
| Eligibility | What you are allowed to do with a token: use, use-and-report, or blocked. Distinct from status. |
| Evidence record | A structured statement of what was tested, in which environment, with what outcome, and where the run or protocol lives. |
| Family | One of nine component groups: foundations, actions, forms-basic, forms-advanced, navigation, display, feedback, developer, composed. |
| Fixture | A stress case a component must survive — long labels, 320px, 200% zoom, RTL, i18n, reduced motion, forced colours, touch. |
| Forced colours | The OS high-contrast mode. Rings become Highlight; real borders survive, imitation ones do not. |
| Foundations | The non-colour tokens: spacing, type scale, borders, radii, focus geometry, motion, density, layout, breakpoints, icons, stacking. |
| Heritage | Historical-only. Preserved exactly, including values that fail the contrast floor. Not eligible for new work. |
| Integration kind | What the receiving project is: css-vars, vuetify, tailwind, jetbrains-icls, gtk-css, terminal-16, other. |
| Known affected | In a release comparison: a declared dependency or contract changed. Not an observed regression. |
| Lock file |
theme.lock.json — the committed record of which theme revision, profile, exports and components an integration used, plus its deviations. |
| Mapped / inherited / unsupported / out of scope / not implemented | The five port classifications. Each role in the declared profile is in exactly one of them. |
| Normative | Binding. The tokens, the specification, the component contracts and the exports generated from them. The website is not normative. |
| Not run | No completed check exists. Not a failure, and not a pass. |
| Observed | A value taken from the preserved original implementation. |
| Pinned | Tied to one exact revision — a release tag or a full commit — rather than a moving branch. |
| Port | An adaptation of the theme to another application or format, with a manifest, a mapping, artifacts and evidence. |
| Primitive | A raw palette value, color.primitive.*. Exposed for inspection; blocked for consumption. |
| Profile | A named composition of token files: default (approved), heritage-ansi (heritage), extended (proposed). |
| Proposed | Awaiting the owner's decision. A proposed profile is preview-only; a proposed role in the default profile is use-and-report. |
| Receipt | The Figma bridge's private ownership record of the variables it owns and their recorded values. Required for every later apply or rollback. |
| Recipe | A standalone downloadable package for one component: scoped tokens, foundation, component CSS and reference markup. |
| Reduced motion |
prefers-reduced-motion: reduce. Every duration becomes 0.01ms; nothing slides, spins or shimmers. |
| Revision | A release tag or a full 40-character commit. A branch name is never a revision. |
| Role | A semantic token: a value with a documented job and scope. The contract you consume. |
| Rollback | Undoing the last supported change, using the current receipt. |
| Specified | The written specification validates. Says nothing about rendering or testing. |
| Specimen | A rendered sample shown for inspection. |
| Stale | Earlier evidence no longer establishes a pass for the current source or artifact. The recorded outcome is kept; the claim is not current. |
| State | A condition a component can be in: default, hover, focus-visible, active, disabled, loading, selected, invalid, read-only, busy. |
| State matrix | The rendered grid of every declared state combination, including selected + focus-visible and invalid + focus-visible. Rendering coverage only. |
| Status | Where a token's value came from and how settled it is: observed, approved, proposed, deprecated. |
| Task kit | A pinned package of the contracts needed for one named implementation task. |
| Test implemented | A browser test exists. Not that it ran. Not that it passed. |
| Tested | A compatibility alias for testImplemented, with its original file-existence meaning. Never a pass. |
| Token | A named design value. |
| Use-and-report | An eligibility action: usable in the approved default profile, but its pending decision IDs must be disclosed. Read the pinned usage index for the applicable roles and decisions. |
| Variant | A supported version of a component — a button's primary, secondary, tertiary, destructive. |
| Verified | Reserved for this repository's evidence, backed by a real import with matching evidence and a current digest. Consumers say implemented instead. |
| Waiver | A recorded exemption for a declared contrast pair, valid only for decorative graphics that are never the sole boundary of a control. |
| Workbench | The site's live component inspection tool: variants, states, viewports, comparison frames, anatomy, contrast and motion. |

| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Package mode | Import an installed pinned runtime; a kit supplies selected contracts/examples and guidance |
| Copy mode | Incorporate complete component files, including all runtime/style dependencies and notices |
| Mapping mode | Apply canonical roles to supported host keys; not an automatically generated native port |
| Custom Element | A registered j3w1-* browser element; maintained native children supply its markup semantics |
| Enhancement root | An explicit mounted element whose existing controls use enhanceControls(root)
|
| Package lock | Package-manager dependency identity; separate from canonical theme.lock.json
|
| Kit manifest |
kit.json from the package CLI; requested IDs, mode/framework and dependency metadata |

This handbook explains consumption of v1.1.0. The pinned repository's tokens, specification, implementation contracts and evidence remain authoritative. The live site may advance; keep your application's pin explicit. Preserve the material's license notices.
