Neat NAS v1.0.5

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Sep 16:31

Neat NAS 1.0.5

Drag and drop on Windows, and a toolbar that never cuts anything off.

What's new

  • Drag files into Explorer on Windows. Drag files or whole folders from Neat NAS onto an Explorer window or the desktop. Explorer copies them straight from the NAS with its usual progress window; nothing is downloaded first.
  • Nothing in the toolbar is cut off. On Mac and Windows, in all ten languages, button labels and the search hint are shown in full or left out. In a narrow window the search becomes a magnifier button (or press ⌘F / Ctrl+F) that opens where the folder name was. On Windows, the close button is whole again.
  • The upload overlay only shows for files. Dragging text or links over the window no longer offers to upload.

Copies of 1.0.0 to 1.0.4 offer this update in Settings. Coming from 1.0.0 or 1.0.1, macOS asks once more for keychain access after the update: choose Always Allow.

macOS 11+ (Apple Silicon and Intel) Neat NAS_1.0.5_universal.dmg Open it and drag Neat NAS to Applications. Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
macOS 11+ (Apple Silicon and Intel) Neat NAS_1.0.5_universal-mac.zip The same app without the disk image: unzip, move to Applications.
Windows 10/11 (x64) Neat NAS_1.0.5_x64-setup.exe Installs per user and adds WebView2 when it is missing.
Windows 10/11 (x64) Neat NAS_1.0.5_x64-win.zip The same app without an installer: unzip and run Neat NAS.exe. Needs WebView2, which Windows 11 and current Windows 10 include.

First launch on Windows: the app is not code-signed on Windows yet. If Windows says it protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.

SHA256SUMS.txt lists the checksums of the four files. latest.json and the .sig files are what the in-app updater uses; you can ignore them.

Neat NAS 1.0.4

Folders now remember where you were.

What's new

  • Back where you left off. Back, Forward, Up, Backspace and the folders in the path bar return the list to the scroll position it had, with the folder you came out of selected, as in Finder and Explorer.
  • New folders open at the top. A folder no longer opens part-way down because the previous list was scrolled.
  • Arrow keys stay in view. Moving the selection up with the arrow keys no longer tucks the row under the column headers.

Copies of 1.0.0 to 1.0.3 offer this update in Settings. Coming from 1.0.0 or 1.0.1, macOS asks once more for keychain access after the update: choose Always Allow.

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Sep 13:04

Neat NAS 1.0.2

The macOS app is now signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.

What's new

  • Opens like any other Mac app. No more trip to System Settings on first launch: macOS only confirms once that you want to open an app downloaded from the internet.
  • No keychain prompt after future updates. macOS now recognises every new version as the same app. It asks one last time after this update, so choose Always Allow.

Windows works exactly as before. Copies of 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 offer this update in Settings.

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Sep 12:24

Neat NAS 1.0.1

A macOS fix, plus zip downloads for both platforms.

What's new

  • macOS: the app is now code-signed. 1.0.0 was unsigned, and Apple silicon Macs can report such apps as "damaged" when they come from the internet. 1.0.1 is ad-hoc signed, so macOS shows its usual first-launch check instead (see below).
  • Zip downloads. Every release now also ships the app as a plain .zip for macOS and Windows, plus SHA256SUMS.txt with the checksums of all four files.

Windows works exactly as in 1.0.0. Copies of 1.0.0 offer this update in Settings; on a Mac, macOS then asks once whether Neat NAS may use its saved password in the keychain, so choose Always Allow.

Neat NAS 1.0.0

@jason-jm jason-jm released this 19 Sep 17:47

Neat NAS 1.0.0

Remember your NAS once. Open it forever. The first release of the lightest NAS file browser for Mac and Windows.

Highlights

  • Opens straight into your files. Add a NAS once; every launch connects and shows the last folder you were in, with the password fetched from the macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager.
  • Finds your NAS on the network. Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS, Samba on a Raspberry Pi: anything announcing SMB shows up in the add dialog.
  • Quick Look for everything. Photos, video, audio, PDF and text stream straight from the NAS. Space opens it, arrows move through the folder.
  • Files both ways. Download and upload files or whole folders, drag files out into Finder, drop files in to upload. Transfers resume where they stopped, even across restarts.
  • Instant photo grids. Thumbnails use the previews cameras embed in every photo, so RAW and HEIC folders need only the file headers.
  • Light and dark, ten languages. English, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 日本語, 한국어, Deutsch, Español, Français, Português, Русский.
  • Tiny and native. A pure-Rust SMB 2/3 client and the system web view via Tauri 2: about 10 MB to download, no Electron, no mounting, no admin rights.
  • Signed automatic updates. New versions appear in Settings and install in one click.

Known limitations

  • Drag-out to Explorer is not available on Windows yet; use Download.
  • Video preview depends on the system web view's codecs (MKV containers may not play on macOS).
  • The macOS build is ad-hoc signed and the Windows installer unsigned, hence the one-time warnings above.
