Backup and export, plus corrections to how spending and income are counted. This release puts a verified safety net under your data before the next upgrade changes the database structure.

Added

  • Export your data from Settings. Download a backup of the database, export everything, or export your transactions to CSV.
  • Automatic snapshot before an upgrade. Whenever a new version needs to change the database structure, Tally first takes a snapshot and verifies it can be read back. If that snapshot cannot be produced and verified, Tally refuses to start rather than change your data unprotected.
  • Snapshots are rotated automatically so the backup folder cannot grow without bound, and any partial file left behind by an interrupted run is cleaned up on the next start.
  • Backup and restore guide in the documentation, covering how to restore a snapshot by hand.

Fixed

  • The twelve-month trend chart no longer disagrees with the headline spend figure. For any month containing a debt payment, the chart and the number printed above it were counting different things.
  • Spending and income are now worked out from an explicit list of what counts, rather than a list of what to leave out. The old approach meant a newly added transaction type would silently be counted as ordinary spending or income until every calculation was updated by hand.
  • The concurrent-import test is no longer unreliable and has been returned to the test suite, so a red run once again means a real problem.

Notes

  • Your trend chart will change if you record debt payments. Those months will read higher than before. The previous figures were too low, because a payment against a debt was being counted as spending. Headline income and spend figures are unchanged.
  • Known limitation. Income and spending are still separated by whether an amount is positive or negative rather than by its type, so a refund still reads as income instead of reducing spending. Fixing this properly requires the import pipeline to label the rows it creates first, and is tracked for a later release.
  • Upgrade is safe and in-place. No manual steps, and the new snapshot runs automatically.
