v2.1.0 - packaging: desktop extension + signed installer
Packaging & distribution release. No server logic changes from v2.0.0 - same 9 tools, same async chat pattern.
What's new
- Claude Desktop Extension (.mcpb) - one-click install; prompts for your AnythingLLM Base URL + API key. manifest_version 0.3, Node server, config stored by Claude Desktop.
- Signed Windows installer (AnythingLLM-MCP-Setup-2.1.0.exe) - Authenticode-signed with an SSL.com OV code-signing cert (CN=John B Owens II), so it installs without a SmartScreen block. Writes the config-file method into claude_desktop_config.json, preserving any existing MCP servers.
- README now documents all three install methods (extension, manual config, signed installer) and the code-signing reality.
Install (pick one)
- A - Extension (recommended): download anythingllm-mcp-2.1.0.mcpb, open it with Claude Desktop, enter Base URL + API key, restart.
- B - Manual config: add the anythingllm server block to claude_desktop_config.json (see README).
- C - Signed installer: run AnythingLLM-MCP-Setup-2.1.0.exe, enter Base URL + API key when prompted.
Requires Node >= 18 on PATH (global fetch).
v2.0.0 - async chat + workspace management
Why: Long answers from a slow local model (Qwen 32B, ~4-5 tok/s) exceed the non-configurable ~60s MCP tool-call timeout in Claude Desktop / Claude Code (anthropics/claude-code #43791, #22542), so the stock AnythingLLM server's synchronous chat always failed on the big model. This server fixes that by never blocking a call.
Async chat: ask_workspace returns a job_id instantly; get_answer polls it until done. No single call is long, so the timeout never fires.
Workspace management over REST: list_workspaces, get_workspace, update_workspace, create_workspace, delete_workspace, list_documents, update_embeddings.
Design: zero dependencies (Node stdlib only) for resilience -- no MCP SDK to drift or be wiped on reinstall. Requires Node >= 18.
Full replacement for the stock anythingllm MCP server. See README and CHANGELOG for details.
Downloads
- AnythingLLM-MCP-Setup-2.0.0.exe - signed Windows installer (Authenticode, SSL.com OV cert); runs without a SmartScreen "unknown publisher" warning. Easiest install.
- anythingllm-mcp-2.0.0.mcpb - Claude Desktop extension bundle (one-click). Unsigned (mcpb signing needs a local exportable key, which cloud/HSM signers don't provide) - expect a one-time "community extension" prompt.
- Or clone the repo and use the manual
claude_desktop_config.jsonmethod. Use only one method at a time.
