WonderBox now behaves like a proper menu bar utility: close the window and it leaves the Dock, keeping only the menu bar panel.

What's new

  • Leaves the Dock when the window closes. With the menu bar shortcut on, closing the main window turns WonderBox into a menu-bar-only app — no idle Dock icon. Reopening it (Finder, Spotlight, or "Open Main Window" in the menu bar panel) brings the Dock icon back.
  • Quit prompt when the menu bar shortcut is off. Closing the window with no menu bar shortcut would leave no way back, so WonderBox asks whether to turn it on or quit now. A "Don't ask again" checkbox and a matching Settings › Always Available › Ask before quitting toggle control the prompt.
  • Reliable window at launch. Fixed a case where the app could start with a Dock icon but no window until the icon was clicked.

Single main window: Cmd+N no longer opens a duplicate.

Install

Requires macOS 14 or newer. The zip contains a universal (Apple Silicon + Intel) WonderBox.app.

The build is ad-hoc signed and not notarized, so Gatekeeper blocks the first launch. Right-click → Open and confirm under System Settings › Privacy & Security, or run:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/WonderBox.app

Fan control and memory optimization install a small root helper on first use (one administrator prompt). Everything runs locally; nothing is uploaded.

First public release of WonderBox — a native macOS system toolkit that tells you the truth about your Mac.

Highlights

  • Memory optimization that actually shrinks Compressed memory. A root helper sends the kernel-level memory-pressure broadcast macOS itself uses, so every running app releases its caches; the report shows before/after per category and names the apps that responded.
  • Per-app memory attribution with helper processes rolled into their host, an estimate of how much of each app sits in the compressor or swap, and Quit / Force Quit in the same row.
  • Cleanup that finds tens of gigabytes: package-manager caches (npm, pnpm, uv, Cargo, Go, Gradle, Maven, CocoaPods…), Chromium/Electron web caches, sandboxed container caches, simulator and DeviceSupport files, app leftovers, device backups. Every deletion passes a per-category root whitelist; anything that isn't a rebuildable cache goes to the Trash.
  • Uninstaller, Disk Analyzer, fan control (AppleSMC), Keep Awake, menu bar panel, light/dark themes and four accent colors.
  • English and Simplified Chinese, following the system language or set per app in Settings.
