Creating an ontology
We have not seen a full forest ontology covering all the categories in GFDC. We have same taxonomies with alphabethical listings of terms (in multilingual thesauri) and concepts with definitions (often monolingual). The definitions may provide additional information for creating relationships between the concepts.
How to move from simple taxonomies towards an ontology and further to knowledge graphs?
If you do not yet know how to do this, here is a prompt you could try with your favourite AI tool - you should get instructions how to get going (if you have improvements or a better one, please let me know):
- You are also an expert terminologist
- How would you create a simple hierarchical ontology from an alphabethical list of forestry terms or concepts in traditional vocabularies?
- How do you select the top concepts / classes and then find the subclasses?
- On which theories is this selection based?
- Create a list of tasks which need to be done in order to accomplish this process.
- List the reasons for committing each phase. Give the sources to the instructions you provide.
I'm going to try this.
